https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/designers-designers-watch-braun-classics

>If the clocks had an unlikely start, the story of the analog watches is almost even more unlikely: In the late 1970s big clients of Braun, business clients buying several pallets of appliances, were sometimes rewarded with a little gift. And somebody within the company had gone for the trend in the 1970s of plastic Japanese giveaway watches with your company logo on it. When Dietrich Lubs first saw such a "Braun watch" he got very upset. "Such flimsy watches were just not Braun-worthy. 'This is just not right!' I said to Rams, who simply replied. 'So, make a proposal for an analog Braun watch then?'"

So extremely German..

>Are they really good?
No, for several reasons.
Manufacture can be sophisticated, but it's just about getting the thing passable as genuine to an untrained eye. Even the most refined replica will be spotted by an expert in a close inspection.
Replicas are counterfeit goods, which are illegal in most countries, so they have zero value since they can't be reselled (you would commit a crime).
Movements are usually counterfeit ETAs; even if they state it's swiss ETA, how could you trust those fuckers?
So, watches that originally use ETA movements are more easy to counterfeit (such as Panerai), but still will be spotted as fake.
Some "high level" Rolex replicas try to counterfeit the movement too, but they usually turn up as tragedies since such movements, while they might fool an untrained eye, are utterly imprecise and prone to break very easily.

There aren't that many handwind high beats out there (assuming you mean 5hz+). The Seiko 5740 and 45xx series would count. I believe all the citizen 36k movements as well as the 60s/70s swiss 36k movements are automatic. The breguet 10hz is handwind though not super accessible.
