Gotta let them dry down for a few minutes at least. Alcohol based fragrances will be pretty harsh and chemically up front. Could also be that most fragrances are made up of primarily synthetic aroma molecules, some of which are excellent and some of which are what lemon pledge is to actual lemon.

I’ve only ever tried the Aventus clones, but none of them smelled remotely like Aventus. PVI had a nice pineapple opening that dried down to a pet store woodchip smell after 15 minutes. Wasn’t going anosmic either, I had other people smell it and report the same. PV Noir was almost the same but with a bacon smell in the opening. All of them had kind of a weird medicinal bug spray smell to them too. These were all sample sizes, and maybe the batches I got were some kind of weird anomaly, but given the price and my experience with the company I would never buy anything from them.

I know a lot of people that adore this fragrance, but to me it had an unpleasant potpourri vibe to it. Out of the three you listed, D&G is my favorite, and not by a small margin. Never tried BDC, but I have atomizer samples of the other two you named and when compared to them I can see where the comparisons come from but the Sauvage only kinda smells like the drydown of Elysium and Aventus smells a lot more similar to Elysium, but its opening is less citrusy than Elysium. The drydown of Aventus and Elysium are closer than Sauvage but Elysium still smells much better. I havent tried its cologne version though.

I paid 5€ for the Hugo Boss. Smells nice but obviously has a longetivity of 5 minutes.

The Invictus was a gift and when I first smelled it, it was utterly disappointing, because it smelled too aquatic and citric. But after using it for the 3rd or 4th time I started to perceive it as smoother, sweeter and woody. Smells really good now.

Individuel honestly was a blind buy, because I took the Jeremy Fragrance pill. Smells nice. Nothing special to add.

I'm a bit biased because I like incense. Bought this when I went through a bottle of CDG Avignon. Full Incense is a sweeter/warmer/more refined version of Avignon. I'd say it's probably the best incense based frag I've tried (between Cardinal/Avignon and SL Fille en Aiguilles)- smells like church, but it's not overpowering,- the frankincense is well complimented by other notes.

Only downside is that it's linear- really doesn't change much through time

Except most reformulations are not close to 99% the same as the original. It's not always the designer's fault, as the substances get banned can be hard or even impossible to replace. Regardless of the reason, reformulation is a very real problem for fans of certain fragrances. Scents that I wore in High School like CK One, CK Be, and Acqua di Gio were entirely different pre-2000. Some fragrances from that era like Gucci Rush are gone altogether, and though that's sad it might be preferable to seeing a beloved EdT shamefully gutted and passed off as the same product.
