I received my bottle of ALD Russian Musk. I sprayed it on my neck and my wrists. I was immediately hit by this soft but fierce musk aroma and it smelled very good. Very brisk and forest-like. It was like standing in a snow covered forest surrounded by wild animals and a hint of soft warm florals. Very nice, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and the smell is just so intoxicating. The day I wore it I received a lot of complements from people and the one I heard the most was how it leaves pleasant clouds wherever I’ve been. I loved this. The best part is I applied it early in the morning and it was still going strong roughly 12 hours later. This fragrance is a work horse. One warning though showers do not wash this off. You will need to scrub it off and it might still stick to your skin, it must be the musk. Well worth the price, great stuff. Perfect fall and winter scent, it will definitely work in spring and summer as well. I highly recommend trying a sample and if you have the cash its a safe blind buy if you want to smell wild and smooth.

Hi guys,

I'm new and need some help.

27 and in college (engineering, career change), I look kinda nerdy (glasses) and have a beard, 6"1' (dunno if looks are important for this?)

I'm going shopping with my gf and want to look out for Dior Sauvage/Homme and YSL nuit. Can you recommend me something else I should look out for?

Also any suggestions for cheap everyday fragrances? The more expensive ones are too good for everyday use for me..

Besides that : EdT or EdP?

Gucci Pour Homme II is a great daily driver.

>>13825742
She touted the Parfum, which I haven't personally smelt, though I've heard it's like the Extreme with amped up with edgier leather. I don't really know what to compare it to (not familiar with that many pine scents, I guess Fille en Aiguilles but they're not that comparable to me other than a shared pine note), but I will say that it is very classy. Pine, fir, juniper, a bit of citrus for freshness, pimento (might sounds weird but it works so well with the pine and juniper), and nutmeg, all over a base of smooth suede leather, labdanum, and patchouli. Kind of a "cool" (temperature wise) fragrance that reminds me of an autumnal pine forest. Have gotten a decent amount of compliments on it and it performs pretty well on my skin. A good cop if you can get a deal. The parfum is a bit harder to come by though.

Sauvage smells like some axe spray.
YSL is sweet smelling like tonka or vanilla like, not saying it as someone who is particularly fond of sweetness but I prefer it out both. The Frozen flanker looks interesting.
The thing about YSL now is they are now owned by L'Oréal who apparently seek to water down the fragrances and milk the name brand and all their iconic hits dry.

It is easy, if we’re talking just the actual act of doing it. Just mixing your various ingredients in a container. It’s getting scents that are balanced and smell good that’s the hard part. That requires a ton of tinkering with proportions, combinations of notes, different variations of the same notes, concentrations, etc. You’re not gonna be able to buy some perfumer’s alcohol and essential oils online and instantly be a master perfumer or some shit.

it wont be the same or even close. But I will say this Russian Musk is for you if you want to smell like a wolf in a snow covered forest, probably standing in a small patch of flowers. I’ve been told it smells really good but one guy said it smells like an arab in the opening which is probably the initial musk or pine blast you get. I’ve come to learn its different everytime you apply it and some days its very musky and some days its very floral or very foresty. It never smells bad but it just keeps my nose guessing.

Yeah, but the whole point of Russian Musk is that they use the real thing. You can’t make a clone of something that’s entire thing is that it uses real, expensive ingredients without also using those same ingredients, which can’t be done cheaply. Of course you can get synthetic musk and oakmoss, but then it’s not a clone of Russian Musk.

You cant get a clone of russian musk because of the nature of the ingredients used. It was made by Russian Adam and he only made enough for 300 bottles so its unique to itself, only he knows what all went into it and what exact amount. You just have to get a sample or take the hit and risk the blind buy. No clone of this is going to ever do it justice or come close to it. Instead of wasting money on a clone just get a sample or save up and blind buy. If you’re a man and want a wild but soft musk you really cant go wrong with Russian Musk.

you seem like you’d be interested in Fort & Manle’s frags. Maduro is a really interesting fragrance. It smells like gold, fruit, rum, and sunken ship drift wood. It starts off as a strong harsh smell of rum but slowly calms down to a polished wood. Well worth a 4 dollar(?) sample from Luckyscent. Amber Absolutely from them is better but not as interesting.

I tried Penhaligons Roaring Radcliff today if anyone is curious. Definitely a must sample. Gingerbready and Soft with rose. Definitely good stuff. The price point might be a bit outrageous though because unless this is your favorite smell in the world there are much better smelling things out there. Definitely a good christmas season scent. It makes you smell like the gingerbread son of a rich gingerbread man. Your gingerbread mother splashes you with rose and witch hazel and your gingerbread dad makes you harvest his tobacco plants. Thats roaring radcliff.

So is 1 Million THE de facto teenager fragrance these days? That's disappointing, because I kind of like it. I tried one of the variants (Black? I can't seem to find it anywhere online) at a Macy's the other day and I really took to how sleazy and sweaty it smelled. Haven't tried the regular gold one though.
I'm reminded of Drakkar Noir. Very popular with all the highschool kids (when I was that age, at least), and was not looked upon very favorably by those that have more experience in fragrances. Is this line seen in the same light?

How do you ask for free samples? How do you even start?
Do you just go to the lady at Macy's, Sephora, etc and be like...
"ummm can I have a sample of D&G The One please"
would they be like "Here you go anon enjoy your free sample!" or "Fuck off you freeloading nigga, buy something before you can get a sample"

I feel if you tend to not overspray pretty much any fragrance you choose to wear is good. I've smelled 1 Million on a coworker who doused himself before clocking out and it was absolutely fucking nauseating. I've also smelled it on a college buddy of mine who wore 2 sprays under his shirt when we went to play pool once and it smelled absolutely fantastic on him. People will shit on Drakkar Noir because of the reputation of the wearer tending to overspray. But catching whiffs of it from somebody who minds the nozzle and it's a beautiful fragrance. Point is, don't fucking worry what people say about certain fragrances and wear it if you like it, just know how to wear it. For the sake of everybody around you.

Look interested. Spray some tester strips and sniff. Eventually somebody will come to ask if you need any help. Say no you're just looking and continue on your way. Now's the time to ask. Ask if you can take a sample home to test the fragrance for a few days. Sephora can give out 2-3 sample per guest without having to buy anything. If you buy they tend to give you a few more. Nordstrom is notorious for hooking a nigga up if you purchase a fragrance. I'm talking serious samples. I bought a bottle of Jazz Club once from there and the guy made up 8 samples for me and then gave me 5 more carded samples.

Macy's won't ever throw down with the samples unless you buy something in my experience. Super jews in the fragrance department there. Sephora are much more accommodating. Just tell any bored looking sales girl that you would like a few samples to try. They'll always say yes and probably make suggestions, which you should probably disregard.
