I'm thinking of trying out some gin/juniper heavy frags with preferably a woody base. I liked First Instinct for a fresh dumb reach and Davidoff's The Game was something I didn't mind testing but didn't sit right for me.

And expanding on this, I actually just got rid of my bottles of Invictus and Armaf Tres Nuit, because both of them are replaceable by Cool Water.

I stopped wearing both of those around last year when the Entrepreneur vs Cary Grant meme was in full swing. Re tried both of them last week and they just don't tick the boxes anymore:
>Invictus has this unconscionably synthetic hairspray opening, and an unconscionably synthetic deodorant like composite woody amber drydown. It smells good but it seems more suited to a young latino fuccboi with a hard part/douchy line in his hair. IMO this is the worst of the new age ambroxan bombs. Sauvage and even Dylan Blue are way better choices.
>Tres Nuit doesn't smell bad at all. It's a GIT clone but it's done in the Armaf style, which means higher end EDP concentration, advertised as EDT, with the cheapest Chinese chemicals available on the market. It seems like they didn't use designer grade aromachemicals from a European company and instead decided to opt for undiluted industrial cleaners. It's unwearable.

Cool Water comes to save the day. It's light concentration is inoffensive and allows for you to smell the individual notes. And it was actually made by the same nose that made GIT, and not the Superior Arab Nose who makes the Armaf juice.

That kind of shit can honestly work for CDNIM because it's trying to copy the definitive power chypre of the 2010s. GIT isn't like that.

My choice in the GIT-Cool Water category is AdP Colonia Club. It's smoother than either of the 80's originators with added mint. Just retro-scummy enough to scratch the itch without feeling wholly antiquated.
Chez Bond is also a good entry, being more citrus-grassy than chokingly full of herbal violet leaf.

>> No.14068043

>>14067894
The reviews look good but its a little expensive for what it is. That scummy sleaze factor is a huge part of Cool Water's appeal and I don't really see that being conveyed here, it can really only be conveyed by bottles that have been sitting in a CVS or Rite Aid under fluorescent lights for the past 4 years that you buy because it smells like Black Ice (it's actually cheaper for what you get) along with the Rohtos and chewing gum you'll use after you smoke weed later. Purity of form and function desu

post a meme question, get a meme answer. you're basically asking for blind buy recommendations without any information to guide suggestions. there is a good chance you will hate whatever you buy and feel you have wasted your money, there was an anon in the previous thread that blind bought recommendations and hated them too

you could at least read the material in the sticky, think about what situations you would wear the frag, even name a SINGLE note you like. you dont have to be familiar with fragrance to be able to say something like 'i enjoy the smell of vanilla and cinnamon.' if you work in an office and want to wear something every day there that will be a much different recommendation than something you would wear once every couple weeks on a date.

I'm in Australia and I have to go to Melbourne to try a broad selection, your mall mightn't have a great spread (but that said we do get shafted here). I tried on a lot of frags before I settled on a list to mail order, basically a combination of reading what sounded interesting using the resources here and what is a good deal, and then going to try them on. From that finding accords I like and trying others based on those accords, as well as the odd recommendation by the counter goons, although it can be very chancey getting one of those that's at all decent.

If you are in the middle of nowhere and don't get to a big city much, the best thing to do would be to try what you can to identify the sorts of things you like, then bulk order samples.

Good. I think this is part of the aesthetic, in a way. For some reason, Diptyques feel like they're intended to be personal and subtle, which his kind of how I prefer my fragrance anyway.

I'm really impressed with the house, Tam Dao is the only one I have worn, but I recently got my nose on the whole line. My first impression: No rough edges on any of them, very well blended, natural, and unique. Like I said, all somewhat understated. Ever since smelling Tempo I've been eager to try I on. IMO yes. It meets the hype except for one (potentially crucial) respect. It lasts a very long time and projects ridiculously, yet no one will be offended by it. It is a highly appealing yet unique smell. It is hyper versatile. All of these make it a very effective buy if you are trying to please those around you. But at least in my case, I can only smell it if I put my nose right against where I sprayed. I catch the odd, very faint whiff if I move about but generally I can't detect it. This is unfortunate if you wears frags more so for your own enjoyment than for others, but as a purely utilitarian perfume based on its perception by others it can't really be beat. However, you may be able to smell it better than me in which case its a no brainer.

Well first of all his aoud fragrances are heavily dyed (the crystal ones literally just have the dye not added), and all he does is aoud accords with mostly cypriol. Synthetic aoud accords can smell like the real thing if done well, or may be even better than low-quality actual aoud. Even though the profile of various aouds can vary, you can easily tell a good quality synthetic aoud accord apart from proper quality aoud.

Amouage - Interlude man 5/5
Amouage - Reflection man 4/5 solid but I have other neroli frags that work better for me
Amouage - Jubilation man 4/5 nice but shitty longevity
Chanel - Sycomore 3/5 average performance, I prefer Encre Noire to it
MFK - Baccarat Rouge 540 4/5 snice
TF - Noir de noir 5/5
TF - Sole Di positano 4/5 good but you'd be better off with neroli forte or mandarino - the same applies to originals imo
TF - Tobacco Vanille 5/5 one of the best apos
TF Neroli portofino acqua - idk, forte is 5/5 though
Roja - Diaghilev 5/5 one of the best apos
Roja - Amber oud 4/5 snice but too soapy for me
ParfumsDeMarly - Layton 3/5 everything is fine with it, I just find this Apple Vanilla mix plebeian. I wouldn't buy original neither
Nasomatto - Duro 2/5 just a linear smell of wood with some leather in the beginning. May be good for layering
Nasomatto - Pardon 4/5 Duro's wood but with yummy dark choc
Montale - Wild pears 4/5 realistic pear bomb
FredericMalle - Portait of a lady 5/5 but I had to give it to my gf, we love it
Guerlain - Santal Royal 3/5 too heavy on the peach note comparing to original
Creed Green irish tweed 6/5 100% accurate copy
Kilian Straight to heaven extreme 5/5 sick
Nasomatto Black Afghano 6/5 indistinguishable from original
Neroli Portofino Forte 5/5

Whats a good spring scent that's not citrusy? I don't mind a little but I don't want artisan pure. I was thinking pine, or patchouli, or water. The earthier fresh scents.

It’s the best advice you’ll get, because scent is extremely personal and subjective. We could give you recommendations for things we like, but odds are good she won’t like it. Fragrance is very hard to buy for another person. That’s why it’s better to let her pick it out herself.
