Is the whole "Real Punks (TM) don't have a fashion !" an American thing? Maybe it seems like there is much less of a unified punk fashion there, while in Europe you had designers, boutiques, magazines & catalogues catering to the style with photos, DIY guides, and even mail-order clothes, belts, shoes, political/band t-shirts, buttons etc. from the very beginning. Westwood's shop opened in like 1975? and was a big influence not only in the UK but low countries and France, Germany. People went to shows, saw how the bands and the crowd was dressed, and imitated it. It's also a little weird to talk shit about originality considering they were imitating 1950s rockers to begin with. Also "punk" or more accurately "new wave" style wasn't really limited to one music genre either, the basic stereotypical punk uniform shows up in electronic, heavy metal, noise, goth, and even synth pop music from the late 70s onward

I first recommend googling “diy punk clothes” to get some ideas of what you want to do.

I’ve started dabbling into diy clothing that’s punk inspired. You’re going to need scissors, sewing stuff like a needle and thread, fabric markers and whatever clothes you have around to get a feel for it and get some ideas.

You can take socks with holes and turn them into gloves or wristbands, take fabric markers and draw on plain shirts of whatever you want. Make a tank top by cutting off sleeves of t shirts.

You can also get patches and pins to put on these. Just remember that punk clothing is supposed to represent individuality and creativity so for the most part it doesn’t matter what shirts (unless it’s band tees), pins or patches you get as those things represent stuff you like and believe. Expect to be doing a lot of sewing and cutting with scissors. There’s a lot of things you can do with diy so just do some research and you’ll get ideas
