Mate, there's nothing timeless about this, on the contrary it's a very good example of an 80s suit. Timeless style does not exist, the best you can hope for is a style that accentuates your physique, silhouette and proportions.

You are maybe missing the point of a slightly loose suit. It accentuates freedom of movement yet it's not fashioned to conceal an unappealing physique. The excess of fabric correlates to a lifestyle of financial comfort and security. Skinny suit I associate with frugality. Aesthetically I just don't see how a tight fitting gimp suit is more stylish. Interesting approach, but in my opinion it still leans on excess, as you mentioned, the excess of fabric to communicate the excess of money. While that may be the intetion it is considered poor taste by everyone and thus damaging to the individual in the long run (see Trump's suits). A suit can be individualistic, signal money and accentuate freedom of movement without leaning on 80s stylistic choices, which are not only considered unapealling but also outdated. This said, if you like it go for it, know however that not everyone will perceive the elements you want to communicate in the same way as you.

That's not a DJ, it's just a regular velvet jacket except apparently with high grade (real) velvet. It's absolutely a casual item, it doesn't remotely have the cut expected of a smoking jacket – shawl collar, jetted pockets, frog closure, among other things.

Personally I think the main flaw of the cut is the autismally high notches in the lapel, that looks terrible. But it's definitely a casual piece.

That handbook is hilarious
You do all realize it's heavy satire right?
And that trying to dress like this if you aren't independently wealthy, comfortable and have a spot on the vineyard that you are just a fool right?
Hurts now but someday I'm gonna make it happen

New to the thread, sorry to point out the obvious
Thoughts on harrington jackets for fall?
What colors are most traditional/versatile?
Thinking navy, but is it too much of a spring jacket?

Where does Meermin rank on the dress shoe quality scale? I need a pair of brogued oxfords and suede derbies, they're much cheaper than say Cheaney, Crockett & Jones, even Loake 1880. What gives?

The best for their price range, they know what they are doing. Goodyear welted and great lasts, the leathers are obviously not the best you can get but still great for their price.

I love how modric perpetually had the least practical haircut for a footballer ever— long enough in the front that it covered his eyes, and longer in the back. Had his bangs been shorter it woulda stayed out his face, had they been longer he could've tied his hair back.

Still a fucking legend though and a fucking workhorse

Harrington jackets are great for the fall and spring. I guess winter too if you had no other choice because you can simply layer under it. I think the colors that stand out are best for harrington jackets like red, pine green, or royal blue because they are so far off from traditional chino colors like navy and khaki so you can get more versatility with outfits.

On pure objective quality they're not great but they're at a sweet spot for price/quality ratio for sure. They're better AND cheaper than e.g. Loake so a great cop in that sense.

>they're much cheaper than say Cheaney, Crockett & Jones, even Loake 1880. What gives?
They manufacture in Singapore instead of Northampton. That's the basic difference, plus they don't market to retail, just direct to customer, so they cut out the middleman and that saves money too.

>> No.13686125

>>13684114
I'd say that they are definitely of inferior quality to Cheaney, Crockett and Jones and Loake 1880.

Another cheaper brand to consider would be Orbans (French)

If you look closely at your jacket there are all the mainstays of a business suit and none of an evening suit. If there were only a few I would let it slide but I think you bought a velvet sport coat. Only occasions you could wear it would be suit and tie Christmas parties, holiday dinners, and Valentine’s Day, also good for Hugh Hefner on Halloween.
