You twist it until it becomes hard to twist. You will feel when to stop. You could damage the movement. Especially the eta 2824s are easy to shit up that way, but if you don't go full retard, you won't damage the watch.

You don't, it has a clutch to stop it from getting overwound. Even so you should only wind it enough to get it moving, then your movement whilst wearing it should be enough.
ETA 2824s are known to eat themselves with too much handwinding.

Watchnigger here. I have this "friend" who's a fellow collector, mostly hunting garbage at fleamarkets, soaking the movements in naphta and wearing them till they break, or re-selling them at a decent profit (like reselling a $30 old shitter for $50 by taking it from one flea market from another). He and old guy who wears dirty sweatpants, and smells of ciggies, and babbles for an hour about old slavshit and busted up Doxas.

He drains my energy and wastes my time at work, but I like him because he's another passionate shitter collector (I know the girls in the store fucking hate him). Also he can source me slavshit donors for a reasonable price, so it's all good.

So the point is I just bought this Doxa from him, for bout $50. I don't normally collect Doxas, because they all look about the same, and you can't tell what movement is inside until you open it up. Now you'd think $50 is a bit much for shitty Doxas, but take a look inside.

Well, would you look at that. When I bought it the geartrain was almost completely seized from dry oil. Now after dripping some benzine on the pivots and playing with the adjustment arms a bit, this is the signal it produces. Of course now it's completely dry, so I'm still doing a proper service.

Also because I buy watches more to play around with the movements, servicing and repairing them, so I'd be pretty disappointed if I didn't have to do anything with it. Getting to wear them when I'm done is really just a bonus.

Here's one video.

An interesting quirk of the movement:
The seconds hand advances when the 1/20s hand hits 0/20, but the minutes counter advances when the 1/20s hand advances to 1/20. Not the exact same time as the seconds hand, but 1/20th of a second later.

With another cool feature: once the minutes counter hits 10 minutes, the 1/20s second hand stops to conserve power. It will travel to the current 1/20th second whenever the chronograph is stopped or split (split timer), then return to 0/20 when the chronograph is restarted, or reset.

Seiko did come up with a revision to the Kinetic, the Kinetic Direct Drive, which is basically a kinetic but with handwinding.
Not in that many models though.

About $180. Got it from a fellow collector in the local Seiko group. He focuses on collecting the 7A28, this one being a spare. Not too bad I guess... (these used to go here for about ~$100 or so)
It came with an original SQ clasp, being the Sports 100 export version, but not with the right bracelet. The guy's currently keeping an eye out for one for me though.

As far as I'm aware there is no watch where the energy storage is a mainspring, the oscillator is quartz, and the escapement is a stepper motor. There's no reason you couldn't do this, but it's not exactly clear to me how the potential energy in the mainspring would be converted to electric energy for the stepper motor and the quartz oscillator - spring drive solves this really neatly but in a way that doesn't really translate to the escapement being a stepper motor.

>>13689647
Sadly none, as far as I know.
Technically the Kinetic Direct Drives aren't exactly what you're looking for, as you mentioned, since winding the crown charges a battery, rather than winding a spring. But they're the closest, and most accessible thing for a hand-windable, quartz-regulated movement.
They seem to be mostly in the Seiko Premier line. Pretty damn pricey, honestly.

Their hi-beat movements are extremely well made, feature good levels of movement finishing for a series produced movement, and use MEMS to produce skeletonized driveline parts that reduce the power requirements and thereby the wear and tear on the movement.

Grand Seiko is also preserving a couple of vanishing watchmaking techniques as they are one of the only remaining makers to use complex inner terminal curve geometries on their hairsprings, and to still use regulated balances that require hand adjusting the geometry of the hairspring to really perform. Everyone else making high grade production mechanicals has switched to free sprung balances at this point, which require neither of these techniques.

GS external finishing is also some of the best you'll find on any series produced watch, though Rolex has better bracelets in terms of end link fitment and clasps.
