What's the deal with most fragrances with oud in the name smelling nothing at all like they contain oud? TF's Oud Wood does not smell like oud at all, for example.

Am I autistic for this being my daily frag even though it literally says night in the name? It doesn't strike me as a particularly eveningy scent but who knows. Currenly my only other option for anything close to a daytime frag is RL Big Pony 1, but I find it a bit boring and it's got awful performance.

Real talk: a lot of people want to buy an Oud fragrance because they know Oud is expensive and fancy, but don’t actually like what Oud smells like. As such, a lot of houses make “Oud” fragrances that don’t smell like Oud to sell to those retards.

It's a normal bottle, usually full, sometimes 90+ percent full, intended for display in a store. It may or may not (depending on brand) come with a cap. Always comes in a plain box, either white or brown, with no fancy labeling, and marked Not For Sale. Some bottles feature printing such as "sample" or basic note lists. They aren't intended for you to purchase, but that doesn't stop gray market resellers. The liquid inside a tester bottle is identical to that in a retail bottle.

It’s fine. Marketing in itself is an autistic practice, wear what you like. Only problem I see with using this as a daily driver is the performance issues post-reformulation. It already had soft projection and average longevity to begin with, and from what I understand the current batches are weaker. If you’re using it as a work/school frag, you might need to take the bottle with you or carry a decant for reapplication in order to get a full day out of it.

Got my Alexandria Fragrances dupe of Fahrenheit on Saturday and I’ve been wearing it for a few days. First thing I notice is the performance is very strange and many people online say it has to “macerate” for two weeks before its truly strong. It starts out light when you spray it and gets stronger the longer its on your skin. This makes me skeptical and makes me think they’re just diluting arab oils and selling those to spray.

The smell itself is incredible... it has this extreme electrifying ozonic quality to it that’s completely unique to Fahrenheit that the current version doesn’t have. Imagine a sweltering hot day, insects and cicadas noise is deafening, you smell the fresh cut grass and all of nature. It’s a kind of depressing scent actually because nature can’t even smell like this anymore because of all the pollution and mass extinction happening everywhere, no doubt ironically contributed to by the fragrance industry.

Well, I mean he’s right that most fragrance reviewers just make shitty clickbaity fluff videos with very little substance, beg for free shit, and hype the same (often mediocre) fragrances over and over again. He’s also right that that sort of shit has dumbed down the fragrance community. That said, he accused Joy Amin of starting drama by posting his thoughts on events/drama in the fragrance community, while doing the exact same fucking thing himself.

He honestly was probably right to call those people out, though leaving out the undisputed king of insubstantial fluff/hype videos, Mr. Jerememe Fragrance, seems a bit odd. The way he did it was stupid and made him seem like a shitty person, though. A lot of the time, how you say something is even more important than what you’re saying. If you can’t communicate your thoughts in an effective way that makes people want to listen to you, it doesn’t really matter how brilliant what you’re trying to say is.

I have the mental image of a dark green forrest on the Atlantic coast. There should be a certain degree of complexity/sophistication to the fragrance. I’m looking for light wooden notes, moss or grass. Maybe a citric topnote.

I was the dude who got the bottle of Sadanne.

Basically, check Slumberhouse’s Instagram and the basenotes forums. When Josh has a batch of a fragrance that will be ready soon, he will announce it. You then email him with the name of the fragrance in question in the subject line. When it’s ready for shipping, he’ll send you an invoice that you pay through PayPal. Once you’ve paid, he’ll ship you your bottle.

No, there is no easier way currently. Supposedly his store will reopen later this year. I assume luckyscent will get stock as well, though I don’t know for sure.

Also keep in mind, he seemingly randomly discontinues frags. The specific one you want may not be available again, unfortunately.

Samples are in boys. Let's talk about it.

>Hermes Terre D'Hermes
Smells much more fresh to me than the citrus most people talk about. Very flash and sharp smelling in a nice way. I agree with the "citrus & gasoline" opinion but I like it. Great for office. Bought a bottle.
>YSL L'Homme
Smells incredible. Probably as feminine as you can get and still be a masculine fragrance. Gf LOVES it. Def going to buy a bottle. Almost floral.
>YSL Kouros
Reminds me of a take on the classic barbershop scent. A copycat is Jermyn St by Taylor of Old Bond. Really does have that slight shaving cream smell.
>Dior Farenheit
Too sweet at first but smells amazing over time. I get why this could smell dated but it's too good to pass up purely on that. Reminds me of summer, laundry, and apples.
>Dior Sauvage
S E X
>Tom Ford Oud Wood
Smells very much like toasted coconut to me. Good but not something I would want often at all. Maybe better for the winter
>Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
This is the worst smelling cologne I've tried so far. Terrible.
>Diptyque Tam Dao
Smells amazing. Similar to L'Homme but if it was only a perfume. Gay.
>Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb
Smells Woody in a nice way. Reminds me of fall.
>Versace Pour Homme
Smells like a heavier version of Sauvage and not in a great way. Club scent probably.
>Polo Blue
Very fresh but still has the same Polo scent. Young attempt at a classic
>Polo (Green)
Classic dad scent to me. Still smells good though. Gotta like the advertising of NO FLORALS AT ALL. Way too heavy for normal wear.

