Start with putting in product while your hair is damp (not wet). Your gonna blowdry your hair up (like flipping your head upside-down or using a brush to hold the hair up) till it's dry. Then you're gonna take a comb or brush and backcomb/tease the hair, you can look up tutorials online if you need to. Once your hair looks how you want it to, set with hairspray and you're good to go. Also searching 80s hair tutorials will help a lot, because that's when big teased hair was at it's peak.
