Good morning wt.

Finally got this running. The hairspring had jumped out from between the regulator pins. Coaxed it back in there and running fine.

The most accurate modern production wristwatches are rated 5 seconds per year, made by both Longines and Citizen. The Longines can be had for under $1k; the Citizen is a bit nicer for under 2k. Citizen also plans to release a 1spy watch in the next year or two; most HAQ collectors expect it to cost in the 5k or 6k range.

Hoptroff made watches with chip-scale atomic clocks (CSAC); they actually had tiny cesium-based atomic clocks inside. They were rated 1 second per millennium. Sadly he's stopped production so they're hard to find.

The turtle on the other hand looks retro and may work with my style better, and I've heard the cushion case is comfy af. They're both quite large but I've heard the turtle wears a bit small due to the nature of the case. Do you think I could get away with either with a 6.7in wrist?

Buyee has two but I can't really understand the translation and they're like £240 with a bracelet.
Guess I'll have to wait.

Okay, I said fuck it and got some Superluminova, and a new bezel insert is on the way. I don't care if vintage-austists sperg out that I bricked the "value" of an original-condition watch (it's a fucking quartz Pre-Bond ffs), part of a restoration process involves replacing old, worn or non-functional parts.

I didn't even think that something like this existed, but now that I think about it it makes sense. Being someone who usually just wears the g-shock 5610 out of convenience, because no winding, exact time, and the chronograph, I'm glad that I could finally find a watch which is essentially the same thing but smaller less construction worker looking.

It's essentially Casio A168WA-1 if it was solar powered from what it appears. It looks like a leaner version of the Casio, with less junk written on the dial. It's surprisingly difficult to find a sensible looking solar powered atomic digital watch. Most of them look bulky and stupid, hardly any of them have a simple and clean look. That's what strikes me about the Seiko sbpg001. What a pity it's out of print and was probably never in production that long. Common sense isn't that common.

This is a mean gem. I'm glad that I decided to look in this thread today. Ordered one on Ebay this morning.

Hey guys, just dug up my dad's old watches and was wondering if they're worth anything.

If I read correctly they read (left to right) :
1. Seiko 7800 - 5349 R (number 030453)
2. Seiko 5931-5200 (number 160063)
3. Darwil Execution Soignee 68 (159650 - 7041)

I assume the numbers relate to model number (and # each of those watches were produced).

I think Darwil one looks pretty nice and was considering restoring it.

>> No.13838861

>>13838848
Pretty sure he means natos and perlons etc

And for those the appeal is the simplicity and the security for the watch in the case of a spring bar failure.

Oh. In that case, the history of Nato straps goes to the military. The design is such that if one of the springs fails then the other spring will still hold it on. It still exists mainly because of the benefit of added security, but it could also have an aesthetic I dunno.

Seriously, the metal g shock goes for like 800-1000 dollars new. Do you know what kind of tech goes into it? It's basically the GW-5000-1JF with metal housing. That is a 300 dollar watch. Metal housing does NOT cost 500 dollars to apply instead of the plastic shell this watch normally uses. I would pay 500 dollars for the metal g shock, but as it is, right now it's milking you because they know everyone wants the fucking metal g shock. I paid 388 for the Seiko sbpg001. A bit much, in my opinion, but well worth it considering what this watch is, it's rarity, and the fact that there's literally no digital solar atomic watches with sensible, clean, simple dials besides it. Plus it has that retro 2001 Space Odyssey look, very cool.

Alright, here's how the dial looks with the original lume. As you can see at 12 and 9, the lume isn't exactly a perfect rectangle with sharp corners to begin with. This is at least the level of precision I need to reach with the relume. I already took off 2 and 5 as a test, and also cleaned the minute hand.

Also I don't mind it not being all cool vintage piss yellow anymore as long as it's bright in the dark.

I'm kinda burned out on mechanical watches. Way too expensive, they actually do have to be serviced, they always require setting the time and winding the watch, and there's not a whole lot of variety in terms of watches for smaller wrists, aka 40mm and under when you're in the market for anything that's not expensive.

Plus they all share an ETA movement, so I feel like I'm buying the same watch if I get something like a Tissot, Victorinox, Reinhart, Laco, or anything else you can get for 500 - 1000 dollars. And the only watch which was a decent diameter from Seiko was the Alpinist and they discontinued it. I have one watch with an ETA movement, the Christopher Ward Trident Bronze 38mm version, and one Seiko movement watch, the Alpinist.

I really want to get into electric power watches, because I feel like I have the best of the non-in-house movement watches. My budget is pretty much under 1000 dollars for anything I purchase.

Well, day date is definitely important, at least date if the watch is beautiful enough to justify no day/date. Water resistance of at least 100 meter. Sapphire glass. A battery which lasts more than a couple years (I know that that's a stretch to find any watch that has that and would drastically narrow the choices, so that's not essential). I usually like some shock resistance, but obviously it doesn't need to be a g shock or anything. Just so I know if I bump it against something it won't break. These are some of the specs I look for in mechanicals, all my mechanicals besides my chronos have shock resistance, but again, if the watch is unique and cool enough that's not essential.
