Customer brought in a quartz shitter for a battery change, it turned out that a new battery wasn't enough, so I told him it would take some time to inspect it.
Turns out the gears were full of some gunk and wouldn't spin freely. I told the customer to leave it here and pick it back in a couple of days.
I proceed to clean the gears in ultrasonic and start to assemble the watch. The bridge wont go on. Continue trying to get the bridge on, no luck, it's like it was cursed.. After two hours I got fed up and binned the watch.
Fucking quartz shitters and fucking idiots who bring those to watchmakers.

from this thread: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f222/quick-strap-review-cork-portugal-859917.html

Update on my strap:
Worn the strap 4-5 times per week for ~18hour stretches for nearly two months. Daily exposure to water (hand washing), sun, and sweat (it's hot)-- overall the strap gets a workout. I have a "light with light stitching", pics are on the other thread.

ZERO signs of wear or degradation.
Band is clean and unstained.
Color has mellowed slightly.
As comfortable as my Sinn calf strap.
Easy to clean back to original sheen with damp, lightly soaped cloth.
Strap is compatible with Sinn deployant strap.
Verdict: Superb product at twice the price. Great alternative to canvas, synthetics, and miles above a leather in the price bracket. Amazing craftsmanship, great material, really cannot say enough great things about it.
Buy one and enjoy having something truly "yours".

Leather straps can make a watch look dressier or more expensive. A cheap Seiko 5 on a new leather strap looks much better for example. A Speedmaster on a metal strap looks like a tool watch but on a leather strap it looks more formal.

A metal strap can be put on and taken off more quickly and it's more resistant to wear. It's main benefit is you don't have to worry about it getting wet. If you want to shower or swim while wearing a watch, metal is the way to go because natos are just hideous.

I think this is a good guide and I appreciate that you took the time to make it. I do see a few flaws that you might consider updating. Why do you list the 7s26 as outdated on the skx but not on the seiko 5. With the seagull you might direct them to WUS instead of /wt/ but I respect your confidence in your fellow posters. Also perhaps it's above the point of the guide but isn't the value in that it's a column wheel not just that it's a manual wind chron. Surprised that you included tiger concepts here. Debatable that Yokobies is still the best seiko modder but that point aside if you're reading an imgur guide to pick your first watch you might not be comfortable emailing a guy in hong kong who's store is still just a photobucket account in 2018. Really like the selection and description for the digitals no complaints there. I see you threw a vostok on there but I think you might want to include either a generic 'russian dress watches' with a link to oatman's site a la your seiko 5 link, or alternatively do a few popular models like the poljot de luxe, Raketa Big 0, Maybe a Poljot 3133 etc.

Again great guide really enjoyed reading through it.

It is worth it at that price. My first watch was a 7s26 and I was very happy with it. Wore it for two years before I got anything else. You can find it cheaper if you're willing to wait and hunt around (two of that model sold on watch exchange for 60$ in the last 10 days).

Don't listen to those telling you to get out. These watches look comfy. The people replying to you in autistic anger fail to grasp that not everyone see timepieces the same way they do. Some people just want watches that look good and nothing else, for accessory purposes. Many ITT don't have the wit to accept that, in other words they have shit for brains.

Because the skx is outdated compared to orient mako/ray2 and seiko's nh35 divers. But seiko 5 doesn't have competition like that. (unless there are some new seiko 5 models with nh35 that I'm not aware of)

It's still a crap watch /in general/, but at that price Seiko is literally the best out there. So good pick, and they generally look a little more expensive than they actually are.
And for fucking 89 bucks who cares wear what you like, enjoy it.

Take my advice though, not every Seiko is fucking amazing.
Stick to the cheap shit cause it's the best bang for your buck, SARBs, GS, and the stupid popular ones.
