>generally shoehorned into wearing the same leather jacket/boots all the time unless youre one of the retards that wear shorts and flipflops on a litre bike

basically motorcycles are good if you aren't effay because the gear and helmet will hide your ugliness and inability to dress yourself

xman is not very specific
>get your m1, written test that costs $15 at drivetest
this allows you to drive a motorcycle sunrise to sundown in fair conditions, without a passenger. I rode to and from work every day for 2 months, at night and in the rain without any issue, but I was on a low CC learning bike that didn't draw any attention or go over the speed limit. insurance during this time will fuck you in the ass, I only paid $40/month because I was on a 100cc bike, but you have to pay for the whole year. if you don't think you'll use it that much, just wait.

after 2 months you can do your m2 test. without buying and insuring a bike during this time you can't get any experience so you are usually forced to take a rider training safety course. the safety course will run you around $300, maybe more - i'm not sure about the pricing in different places. the course will give you an insurance break, so it pays off.

in my experience we did one 8 hour day indoors of written work, mostly being told the barebones basics about safety and all that. they insisted for the riding portion, we must absolutely have leather riding gloves that cover the wristbone, a textile, heavy denim or leather riding jacket that went below the waist, heavy denim or textile pants that overlapped our boots, leather or moto boots that went above our ankles, and a DOT approved helmet.

the following weekend consisted of two 8 hour days on the bikes with 20 other people, learning how all different kinds operate and handle, mostly learning about the friction zone and low speed maneuvering. the funny thing about motorcycling is that going slowly is actually a lot more difficult than going fast, so this is almost exclusively what you'll be doing, never going above 2nd gear or 40km for most of it, with certain exercises possibly going to third. at the end of the second day you'll take your m2 test, included in the course, and within a couple days you can update you license

Should have stated I'm in the US. My experience:

Instructor gave us all the answers to the written test after watching a safety video, then we the had the riding portion (they let you borrow a half helmet) for the rest of the day.

After that one day class and getting your endorsement, you're free to go out and buy a 1000cc bike if you wanted to. You only need insurance in my state even if you plan to ride without a helmet

they don't really give a fuck over here. Lot of crazy mf's out here on the streets

80s masterrace reporting in. Not mine but similar.

I get a lot of envy hate from old bikers I know that hate being reminded that they are old.

No-bikers find it cool though. The bike is not made for speed though, but gravel and hill-riding which fits me perfectly.

In my opinion, cafe racers are not that /fa/. I've worked on multiple projects before with my friends because everyone seems to jump on this band wagon (and I can understand this because the shape is easy to follow with the eye, which makes it look gorgeous to anyone.) But these shits are uncomfortable in the long run, it's sole purpose is to make a quick run to wherever you have to go (I mean that's the origin of the cafe racer, Brits would play short races between each other to the shop/cafe.)

But the real /fa/ factor comes from working on your own bike from scratch. I received an old Bonneville from the 80s from my uncle last year as a birthday gift and it's been a blast. Your personal touch is what makes it /fa/ (as long as you know what you're going after and got the basics for a good looking bike) I've been working on my own gas tank/handlebars these days (might create a new frame but I'm not sure about that yet, we will see in the future.)

Besides, you get to know the ins and outs of your bike.

TL;DR Customizing your own bike gives it a sense of authenticity, which is the pinnacle of /fa/. As long as it doesn't look like shit of course.
