How do y'all feel rank compliments when considering a new frag? Do they make the frag for you? Is it all for the ladies?

Speaking of women, does anyone know the of the year the batch of La Nuit that fragrancenet is selling?

Compliments only serve to reaffirm my own choice of fragrance. We all like compliments, and I avoid fragrances that may offend, but it's not really a factor in what I choose to wear.

Finally I caught one of these threads before it had hella posts.

So i'm a 23 year old dude. pretty clean cut looking but a little alternative/hipster whatever you wanna call it. id describe my style as disheveled chic.
i feel like a fragrance should match one's visual aesthetic to some degree but i dont know how to match my disheveled appearance. anyone have any recs for fragrances that give off an idgaf vibe?
think cuffed jeans with tucked in t shirt and a slightly oversized button up unbuttoned with either brown derbies or beat to shit canvas sneakers
was thinking of pic rel but not sure if its too formal/mature

honestly, if i'm going with a "fuck you" vibe or a mood where i'm feeling slightly edgy, i go with varvatos dark rebel, or dark rebel rider. it's a gorgeous leather with a hint of sweetness. dark rebel smells like a slightly sweet lit cigarette being put out on a leather jacket. also, i layer with head shop patchouli oil to dirty it up even further.

i feel like those frags might be a bit too dark and masculine for me. im pretty extroverted and easygoing rather than rough or mysterious. i think easygoing is a good word to describe the fragrance im looking for. i smelled this frag on this person in an art museum recently and it was very dry but pleasant. reminded me of a morning in a desert. kinda woody? but i liked that a lot and it matched the laidback look of their outfit

hmmm i think i know what you mean. have you tried out any of diptyque's frags? tam dao is a beautiful sandlewood that is pretty playful and easygoing. these are also pretty soft scents so they won't leave a giant trail behind you but will sit around you comfortably so people can smell when they come close to you.

ive been wanting to sample tam dao because reading about it, it seems like it might fit what im looking for. only thing is that it sounds pretty elegant and im kind of a brash person. i like to party a lot and get rowdy. idk man its hard to condense my entire being into one frag but i dont wanna go down the rabbit hole of buying a ton of fragrances for every occasion lol

it's not really elegant. diptique frags have a very natural smell to them. very casual, i'd say. what's wrong with a little conflict? so what if you're brash and rough. a scent that clashes a bit with your persoanlity will give off an air of curiosity, no? you dont have to wear something that absolutly fits you, because then you can become ordinary or typical.

just a heads up, i went to my local chanel boutique today and the sa confirmed that egoiste will only be carried at their boutiques. she said they're also being produced in very low quantities and they only receive around 20 per order that's decided by corporate. another thing i found interesting is that they limit 1 bottle per customer now because apparently spergs would come in and buy 5-6 bottles at a time because they would think it's being discontinued. they had 3 in stock and so i snagged one up. she said it's a classic and chanel acknowledges this and will nor be discontinued any time soon.

Speaking of Sycomore...
I have tried a few vetivers - Guerlain Leau Boise, TdH edt and edp, Anat Fritz Tzora, maybe a few others.

By the end, they have all turned into this sharp, medicinal, barbershop smell that I dont enjoy. How similar is the vetiver in Sycomore? What are the chances I will get the same effect with it? It almost seems like a bad skin reaction - but maybe thats just what vetiver smells like.

If you can only get one of those and youre broke and trying to get the sportiest one, go for Chanel or Cool water, with the latter being the cheapest. Be aware tho that cool water is total sleazecore vaporwave aesthetic type frag though and it smells a lot like black ice air freshener because they copied cool water. If you end up liking that vibe and want to go deeper, check out Drakkar Noir and then if you want to go even deeper, Kouros

Smell it for yourself. It’s just not that noteworthy and not particularly attractive. I find it smells ok and then gets cloying and annoying. It was popular in its time and smells dated now.
People like to claim things are masterpieces for things that weren’t from their time because they think it’s makes them special or they believe they have elevated and refined taste.
It’s like how teens get interested in the Beatles, but reject current artists today. It’s the same idea for people hating sauvage but loving egoiste/Fahrenheit when they weren’t around for the times the former were popular.

I’m just spitballing because I don’t want to fully flesh out my thoughts, but egoiste sucks.

