A workshop on perfume making with a specialist is worth half of a bottle of this Creed and will expand your understanding of perfumes exponentially. If you're based in UK look up Chris Barrett from basenotes. He's done such workshops in past for around £150. That's what I'd go for.

I can't say I'm in love with the collection man. The hooker stories are fun to read and all but it seems like the bottles are mostly inconsequential niche trudgery and every designer is just memes. No classics, nothing utilitarian, no semblance of anything that would be in the wardrobe of somebody who is grounded.

It is admirable though how the immensely hedonist and expensive collection matches the amsterdam hooker posts. I'll give you that m8 and I'm not hating. I just think you should check out something like Prada Amber or Laura Biaggioti Roma Uomo, which are examples of designer frags that take familiar accords and amplify the fuck out of them in Prada's case, or in the case of Roma Uomo take something from the past and merge it with something from the future, well before BdC did it and for way cheaper.

YSL Y EDP is unironically good. I read it being absolutely shit on but tried it at my local deadmall and it's actually pleasant. I get it's redundant but there's something to it that makes it a bit oriental smelling. Different.

I’ve tried Prada Amber, actually. Wasn’t a fan. I have been meaning to grab a Guerlain frag or two. I really have sampled a lot of designer scents. I do travel quite a bit, always take the opportunity to try out some designers when I’m at the airport. I’ve also ordered a ton of samples over the years, both niche and designer. Just haven’t found too many that I liked.

A scent being a “meme” is meaningless to me. I don’t pay attention to that stuff, I think people who avoid things because they’re “memes” are idiots who’ve fried their brain by being on the internet too much. It’s the same as the kids who lose their shit if they see an interracial couple on TV, because they’re on /pol/ so much, they can’t separate memes from reality anymore. I actually use things like Roja Elysium, PVI, or Reflection as my “utilitarian” scents. I’ll wear those pretty much wherever. I do wear everything I own at one time or another.

New to an appreciation of frags, seems I love vetiver. I have realised this in part, due to all my summer frags having a vetiver note.

Cool water, Versace Pour Homme (or Eau Fraiche), Bvlgari Aqva and its flankers are worth a look. Mugler Cologne is good if you want something cheap that just makes you smell clean.

Interesting how polarising Vetiver can be. I hate it (it smells like somebody shoved dried grass up my nose in terms of smell and making me sneeze) but Grey Vetiver is one of my favourites. It’s the one exception.

Should I cop Versace Eros and a shower gel pack for 23€? It's a good deal but is the frag something I definitely should have in my collection? I’m not sure. There was something I just didn’t like in it. It smelled soapy, which I usually rather like, but there was a note that just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe the saffron. I tend to be pretty sensitive to artificial saffron, because I cook, so I know what real saffron smells like. I guess the artificial stuff bugs me because of that.

I've got a weird problem with Acqua di Gio Profumo. I've got 2 bottles of it. First one which I bought initially has the classic bouquet: woody and aromatic tenderness along with the aquatic notes. The second one has little to no aquatics, it's pretty strong on patchouli and incense. It's still smells good, it's not a knock off or fake by any means but it doesn't have the freshness I expected.

Have anyone experienced anything similar with their collection?

just got free 1.5ml samples of malin + goetz vetiver and dark rum today lads. might be my favourite vetiver ever. really fresh but still moodier than any vetiver I've smelt before. iris works well and more of an amber drydown

dark rum is nice, less traditionally "alcoholic" idk but more of a plum top note and hints of... ice cream? very smooth and not biting/edgy like most rum frags

Lasts quite a while, and is complex enough to wear alone. I would recommend not layering it with anything. Ensar also has some cheaper ouds, but different ouds can be very different smelling. I own both Tuscan Leather and I purchased Ombré Leather '16 when it was still a private blend and I vastly preferred it over Tuscan Leather to the point where I would wear TL more to preserve OL for special occasions. When I found out OL made a come back I nearly shit myself. When I found out the price for a 100ml bottle I actually shit myself. Tested both '18 and '16 and found no discernible difference in performance. Immediately went out and purchased two bottles fearing reformation or price hike or discontinuation. Something like 95% of all deodorants and perfumes I ever try on become denatured very quickly and no longer smell good. Over the years I've tried 5-6 different kinds of CK deo sticks and the only one that maintains an agreeable smell after prolonged use is CK One Shock. Every other deodorant I have used genuinely smells unpleasant to me after 30 minutes/1 hour, especially if I sweat.

You want an unscented deodorant, ideally a crystal deodorant like pic related. The crystal is a salt that inhibits bacteria growth. You moisten it and rub into your armpits. I've already been down that road, all the way to "high intensity 72h" antiperspirants, the 7-day antiperspirant creams, the "apply before going to bed" advice and all that nonsense. Totally ineffective. I mean, I'm sure there must be SOME scents that work for me, but finding them is the problem. For instance, I used plebeian shaving creams/gels when I first started shaving. Nowadays I only use Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood soap (also used Coconut soap and Rose cream, not bad) and that smells even better after shaving than before!
