The watch has user-adjustable trimmers to adjust the average rate. It's not as big a deal in yahoo JP as it is on ebay. If everyone just bid whatever their max bid was, it wouldn't matter in any case, but on ebay you run into the case where someone might decide to bid a little higher if they see you outbid them; that's why you wait until the last second to bid, so they can't react to seeing your bid. On yahoo JP, bidding in the last five minutes of the auction extends the auction by five minutes, so your competitors always have the ability to react to your bid anyways.

>a Rolex in like 30 years it may become really hard to find pieces or to get it services
That seems unlikely. The 3135 is 30 this year and is still extremely easy to have serviced (it's still in current production watches, after all). The 3235 does have some more unserviceable parts than the 3135 but I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere close to unserviceable even fifty years from now.

maxi case is the single reason I hate modern rolex. you can tell it's been designed to reflect the proportions of something that wants to stand out and be noticed, legitimately gaudy to me. the fact that the bezel is ceramic is the biggest give away to this...how the fuck is it a good idea to put a material that isn't shock resistant on a watch? oh that's right, it's scratch proof so you'll never get a ding on your beautiful man jewelry. the older ones were clearly professional items made for people who wanted to pay a premium for something that would last them their entire lives, no matter where they wore them. maxi case just screams "we know you'll pay out the arse for this, because all the rappers and middle easterners are too"

>Does your hate for modern Rolex ruined vintage models for you?
no not at all. what ruins vintage models for me is the absolutely ludicrous second hand market that's only making it more difficult to acquire a good example of anything pre-1990. the prices are just too high. I was looking into getting a nice 1675 about 3 years ago (pic related) but unfortunately external circumstances put that off; at the beginning of this year i started to entertain the idea again and did some research, lo and behold what was once a 4-6K USD watch is now going for well above 10K. I understand how markets work, but fucking hell is it annoying.

if we disregard the market for a moment and just talk about vintage rolex in general, i think they're absolute stunners. the designs and proportions were absolutely spot on, and it's amazing to me that watches from as far back as the 50s can be found in immaculate condition and functioning perfectly, really a testament to what rolex has done. again part of the reason i prefer them is i remember a day when they were just very expensive enthusiast items, sort of like how an expensive camera is today, you pay a premium for real quality and the results speak for themselves.

Could one with no watchmaker knowledge build a diver with a decent movement sourcing parts from eBay for less than 80USD?

I often find NH36's on eBay for around 30$... Then I could just buy a cheapo watch with a decent case that fits the movement... I don't care for screw down crowns... Then a lumed Seiko dial from an SKX... and job done. This has to be possible, right?

Cheapnato straps suck ass. I bought three and I really think the quality and sizing is shit. The side of the leather strap is really low quality work because you can see the two layers have just been lightly glued over. The high quality was is to actually fold the leather on the top layer over the sides and use pressure to mold the shape. In China they can do this for straps that cost $4 to produce, yet these dirty fucking swedecucks are selling you shit for $10 at a 400% markup

One beefy boi.

Only it's not quite done yet. I still need to do something about the crystal, because it's badly scratched. Only problem is this is the same crystal that goes into the 6105 divers, so surviving NOS crystals are like $250.

Also the real problem for now is that the cannon-pinion is slipping, the hands stay in place more often that not. On top of that I have shit amplitude after service, but my guess is the slipping cannon pinion is actually braking the geartrain, as opposed to when it's coupled by friction properly. So it's like the movement is constantly being backwound.

Old-ass Arogno 152 from a 50-60 year old Cornavin. These were basic bitch sub-seconds movements, and at this age I thought it was going to be shit, but it does 290°-300° on the timegrapher, with a nice clean straight line.

Here's how it looks right. I'll let it run a few more days so the oils can spread.

These were originally equipped with a mainspring made from the old blue alloy that would have weakened completely by now, but at some point a more modern white mainspring was put in it by someone. Hence the pretty good amplitude.
