I'm thinking of trying out some gin/juniper heavy frags with preferably a woody base. I liked First Instinct for a fresh dumb reach and Davidoff's The Game was something I didn't mind testing but didn't sit right for me.
Blue Santal is one on my list but sadly I have nowhere to test CDG frags in person where I live.

I stopped wearing both of those around last year when the Entrepreneur vs Cary Grant meme was in full swing. Re tried both of them last week and they just don't tick the boxes anymore:

Cool Water comes to save the day. It's light concentration is inoffensive and allows for you to smell the individual notes. And it was actually made by the same nose that made GIT, and not the Superior Arab Nose who makes the Armaf juice.

That kind of shit can honestly work for CDNIM because it's trying to copy the definitive power chypre of the 2010s. GIT isn't like that.

My choice in the GIT-Cool Water category is AdP Colonia Club. It's smoother than either of the 80's originators with added mint. Just retro-scummy enough to scratch the itch without feeling wholly antiquated.

They're all obsolete now that Emperor is out. Emperor is finally 99% Aventus. The original Pineapple Village and Pineapple Vintage Noir are comparatively old and busted. Pineapple Vintage Intense, Vanilla Intense, and King are all very similar to one another. I'd call them all 90% Aventus, but featuring more pineapple and lacking realistic birch. Very good scents all, but brighter and more fruit focused, lacking some of the nuance.

I can't peg down Tam Dao edt. I have a sample I've been wearing and I can't smell a damn thing after 2 hours but then, out of nowhere, I'll be downwind somewhere and I catch a nice whiff of it. I've read how performance was bad and I do believe, but I get it here and there hours later. I'm honestly confused. I love the scent, but it sucks I only smell it in bursts. Really happy with this and with my order as a whole, only regret is I didn't get a non-Vetiver frag like Mugler Cologne but all my choices (TdH EDT, ENS, Guerlain Vetiver) have really individual character and one blind bought cheapie is probably enough per order, and Guerlain to me is really bright and zingy so that will be a great hot weather scent while the other two will see me through the autumn.

I'm in Australia and I have to go to Melbourne to try a broad selection, your mall mightn't have a great spread (but that said we do get shafted here). I tried on a lot of frags before I settled on a list to mail order, basically a combination of reading what sounded interesting using the resources here and what is a good deal, and then going to try them on. From that finding accords I like and trying others based on those accords, as well as the odd recommendation by the counter goons, although it can be very chancey getting one of those that's at all decent.

If you are in the middle of nowhere and don't get to a big city much, the best thing to do would be to try what you can to identify the sorts of things you like, then bulk order samples.

Tried this at Nordstrom today and absolutely fell in love. However, I don't know if I can justify spending over $250 on cologne. I've heard Versace Oud Noir is a reasonable alternative--can anyone comment?

Good. I think this is part of the aesthetic, in a way. For some reason, Diptyques feel like they're intended to be personal and subtle, which his kind of how I prefer my fragrance anyway.

I'm really impressed with the house, Tam Dao is the only one I have worn, but I recently got my nose on the whole line. My first impression: No rough edges on any of them, very well blended, natural, and unique. Like I said, all somewhat understated. Ever since smelling Tempo I've been eager to try I on. Idk why I didnt get a sample while I was there.

IMO yes. It meets the hype except for one (potentially crucial) respect. It lasts a very long time and projects ridiculously, yet no one will be offended by it. It is a highly appealing yet unique smell. It is hyper versatile. All of these make it a very effective buy if you are trying to please those around you. But at least in my case, I can only smell it if I put my nose right against where I sprayed. I catch the odd, very faint whiff if I move about but generally I can't detect it. This is unfortunate if you wears frags more so for your own enjoyment than for others, but as a purely utilitarian perfume based on its perception by others it can't really be beat. Not the same anon, but I've tried a lot of Diptyque and I did Tempo on a card and didn't like it but I'm so intrigued with it that I need to go back and test it on skin or grab a sample. Something makes me think I'll love it. Philosykos EdT is my top currently from the line, so fresh and figgy. Deserves the hype, it's a great summer fragrance.

I smelled le labo noir 29 (loved this but a bit too flowery to me), patchouli (oof i hated this, smells like a cheap, sugary tomato sauce straight out of burger king to me and it's still on my cardigan now), Fahrenheit (didnt smell on skin, will do that some other time), dior sauvage (very boring. Well first of all his aoud fragrances are heavily dyed (the crystal ones literally just have the dye not added), and all he does is aoud accords with mostly cypriol. Synthetic aoud accords can smell like the real thing if done well, or may be even better than low-quality actual aoud. Even though the profile of various aouds can vary, you can easily tell a good quality synthetic aoud accord apart from proper quality aoud.