I bought a 5ml decant blindly last September to use for the fall season and I HATED it when i first sprayed it. It was a slightly metallic, nutty cinnamon with citrus that didn't sit well at all and ended up scrubbing it. Went to visit the 'rents in November and brought it along with a bunch of other decants. I wore it the first night out with them to give it a second chance and my opinion changed completely. The first half hour or so it sits kinda sour, but in the drydown it becomes magical. The citrus tones down but does sit in the background while the cinnamon and sandlewood give it a warm masculinity. It does become very woody. Another thing I picked up on after wearing it a few more times was that fucking rose that wafts in and out. Perfect. In short, I got home and immediatly ordered a bottle. There's a shit ton of opinion about Egoiste on the internet but you really do have to try it out, and really give it a couple of wears to give it a verdict. I was pleasantly surprised how such an old frag could still be contemporary.

Nigger. Roja uses mostly mainstream quality materials with a thin layer of high-impact captives and smoother musk base blenders. You can waste money on shit like that because of presentation all you want.

Wanting to pay for perfumes that actually use materials worth the cash, blended in a smooth fashion and not being a confused mess of a composition, is not cheap. It's called actually knowing your shit instead of just reading online reviews and buying into meme companies with directors that pretend to be perfumers. On the contrary, PV have improved greatly in the past year. I'll be the first to say that the original Pineapple Vintage / Noir / Intense / Intense Noir entries were somewhat lacking. But the recent Evolution Soir is very, very good. I had the opportunity to test Elysium Cologne at Scent Bar LA last week after blind buying and receiving the PV clone and can confidently say that I no longer desire the Roja. Evolution Soir is to Elysium what La Yuqawam is to Tuscan Leather. It's a very high quality almost-copy that is slightly different but easily mistakable for the original, and is arguably preferable to the scent it copies. The same can be said of Sunset in Heaven, which does a great job of capturing Baccarat Rouge 540. I could easily afford to buy the originals from Fragrancebuy just like you did, but I no longer feel the need to. With 300+ bottles in my collection already, why tie up $300+ when $85 gets me all of the satisfaction?

What a miserable faggot you are. I know it’s cliche, but you must be a hit at parties. Dude comes here and posts his new frag that he’s excited about, and you just have to go out of your way to bring him down and tell him he’s stupid for buying it. Could you really not just let him enjoy his purchase? Do you really need to make yourself feel superior to people because you have such ultra-refined taste and only wear fragrances made from fermented yogurt, camel piss, and fresh squeezed beaver spunk?

>tldr: GIT is overrated, Cool Water is the superior juice

Also, I gave my bottle of Tres Nuit away...it's the same scent profile but done in the Pajeet style aka overbearingly heavy handed. If Cool Water has 20% dihydromyrcenol (it actually does) and 2% ambroxan (for arguments sake, this is already an insanely high concentration for ambroxan), Tres Nuit smells like it's 40% dihydromyrcenol and 4% ambroxan. It burns your airways and makes you go noseblind. Avoid Tres Nuit.

You can put it in your shopping cart it will stay the same price forever, then when they have a coupon code for like 10/15% extra like once or twice a year you can apply the code and you get the discount on top of the price in your cart. Honestly, this is the case with a lot of scents in this hobby. There's a lot of hype and verbose fictional writing on scents which boosts expectations and takes things into fantasy land. I suspect some people are on the chase of mind-blowing scents and have dropped lots of money on the chase. My suggestion would be to not take what's on the internet too seriously and never put your expectations on a scent beyond "very good" and you'll be much happier in this game.

This is very good advice. I’ve only ever smelled a few scents that were really mind-blowing. Scents that upon very first smell, I was like “ok, wow, I need a bottle of this right now”. There are a lot of scents that I have that I like a lot, but wasn’t absolutely blown away by, and that’s fine. Every scent doesn’t need to be perfect to be very good. If you’re only chasing the mind-blowing, you’ll be disappointed almost every time.

>> No.14098398

Logically, it seems like wearing frags can only hurt your chances with women (outside of a club/bar). Either she likes how you smell, which frankly she would have to because if she doesn't like how you yourself smell it's not going to work out, or she doesn't and you've played yaself by wearing a frag that turns her off.
