I've been wondering about this too for a long time. They always have the advertisement posters featuring 'speed' in a very 90's way (colours, angles, etc.), as if they're appealing to an aging fan of The Fast and the Furious. The strange thing is that they're not watches that go well with formal wear....or normal suits. They don't look waterproof, so basically...it's a 'fun' but expensive watch. That doesn't cut it, at least, in this economy.

For a start I wouldn't risk using a donor movement that wasn't the same as the one you're replacing, who knows if it'll fit in the case, and if the spacer rings can be swapped, and if the hands will be able to be transferred.

So find the movement number, and when it was made and then go here

https://www.thewatchsite.com/13-ads-catalogs-vintage-current/16043-seiko-vintage-catalogs-1960s-1980s.html#/topics/16043?page=1

Download the catalogue that corresponds to when your watch was made and you should find numerous watches that use the same movement. Hopefully finding a working donor shouldn't be too difficult.

As an example my penis quartz uses a 5856 and is from 1978. The catalogue from that year shows 37 models that use the same movement.

Good morning wt.

The Slava transistor is an unauthorized copy of the accutron 214 made in the Soviet Union. Working examples with the original could and fairly rare; I've seen some people claim there are as few as three known working examples but I've seen at least two myself so that seems unlikely. Still, not too many. The Soviets had a great deal of trouble making the index wheels - the rumbling from nearby train tracks was enough to ruin production.

>> No.13902213

>>13902205
Not horrible. It runs about 30spd fast dial up and 12 up, and 40spd fast 6up. That's well outside regulation range for a 214, so it definitely needs a service - the question is whether anyone would accept it for service, given that parts originality is critical for a watch like this. I'm wearing it for the first time today so we'll see how its on-wrist performance is. I'll have to decide at some point whether to try to find someone who will service it.

Well, I hope you do find someone. Or, with a steady hand, you could risk doing it yourself. Not him, but the preowned Rolex market is kind of in a bubble right now. It's bound to go down fairly soon.

Also, you'd have to keep a Rolex for over a decade to really see qn increase in Value. Even then, most models are really just rising with inflation. The only ones that really accrue to insane prices are one-offs, former ugly ducklings, oddballs. Idk if most can be considered an investment.

However, I say if you have a good stainless oyster sports, and are thinking about pitching it, now is a great time. The market is ridiculous

Because the vast majority of people interested watches today don't know anything or care anything about objective manufacturing quality and craftsmanship. Watches for them are purely based on aesthetics and which brand identities they desparately want to associate themselves with. It's basically an entire hobby full of NPC apple fags.

Basically, most watchfags are absolute know-nothings who couldn't tell you anything about watches except the perceived brand status of the names of their faces based on forum fags circle jerking about them, and how much they like the looks.
