I want to start hiking but I don't have any idea about the kinds of gear I need. Does /out/ have a sticky-like resource

I live in CA and want to do overnight hikes

No sticky but plenty of gear threads in catalogue.
It's a slow board but you'll get good advice.

stupid crossie. unless you are going to be out in freezing rain or below zero temperatures for extended periods of time you dont need anything special. just get a pair of lug sole leather boots wax them with sno-sneal or some similar product and layer with wool. thats adequate even for someone going to a winter hike at their local state park.

most people here are not going to be climbing ice mountains or making an antarctic crossing that would trigger a need for gear. they are going to be walking to public transit or walking to and from their car for 10 minutes at most.

I'm planning to do a longer trip to Norway/Sweden and my gear is a bit lacking. (Max. budget for all items is around 250€/$280)
I'm looking for:
Good hiking pants
Good, warm inner layer (wool/fleece sweater etc.)

>> No.13807538

>>13807524

Where are you based?

A good 100% merino wool baselayer is one of the best items you can buy. Look for one in a heavier gauge (200+).
