There some super high end models like Jacobs and co (check producermichael on youtube).
With cheaper stuff there are hundreds of novelty shitters that are made in china in most of the cases.
Check out nixie watches, those might be your thing.

Two "shitters" became new "shitter" straps. Right one is a daily beater, survived pistol recoil, swimming in pool and salt water, beach time and being dropped a few times, zero scratches on the glass, oddly.

Done I suppose. The seconds hands still needs to be painted, it was originally white.

Also a neat function I found out when assembling is that the second hand can be adjusted with the crown. In the innermost position the crown can be turned and one click in one direction makes the second hand stop for a second, and one click in the other direction makes it jump an extra second. So if the watch is a few seconds faster or slower from atomic time it can be set without hacking it. Pretty neat.

Here are the parts responsible for that function: the two gold-plated eccentrics and the rod between them. When the crown is turned in one of the two directions a finger will push the rod into one of the eccentrics, that are electric contacts. When the rod touches it the circuit completes and the movement either stops for a second or jumps forward a second, depending on the contact. Pretty neat for 1977. Also everything looks to be adjustable with a screwdriver, but I didn't have to touch these.

Also ignore the dirt, this is before servicing. I took pictures since no service sheets are available. Nor any pictures online really of this movement.

I suppose most is lost with the pallet jewels sliding on the impulse teeth. Assuming this is a healthy watch.

On a dirty watch power is lost on the pivots, and maybe the dirty mainspring scraping the barrel walls. On a worn watch, with the pivot holes now worn into an oval shape, so the wheel move further apart from each other, so the gear teeth will not mesh correctly. That's a big loss of power.

Don't know, Nomos is generally very open about their internals. There are a lot of tricks to make the gear-train more smooth, these are easier to achieve the more simpler the movement is, and generally Nomos makes sub-seconds movements, which is as simple as it gets.

>>14015515
As for current production movements, maybe the Unitas whatever that ETA makes. As for all movements, the last generation of Swiss and Soviet sub-seconds movements were pretty much perfect in simplicity. Not a single part was redundant or overcomplicated.

>>14015541
Not much was needed. Movement service, new crystal, ultrasonic cleaned the case and bracelet, and buffed the polished side of the case. I still need to paint the seconds hand white, and get it WR tested, see if I need to source a new crown gasket, as it's not exactly generic. Not impossible to find, but definitely specialized.

Did you manage to source an original Seiko crystal? Mine could do with a new one but I can't find any NOS, and I don't want to replace the original with anything third party as it would lack the slightly pearlescent effect of the AR coating. It's a GMT watch with some kind of world time function, or so it seems.. What does the crown at 7 o'clock do? If I had to guess, I'd say turning that crown will turn the outer rim around the dial. Speculating on, I'd guess that if the GMT hand (the one with the arrow) points at the city signifying your time zone, the numbers on the outer ring signify the time in other cities.

So, taking the example in the pic:
GMT points to London meaning it's an hour later in Paris (which is correct), another hour later in Cairo (correct) and yet another hour later in Moscow (also correct) and so forth?

The manual probably explains it as well btw..

Sure, if you don't mind paying 8 grand for a steel dive watch.. That also grew pigfat in the past decade or so, and has that stupidly large case with the weirdly skinny bracelet (probably another generation or 2 before they enlarge those too) and has just 1 sentence less text in it's paragraph.
