when they were young it was good quality, european or american made clothing giving off the "i've made it in life" vibe, and most of their stuff wasnt even branded btw. if you check their old advertisements and catalogues it was literally the perfect life
nowadays it is still not a bad brand but of course not what it once was, most of it is made abroad and the choices are limited. it has also become cheaper and more available to quench the demand which is of course really against the image it once portrayed

it was the image of the perfect american family
honestly companies nowadays could learn something about early polo ralph lauren marketing, it was incredibly effective. drake's does something similar in their lookbooks (but to a much lesser extent) and i feel like that is also one of the reasons theyve become so popular so quickly
though of course nowadays people dress like negros did in the 90s so it might be different, although conservative dress is on the rise again

Because zoomers are their target audience. Most men realize at some point that there are some alternatives to ugly uncomfy canvas sneakers so Vans need to push their product for next generation always keeping it cool and trendy.

If you're in the UK a lot of heritage Saville Row brands do nice knitwear and basics.

Drake's, J. Press, Cordings but mostly you'll have to look for induvidual brands for induvidual items like knitwear from Scottish Brands such as Jamieson's and Harley, shirts from brands such as Drake's, Kamakura and Mercer and Sons, footwear from Crockett and Jones and Alden etc.

Nah I'm from central europe and probably can't afford bespoke garments...
I like Polo for their style and the fact you can pick them up for a decent price on sale. But the last couple years I realized that the quality varies a lot. Their basic 100% cotton polo is still nice, but now they have so much cheap chinese synthetic crap on offer now.

I was looking at brooks brothers and barbour for a jacket....

Polo has some nice things. Just make sure what you buy is made in Italy.

>> No.14045959

brooks brothers nowadays have a lot of the same issues as polo do in regards to quality.
anyway barbour made in england wax jackets are really good spring and fall jackets

>> No.14045961

Just note the names of the brands. I find you can pick up their knitwear, trousers, polos, etc in TK Maxx ridiculously cheap because they're relatively unknown amongst brand whores.

I've given all of them a superficial look. What items do you own from these brands?

>> No.14046008

>>14045996
2 drake's shirts and a kamakura shirt
sweaters from bothharley and jamiesons
thats it really i cant afford crockett and jones shoes so just stick to my trusty meermin and if i need a new sportscoat ill probably get a j. press one

90s PRL is god tier. Its what american apparel aspired to but failed miserably at emulating

African american people usually covet the shittier stuff they made that was either bright primary colors or had large logos

How's the kamakura shirt, aren't they tailored to the oriental physique?
Currently looking at Drake's/Brooks Brothers jumpers/sweaters.

>> No.14046084

>>14046068
nowadays since opening in the usa they have the 'new york' fit which is actually just as long as my drake's shirts (84cm) but i was able to pick slightly longer sleeves
anyway i think they are about equally good quality wise but kamakura has better sleeves for me, but drake's goes on sale while kamakura does not so i can pick up drake's shirts for cheaper
i also ordered a brooks brothers shirt but it hasnt arrived yet, will compare the three in the /trad/ general when it does

Because we know the "Perfect American family" was a sham. You grew up being the child of this "perfect" family. You knew you and your parents were just putting on an act for their friends and vice versa. It's pretentious as fuck.

very little people grew up in a PRL-type family, unless you lived on a country estate, went skiing every year, had a tennis court in your backyard, went on safari everyyear, had to go to events with suit dresscodes 2 a week, owned a yacht and were white