Look up notes for these if you actually want that, this is just first impressions. Happy to argue about any of these. Recommend frags based on this pls.

M8s, compliments are a meme, especially if you live in a big city where strangers don’t talk to each other. The only times you’re likely to get compliments are from coworkers who know you’re the “cologne guy”, or from grills who already like you and will find something to compliment you on anyway. If you wanted to try something a little less common, my go-to scent for a first date is Gucci Pour Homme II. No matter what kind of girl it is they always seem to really like it. And it's subtle enough that even if they don't, it still won't bother them.

>French Lover
Great. Vetiver rounded via cedar, Cedar brightened via green angelica and galbanum. Definitely in the running for summer signature - although it probably shines in spring and fall.

>Angéliques Sous La Pluie
Good. Reminds me of Lalique White but more woody and more sophisticated. Somewhat floral. I'll finish the sample but its not really for me. I think it would be lovely on a female, though definitely unisex.

>Cologne Indelebile
Grape soda. Sweet flowers and citrus. Getting a little better as it dries and the musk comes through. The sweetness smells cheap despite smelling high quality/ well blended over all. Again, I might enjoy it more on a woman.

Whatever you do, don't splash on some stanky thing that you would go clubbing in. Low key, subtle, is the way to go. Display some maturity, like a true adult. Avoid the fukboi meme if you want to impress the dad.

Hey I've been really itching to find this one cologne from forever ago that I got a lot of compliments on, it was a square bottle with a golden cap and the bottle itself was clear with a gold accent and the cologne inside itself was gold it had a logo similar to polo but I don't think it was.
Anyone have any idea what it might be?

I'm wondering if I should just take the Molecule 01 pill. I need a fragrance I can rock in the summer but I dont really like traditional warm weather notes. I'm all about woody fragrances, I like them to be subtle, and I love when they mingle with my natural 'musk,' so in theory, its perfect. I sampled 01 once but it wasnt really enough to get a feel for it.

Im also curious to try 04, I love sandalwood.

Do you think it’s necessary to have sweet fragrances in your collection? The closest I have is Tobacco Vanille, but that’s not sweet in the way I’m thinking. I love the smell of Ultra Male, but I don’t think it suits me, but despite that I keep thinking about how much I’d like to own it. I tend to favour things like Tuscan Leather, Oud Wood, CH Men Prive and Versace Pour Homme so Ultra Male is very different. I don’t know when I’d wear it, but do you think there’s a place for that kind of fragrance if you don’t go clubbing or anything like that?

I would recommend a small bottle of Molecule 01 for a proper test. It is very comforting, soft, pleasant. Traditional frags have been ruined by pajeets.

I have Molecule 04 as well, but hardly use it. I think of the words "sharp" and "sour" when I smell it. A fellow anon wrote:
>If M01 is ethereal pencil shavings, M04 is ethereal sour wood. The javanol "sandalwood" seems like three or four different notes despite being only one scent molecule. You get something that reads as wood, something creamy, something tangy. It's totally cold and robotic in one moment but can read as warm and animalic in the next. And the performance is obscene.

Some great cheapies for under 50$:
>Cold weather:
Salvatore Ferragamo F by Ferragamo Black; Bvlgari Man In Black, Zadig & Voltaire This is Him; Carolina Herrera CH Men/ Privé; Paco Rabanne 1 Million Lucky; CK Obsession, Zara 9.0, Versace Blue Jeans, Versace Dreamer
> Spring
Some of the winter fragrances can still be worn through-out sprig time, it depends on what kind of climate you have. If you'd go for more sprays for the winter, go with less sprays for spring. This is where you can start applying scents with more citruses. Some obvious cheap choices are clones of popular fragrances: Al Haramain L'Aventure (best Aventus clone IMO), Davidoff Cool Water (probably the most popular and easy to find Green Irish Tweed like fragrance. As it gets warmer you can try some of of the blue fragrances: the cheapest one you can get is Coach for Men. Some other choices include: Lacoste L'Homme Intense, Carolina Herrera Chic for Men, Montblanc Individuel, Montblanc Legend and/or Montblanc Legend Spirit.
> Summer
Light, citrus and ozonic fragrances are probably the most common so it won't be too hard to find some cheapies. My personal favorites include: Versace Pour Homme, Bvlgari Aqua Amara, Lalique Encre Noire Sport, CK One, Dunhill Icon, Nautica Voyage, Prada L'Homme (should be easy to find discounted).

Surprisingly enough, in this part of Eastern Europe, most big cities have at least 2 or 3 perfume stores where you can smell designer fragrances (Sephora has all the new hyped designers and Douglas even has some entry level niche like Amouage, Sospiro, Acqua di Parma, Atkinsons etc.; there is even a Notino physical store in our capital). Most of the fragrances are sold online, with a large number of websites that cater to both designer and niche audiences.
