In the US, old money tends to wear Timexes as a symbolic gesture with the approximate meaning of: "Fancy watches are for waiters and taxi drivers."

Is there an equivalent watch brand in the UK or continental Europe?

Or is the concept a little weird for European old money, which is quite happy to wear double-sided gold cufflinks and the like out of a stronger sense of tradition, without even looking at it as a flashy thing to do?

Nice, do Euros wear Barbours? I live in area with constant humidity and subways that Barbours are illogical choice compared to goretex although them looking really traditional.

I once gave a Italian brand waxed cotton jacket to a charity thrift store after knowing that...

The other anon almost certainly assumed he meant too long in the sleeve. An inch is exceptionally fixable in the sleeve. I own a tweed coat from the 1940s, two from the 1950s, two from the '60s, one '70s, one essentially new, most of them part of suits and most Harris tweed. They all have essentially the same cut of lapel, namely the one in Anon's pic. Men's tweed coats by decent tailors and OTR makers are pretty much untouched by fashion, certainly not by wild fluctuations. In my suits the main variation is the height of the waist and width of the leg. The '70s suit I had to have a tailor cut back because the trousers were enormous bags; one of the '60s suits is the slimmest and lowest waisted.

TL;DR tweed coats have broad lapels, that's just how it is.

The proper word for the top half of a suit is a coat, anon. A jacket is technically a garment that ends at the waist. Hence "sportcoat", for example. Calling blazers and suit coats "jackets" is sloppy burgerology which has unfortunately spread across the pond. Properly speaking, any skirted garment is a coat.

They're not overcoats if that's what you're asking. (I have a few of those too, of course.)

>proper word
It's not because nobody in 21th century uses 'coat' as a term for top half piece of suit whether some 19th century term originated from them or not. You are like insisting word like 'negro aborigines' in 21th century just because you love being contrarian.

Boat shoes are associated too much with fratfags though and literally every normie owns a pair. Buy camp/camp driving mocs instead, blucher mocs are nice too.

no one has worn actual boat shoes like that on a boat since the 90s
everyone nowadays just wears lightweight sneakers or sailing booties
