Theres a fine line between post-punk in general to goth, It might be cringy, joy division set the basis for the lyrics, but
siouxsie and Bauhaus set the look, what i notice it's that joy division has none of the looks that bands like the cure would have, so i don't know why you would set them with the romantic era of goth instead of where it should

I just think you're confusing what is typically regarded as punk and DIY ideals or culture with goth ideals or culture. That's why I said I didn't give a shit about strict definitions though because the lines are so blurred at this point, a lot of new wave or post punk bands could be considered goth if they wore more eyeliner. Like imagine if Morrissey dressed exclusively in black clothing.

that's not goth, that's just being edgy. goth is a music based subculture that came from punk. it includes stuff like post punk, darkwave, goth rock, etc. of course wearing all-black and teasing your hair has to do with goth, but only in terms of aesthetics.
