Where's that anon who wears flannels and the gold rolex with the perlon strap? Need to ask you something brah. But I guess general question to anyone - is there such a thing as a wool strap? Specifically a wool perlon strap. After buying my first perlon I was slightly disappointed that all the pictures and shit kinda tricked me into thinking it was gonna be this soft woven kind of strap and tbqh it's not as nice as I thought. That anon who wears the gold rolex with grey perlon always has his looking soft as fuck and even if it's not I want to know if it's possible to find such a strap so that its fuzzy on the wrist

The original Omega Seamaster 300 that this new one is based on had radium lume.
To create radium lume, radium was mixed with zinc sulfide, which naturally has a yellowish-brownish tint because of the sulphur content (hence 'sulfide').
See pic.

So the lume on the original 1957 Seamaster 300 would have looked very much like the lume on the modern variant: slightly yellowish-brown. Maybe a little lighter than the modern variant's lume.

Oh, and the modern SM300 doesn't have a painted dial, it's matte ceramic.

Wait, you were talking about the actual dial, not the lume (which also tends to turn brown).
Those dials were painted brass, I guess the radiation from the radium simply changed/decayed the paint's molecular structure.
Same reason old watch dials without radium show browning just from being exposed to solar radiation (hence the name tropical, i.e. tons of sun).

I was very close to buying one last year. It was a really close call between this and the Pelagos, with the Omega being much more versatile.

It's a very nice blend of sporty and refined, meaning it pretty much goes with everything except outright manual labor or black tie events.

The watch has a god-tier side profile, extremely high finishing standards (both internal and external), pretty much shitting all over Rollie Subs in these regards.

The movement is very high-end as well; having the three-level coaxial design in an architecture designed entirely from the ground up (rather than the troublesome older two-level designs which were retrofitted into standard ETA movements), a silicon hairspring, and it has the extremely rigorous Metas testing certification.
It's also very nicely (machine-) finished, and is visible through the exhibition caseback.

In the end, I had a last-minute change of heart regarding "tool watches" in general, where I couldn't really reconcile the luxury and tool aspects of mechanical watches like the SM300 or the Rolex Submariner.

So I ended up buying a Seiko Tuna (SBBN031).
Very close in terms of finishing and heritage, with a cool overbuilt 80s quartz movement that is much more accurate and robust than any mechanical, even ones with a silicon hairspring and Metas certification.

I have.

I spent a long time looking for the ideal mechanical "sports/tool" watch, with the Pelagos as the front runner for most of that period.
But the more I looked into it, the less it made sense to have a mechanical "tool" watch with a movement that has almost the same level of finishing as a cool quartz movement (see pic), but nowhere near the ruggedness and performance. Even with all the fancy mechanical movement tech (silicon hairspring, super duper observatory accuracy certification, full balance bridge, Breguet overcoil, dual mainspring barrels, etc.).

So I bought a Seiko Tuna (the one on the left in your pic), and it just makes absolute perfect sense.

>very high finishing quality
>similarly satisfying minimalistic "tool" design as a Pelagos
>BUT visually more interesting than a Pelagos (domed instead of flat crystal, polished highlights instead of all matte, unique case design instead of bloated Oyster case, etc.)
>old-school overbuilt quartz movement from the 80s (see pic)
>absolute best lume on any watch ever

It's absolutely perfect.

They had two-level designs, and were extremely finnicky to oil and reportedly wore very quickly without oil.

The new 8xxx generation has a three-level design, and as far as can be told after 10 years runs exactly as intended and promised.
Omega even upped its warranty period.

Yes.
Much of the bad press regarding the old generation of coaxials came from a watchmaker called Archer, and he himself says he hasn't had much experience with the new three-level generation, but he did say that the oiling situation was much improved.

50m of water resistance is more than for swimming. The issue is that non-diver "50m" watches aren't individually tested, they are sample tested, and there is not even a required percentage of those sample tested that must pass. If your watch individual watch is actually water resistant to 50m (perhaps you had it tested - watches you're relying on for water resistance should be tested yearly anyways) it's fine for swimming.

Agreed, that's where the swatch group comes in. I see hundreds of clients a year in the 50k bracket like me. So many of them wearing Longines. For 1-2k you get something like an eta 2892-a2 with +-2sec accuracy, Swiss made, mechanical kudos and looks great. One supplier of mine wore a rolex to a meeting, the only thing I remember was writing a reminder to get comparative prices as he was obviously on too much commission...

Really want to buy pic related, in my opinion this is the quintessential rolex these days, but it just feels wrong ordering one on the internet. Like, I feel like I have to go to an adventure somewhere and buy it in some remote shop in Asia or something, since I really would want to keep this watch as long as possible

Since getting into watches I've noticed a lot more what other people wear and it's almost all fashion watch quartz shitters.
Same with getting into boots and Goodyear welted footwear and realizing almost all boots you see people wear are cheap glued on shit.

anyone have experience with Sinn watches? I just love the look and ruggedness of them, I feel like these are the nowadays tool watches now that rolex and omegas have shot up in price, and at around $2k, they are pretty cheap

Although I'm not sure about the movement and the """heritage""" of these

Yes there are very strict rules. If you're going to wear a nato in let's say navy and white. You have to wear a belt like pic related and you can only wear minimal white leather sneakers or navy chuck taylors.

Then get brown leather shoes and a watch with a brown leather strap. To add a bit of variety to your wardrobe be sure to buy this belt, you can match it with your diver on a bond nato. Get a pair of black shoes and you have 2 respectable fits.
