But for me it's more than watch, it's a trophy to remind me of an accomplishment that I still can't really believe I pulled it off, so I bought myself something expensive. You buy a rolex, lease a BMW, have mortgage on a $500,000 home, and have very little in liquid assets. You think you're above me because you project wealth that you don't have. The movement to power the jumping discs are extremely power hungry and requires a lot of torque, way more torque than what a quartz date change uses. And keep in mind, the Zeitwerk flips every minute. They use a remontoire system to build it all up, that's something a quartz will never have.

I just picked up my first GS off one of the forums. It is the grand seiko hi-beat limited edition(sbgh051). Only 35 of these pieces were made for the US market. This watch did not disappoint when I received it! I immediately put it on this barenia calf leather strap I had made off Etsy. Not sure if it works with this dial? Also wondering how the watch looks on a small wrist? I measure a 6.25 in circumference. I wish the lugs on this were a bit more curved to it would wrap around the wrist a bit better. Also any suggestions on what straps would work with this piece? I have too many watches on metal and id like to have a dressy piece on leather.

Both are gorgeous, but the 114270 is more versatile and imo the ultimate utilitarian watch.

The 3130 movement, and every component of the watch in general, is purposefully design to outlive you. It's simplicity and ease of serviceability is genius.

If you opt for it, try and find one from the z series. They were the last models from the assembly line and are rock solid watches. Mine keeps +/- 0-1 spd easily during daily wear.

By introduced I mean that’s when it started popping up, you can still find 2005-06 without rehaut engravings but after that it’s all engraved. For the parachuting hairspring here’s something:

“The biggest change in the family came in 2010 when, in Baselworld, Rolex introduced the Ref. 214270. The case became bigger, with 3mm more (now 39mm), which led many Rolex devotees to state that the model lost its classic proportions. The Oyster bracelet was now solid all around (including the end-links) and the movement was the Calibre 3132, an in-house self-winding mechanical movement featuring a bigger base plate, Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers, offering greater resistance to shocks and to extreme conditions.”

Did a little research and looks like you can have it replaced when you get it serviced.

One of the greatest things about the 3130 movement is that basically all of its parts are individually replaceable. One of the reasons watchmakers love it.

This can be changed very easily and there are numerous options out there, from Seiko shit, to aftermarket shit, to plain shit.

>I bet the whole thing is a scratch magnet
Nothing stopping you making the surfaces brushed with sandpaper so they don't pick up scratches so easily/noticeably. The crystal however is very much a scratch magnet no matter what, I don't think anyone makes a mineral or sapphire Vostok crystal due to the fact that the crystal compression is part of its water resistance.

Not really sure why you're putting so much emphasis on the case back design, the only real advantage is that you wont tear up a o-ring while removing it.
