Why is Vacheron Constantin considered to be in the "holy trinity"? I see no one on the internet talking about VC, ever. I know of only two of their models, the traditionnelle and the overseas, but it's nowhere to be seen on the internet or talked about.

Great watchmaking isn't about exposure, look at Rolex, they're super exposed and make shitty utilitarian movements.

Fine watchmaking is about just that, fine watchmaking. Not the type of blingy shit that niggers put on their wrist as >>13996020 pointed out.

Apart from that, VC, and I love VC, is a bit of yesterdays news. They had Napoleon, Patek has Robert Downey Jr if you know what I mean. Not that VC makes worse watches than Patek, far from it. VC has fucking amazing complications. But they also had some terrible models, the Overseas predecessor was a fucking ugly abomination.

VC is the McLaren of the watch industry. Sure it's amazing, but for the same money you can get a Porsche or a Ferrari too.

The holy trinity all have the same things in common. They only ever produced Haute Horology and have always been at the highest level of watch making, they have all been in continuous operation since their founding and all they have a huge amount of history and tradition.

I believe Vacheron are the single longest watch house that still exists, over 250 years of watch production. However they do not produce a lot of watches. In their entire existance they have only made around 1 million watches. Rolex have made more than than in a single year.

Many 19th-century watches could definitely be retroactively be seen as conforming to Bauhaus principles. That's the nature of two pointers going around in a circle.

Why is the 300-500 range so shit nowadays? Even before they discontinued the SARB line, those were basically the only watches that were both a, reasonably sized and proportioned b, good bang per buck c, good for everyday wear with decent lume, water resistance, and decent movements ( not those powermatic/H-10-20-30-40 shitters with the fuckin plastic escapements ).

The Tissot Visodate has poor proportions, no lume, unreliable handwinding, poor water resistance, and is incompatible with bracelets.

SARBs are leaving the orbit with their prices, Presages are a fucking ripoff compared to them.

Hamilton calibers ( and most Tissot, for that matter ) use powermatic calibers.

This watch is really rustling up my jimbos. The owner only wanted a new crown, other than that they intend to run it into the ground. The watch desperately needs service, it's just barely running. It doesn't even have a buckle anymore, the straps torn, it's just used as a nightstand clock.

It even has an in-house manual-wind movement, but it's really odd. It's similar to my own auto Roamer, so much that it looks like an automatic movement with date that had all the automatic and day complication stuff removed. The crown even has a middle position that does nothing. So maybe this watch had its movement replaced with the automatic version, only stripped down to manual-wind only.

Is this a good watch? And are there other watches with a similar case? I kind of like the lugs. I was thinking of maybe buying one and changing the strap because the one it comes with only has a snap-on clasp, might open by accident easily. I have a similar watch and the bracelet is falling apart and the clasp opens by accident easily. I think that one also was automatic only, i.e. no hand winding. But I'm not sure because it begins to move if you twist the (tiny) crown, but that might just be stored energy in the movement that breaks off when you do that, don't know.

back then fake rolexes were quartz shit with a battery lobbed in them and had jap movement.
these days fake rolexes got auto oyster perpetual movement, the cyclops, sapphire glass and everything. the only way to tell if they're fakes is by pulling up a magnifying glass and look at the numbers on the bezel to see if theyre printed or machined on something the chinks neglect because they'd be too expensive to do.
chinks, as disgusting as /pol/ made them to be, are super hard and resourceful workers. no other race in this world has the autism as these guys to replicate stuff perfectly down to its minute details and sell them at 200 times less.

It's a pain in the ass, I don't wear the watch every day so every time I want to put it on I have to destroy my fingernails trying to pull the crown to set the time. I don't even bother setting the date on it either since there's no quickset.

I think they were popular for a while when automatic movements were a premium thing and you wanted to show off that you didn't need to use the crown for winding.

Quartz Rolex fakes are the Shenzhen special. If we take the 116610 which I believe is at V6/V7 now for the replicas, the bezel + number colours isn’t still accurate, the yuki 3135, made with Chinesium still has terrible finishing and will crap out on you in the next few years. Obviously if you copy something over and over and over again you’ll get it 80% correct after a few years but that’s not craftsmanship. And it’s easy to sell something “200 times” less when you steal designs, don’t pay your workers properly, you don’t do any marketing because it’s a stolen design, you don’t have to pay for watchsmiths at your service centres and etc etc etc. You’re not just buying a watch with Rolex.

rolex is a made up nonsense "name". tudor is a real name with real history

rolex cases are all curvy and gay, designed primarily for women and effeminate "men". tudor cases are robust and present yet refined.

rolex bracelets have half-links and pressure clasps because people that buy a rolex are finicky wishy-washy bastards. tudor bracelets only come with full links because tudor men have big 8 inch wrists and will be using them all

rolex movements are stuffed full of gimmicks and swirly patterns that you will never ever see, never ever need, and will cost you a small fortune and two months to have serviced by dickheads that will do everything they can to fuck your ass. tudor uses tried and true top grade ETA movements which are modified to have only the most essential upgrades, making them both practical AND a great value. if your tudor needs service? no problem, just stop the next greek you see walking down the street and he will have your watch fixed up by the end of the day for 20 dollars.

Rolex produces watches at a level of precision unrivaled by any manufacturer, modern or historical, at their scale.
