If you want a comfy strap for a square g-shock, just get the strap from the GW-5000. It's a much, much softer and better strap than any of the other 5xxx watches and it fits all of them. the combi-bracelet is also great.

How do you go about balancing your love of a certain aesthetic of watch vs. brand stuff?

I mean as much as I don't care for a lot of microbrands, a lot of them do make very nice LOOKING throwback designs, which are far easier to get your hands on than say an actual vintage Rolex/Blaupanc etc.

I mean those watches are for the most part going to be terrible re-sale wise, and since they're all using off the shelf movements you're basically trusting small companies without the infrastructure/support of bigger ones and paying for the look/feel.
