I was looking through Citizen's watches when I stumbled upon their Avion and I loved the look and yet it is a whopping 45mm.
Does anyone know of a visually similar watch that's more of a reasonable size, maybe 40mm or something?
Also I can't really go much further than $250 I guess.

Chronographs tend to be on the larger size. I have a 45mm Chrono, and it felt strange at first, but you get used to it.

If you really want a smaller chronograph, look for vintage ones. Chronographs from the 30s and 40s are really popular right now, and they tend to be a lot smaller, like 38mm, but they're pricy. Maybe a Chrono from the 70s will be what you want.

I have this.
Honestly I don't know why anyone would have any other wristwatch.
$16.50.
Metal strap is adjustable and never wears out.
Battery lasts years.
Watch runs a bit fast (maybe 1 minute per year), but I don't use it for precise time down to the minute anyway.
My previous one lasted 15 years, and honestly it probably wore out just because I stupidly kept it in my pocket a lot of the time, and lint got into one of the buttons and made it stop working.

I like them for what they are, I just wish they had slightly lower prices on their watches, because there is no heritage or significance with the brand itself, and they don't use in-house movements such as brands like Nomos, so the value of their watches is simply not just there for me. What is good about them is that they provide that classic pocket-watch aesthetic with a much lower cost than that of brands like Breguet.

Sadly there is a trend on /wt/ to have some irrational hatred toward some brands, and FC is one of those that /wt/ like to hate on. I have told them before that it is very irrational, and that they should not listen to retards like Archie, whose opinion I believe they have copied like sheep.

So you broadcast everybody that you are a fake person.
Everytime somebody will ask you about it, what will you say? Sure bro it's real? Than you get into an argument justifying why you spend this much money on a watch, while you too think it's utterly stupid, but you can't say that because than he knows you are wearing fakes and who would keep fake persons around?

So why even buy a fake if you don't agree that these watches are worth there money?

Just buy a homage if you want the same feeling for less money. They are very good for the prize and you don't wear some overprized fake shit some 7 year old vietnamese build and will propably fall apart in no time.

Quite possible, the 754x is really beefy for a quartz movement. I've worked on both the 6106 (predecessor to the 6309) and the 7546, but I never bothered to try and swap the movements in the cases.

Pic is the 7546 movement, minus the electronics.

Disenfranchised watchmaker, here.

Spent the five years working for a vintage restoration watch repair shop. Recently started working for an authorized Rolex service center.

Last week myself and a few other of the watchmakers here tested with Richemont to become authorized for their parts, tooling, and training. Most of our watchmakers passed, so our shop is certified, cool.

but I failed the certification. I'm not pissed off that I failed, I can retake the test, no problem. I'm pissed because of WHY I failed. for the test, we were each given a 2892 with parts deliberately sabotaged and broken. I chose to repair the parts, and they failed me for that. I scored 100% on functionality. the watch ran perfectly. But the parts that were damaged, they wanted us to replace, not repair.

that's where this industry is going. more and more movements are being developed for replacement only, no repair. new Rolex movements have mainsprings (barrel and all) that are discarded with every service. their silicon hairsprings likewise cannot be repaired. Eta is pushing the powermatic lines with replace-only escapements and barrels. Cartier lady's automatics now have the ENTIRE MOVEMENT replaced with every service.

Does anyone like this direction? It's more efficient and profitable, sure. but I'm irrational and I like fixing things rather than discarding and replacing them

This.

I'm working to make watches in China right now and it's clear that Chinese watch part suppliers can easily reach 80-98% quality finishing of the parts in the most expensive watches in the world. This is because supplier specialize in producing each part of the watch so they can produce better quality in a cheaper way due to assembly line production. This happens for every part of a watch. Meanwhile you have NPC cucks who actually buy in to the Swiss Watch propaganda and think there is some magic "value" in mechanical movements because ...? At the end of the quartz crisis the European brands basically said, we're not even going to try to compete with foreign countries because our GDP is too high so companies either vertically integrated or went ultra-luxury, which the whole concept of is based upon making Veblen goods, artificially limiting supply to boost demand and price.

It's really quite sad that companies are starting to go that way, and it's also incredibly short sighted. Much of the raison d'etre for mechanicals in the modern world is their long lasting and more handiwork based nature. Taking mechanical movements in the direction of disposability totally undermines that mystique and sets up production watchmakers for a potentially ugly surprise if engineered silicon oscillator movements ever become popularized.
