I recently got a pair of 1k Evans for 200 on their most recent sale and so far so good. I have a nice ish office job but live in a city that gets snow, so I wanted something that would look good while letting me walk on my commute without busting my ass. I'm also not one to own many pairs of shoes, so their neutral look and ability to be worn through most seasons besides summer was also a selling point for me.

I own both Wolverine 1ks and Red Wings and like both. The Wolverine 1Ks are not a work boot at all. They are a fashion boot. If people wear them and treat them like a work boot they are going to fall apart. They are made from Horween CXL which is a rich soft leather that isn't meant to take a pounding. The Red Wings are made from a much stiffer more durable leather generally.

Which one to buy? If you're only buying one boot and that's all you're going to wear everywhere then get the red wings. If you're someone who has multiple shoes/boots in your rotation and you want something that you can dress up or down get the Wolverine 1Ks. The Wolverines will work much better in business casual fits than the red wings. Also the Leather will look beautiful especially after some patina.

Ordered my first pair a few days ago after contemplating for 5 years. Finally got sized for them today, turns out I do need a half size down, which is going to be a pain to find, but the properly fitting ones were the first pair of boots I've worn that felt like they fit properly out of the box. Also my favorite boot in terms of weight/traction.

Got a pair of Iron Rangers on sale for like $180. They're alright, not as comfy as my boosties but others seem to like them. They are built like tanks. They don't have as big of a clown look as some have been saying. The standard sole is shit in winter though, without a good sole they are as functional as flip-flops.

Nick's Boots, look into them. Classic boots that are actually durable and comfortable. Wolverine is a meme, Dr. Martens is the biggest meme, Red Wing Heritage is slightly less of a meme but still a meme, Chippewa is garbage. Danner is acceptable as is their recent buyout White's, though inferior to Nick's. Wesco is also up there.

I got a pair of these Oak Street Bootmakers Dainite boots (pic related)
They were pretty beat up and this thread inspired me to apply some wax to restore them.

The thing is, the wax I have has a matte finish, whereas originally they were pretty glossy.

How do I restore them to their former glory? Do I buy some other shoe polish, that has a glossy finish? Or do I need to cover them with something else after waxing?
