Did you guys know there's a watch available for a fraction of the price that actually has practical use for 2019?
Wearing an old man dive watch isn't fashion, so don't go there. If you're buying a traditional watch, then the only true reasoning is a jewelry piece. A clunky piece of steel looks much worse than an apple watch, FACT.

If your watch isn’t mechanical, and your 5 year service charges don’t cost as much as your watch, then you need to get out.
So what if it loses 15 seconds a day and is innacurate? You don’t buy a watch to tell the time, you buy it because it has a soul. And for the approval and admiration of your fellow man.

Completely inaccurate sensors with data that you cannot rely on for real fitness tracking.

If you're a normie who runs for 10 minutes then curls 5lbs a week at the gym, that Apple Watch isn't giving you any more benefit than a digital Casio.

>Receiving calls/texts when you can't or don't want to have your phone on you

So you're saying that if I have in my pocket at all times and able to reach for it within seconds I have no need for an Apple Watch. Is that it?

Not the guy you’re replying to but I understand the appeal. Fitness tracking, health, etc, etc... To me it would be convenient as a I’m going out for a run/walk watch or for the elderly people in your family because of it’s fall detection and ekg sensor. An Apple watch is basically just a technically advanced digital watch. I’d wear one before I’d wear a quartz or rubber digital watch. Even the guy in the OP pic has one despite having a nice watch collection filled with HH pieces. The thing with mechanical watches though is yes, you can simplify it to it being just an accessory at this point but still, you have a marvel of mechanical engineering sitting on your wrist. It’s a novelty and it’s also a status symbol.

If you go on a run, are at the gym, at a concert/event where you don't want to worry about your phone, then it makes perfect sense. Also, if you're at work or school and checking your phone reflects poorly. You can just quickly peak at your watch notification.

Well /wt/, I have a Powermatic 80 on my bench right now, with butterfly clasp problems (whole piece of shit is so loose it opens on its own), so I guess I'll try to have a look at the escape wheel, so we can settle this debate once and for all.

Only problem is the automatic bride completely obscures it and I can't get a good look through the display caseback, but I think I'm seeing flat white plastic (desu could be my imagination).

I'll try to shine a light in there through the caseback. I won't open it though, opening a customers watch when you don't have to and fuck around with the movement is a super shitty move, and a huge breach of trust.

Timegrapher signal. It's somewhat consistent, but the rate could have been set up closer to zero. Also there's noise, and there's a small 15 beat long wave in the signal that's caused by the escape wheel being shitty plastic.

Also ignore amplitude, it's definitely incorrect, I had the lift angle set to a 2824, which look like is different for this movement. Above 330° it would definitely start knocking.

Also it makes sense that this is a 23 jewel movement, while the base ETA is 25. The missing two jewels would be in a traditional pallet fork.

The latter having what I assume, a metal escapement because it’s being advertised as having 25 jewels. The COSC version also shows it has a sillicon balance spring. Makes sense with the COSC version selling for more than the regular P80.

That santos tho. I saw one posted a few threads ago and was pretty soon hooked. That's actually the first luxury watch that i really want. I love cartier for ditching the fucking date in the medium model.
Don't know why i liked that model so much, maybe i'm developing boomer taste, getting close to 30. Already put a two tone jubilee on my diver and still am in love with it.

It does not look oversized on you, looks normal, endlinks are even smaller than your arm, which is good. Oh well, i'm cheap, so i'll research for a while and maybe get a quartz santos from an older generation, no way in hell am i paying luxury brand prices for servicing the movement when i just care for the design of the watch and not at all for the movement.
And if i get really annoyed i'll just get a good fake to cure the itch.
