They advertise +/- 15 seconds per month but every report and review I have ever read gets far better than this. If you keep it wound a spring drive will probably do a min or so per year in practice. Considering you have to set it every 6 months for daylight savings time for the average faggot just setting it those 2x per year should be more than sufficient

The spring drive has no harsh ticking motion and is of course quartz and electric baked. I read somewhere that seiko hypothesized one could go 50 years without service but i can't find that right now. I have personally seen many 40+yo quartz analogs that have never been serviced running just fine

The fifty year service interval is for the 9F movement series, not the 9R spring drive.

Finished this tiny little gem, a Seiko 2205A hi-beat movement. Next to a Seiko 5 movement from roughly the same period for comparison.

I didn't put it on the timegrapher yet, but I'm kinda worried, this is a fifty years old 28800bph hi-beat movement, that I don't know how neglected it was.

Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing, this watch has been nothing but trouble.

I should have paid $5000 for a 42mm COCKS-certified chronomiturd, with 300m of water resistance in case I sink that deep in the local pool.

Got me thinking, why do they always showcase only expensive watches in movies and historical events?
Like why did the moon missions use omega speedmaster instead of a casio gshock of that era?
Why was newman wearing that daytona instead of a timex for example?
Why did the protagonist wear a expensive hamilton in interstellar instead of a common watch?
Why does that one black boxer wear hublot everywhere instead of casio?
In nearly all of these situations a cheap casio would be better since it is more durable, accurate and it is easier to replace. Especially when thinking about space missions or boxing, why do they have to have mechanical watches from a certain expensive brand?
Smells a lot like paid sponsorships at the cost of function for me.

Could one with no watchmaker knowledge build a diver with a decent movement sourcing parts from eBay for less than 80USD?

I often find NH36's on eBay for around 30$... Then I could just buy a cheapo watch with a decent case that fits the movement... I don't care for screw down crowns... Then a lumed Seiko dial from an SKX... and job done. This has to be possible, right?

Seiko 5 is a solid entry level mechanical watch.
Casio f-91w offers the most function per buck ever, that Timex is just a dirty fucking inferior homage to similar Casios, it is the same watch, but with much worse quality.
