Because they have no QC and are poorly finished even for the price they are at, and you're delusional if you think a chink can make a reliable 3135.

Fakes wouldn't be bad at all if they had actual QC and didn't have the brand name of the watch they were ripping off written on. I'm thinking about buying a ARFmariner and putting a genuine ETA 2824 in and sterile or custom dial.

Rolexes however have a certain modesty to them. They offer precious metals, sure but they also specifically don't offer exhibition casebacks because their paying respect to their roots as a maker of tool watches back when mechanical timepieces weren't just a luxury good. (Note here that I don't hate exhibition casebacks, I'm just using it as an example of the Rolex corporate philosophy that is more respectable than most in the luxury watch world)

Okay. I work as a quant on an equities flow derivs desk at a wall street bank but I'll crack open investopedia and educate myself I guess.

I assume your complaint is something along the lines of, "stock buybacks benefit all stock holders, whether they are holders who sell the stock or not, and CEOs are often levered synthetic stock holders through stock option compensation, and so buybacks represent a way to get their options in the money without actually producing additional economic value in the company, but just through synthetically reverse-splitting the stock", which is not a totally unreasonable complaint. That said, CEO (and other executive) option comp packages are generally made with the expectation that the options will go in the money, and the stock price in the market is generally diluted accordingly, so in all practical ways it's not so different from just holding levered stock outright.

I'm not sure what that has to do with buying and wearing expensive watches aside from "people think money is really important in our society and prioritize loudly having lots of money rather than focusing on what really matters" which, sure, coherent complaint.

Here's the hint that you're part of the problem.

I too know many rich people but I have not been wowed by their wealth.

My college roommate for instance is a lawyer in NYC making $300,000 per year. He's a decent enough guy but utterly miserable and overworked. He doesn't have enough time to be a human being so he buys things. He also neglects his girlfriend constantly and he's utterly unable to read social situations. He's what I would call the "working rich" a bad person mainly becuase he's had all that was human about himself beaten out of him by the desire to have "more".

Another roommate of mine on the other hand is a multimillionaire because he has inherited wealth from his parents who own a major retail chain in Vietnam. He has said to me things such as "A Tag Heuer is an okay watch for a young guy. Like 21-23. But if you still have a Tag after you're thirty you should kill yourself" Later he, along with another rich kid with saudi oil wealth told me they were going watch shopping on a whim with a limit of $2,000 so they could get a "decent watch" so they didn't have to take their Breuget with them on a safari.

I know, more mind you. These are just two fine examples of the main types.

I still wouldn't agree though that stock buybacks are "for" gaming executive comp. Companies aren't going out and buying back 30% of their stock in one go, and the overwhelming majority of corporate wealth is not synthetically owned by executives through option pay packages. The primary reason for buybcaks is to redistribute capital to investors so that it can be redeployed.

You could argue that shareholders shouldn't be entitled to all the profits of a company (say, the workers, or the government, or the local poor should get some), or that it shouldn't be the decision of the corporate board (generally not the CEO) when capital should be returned (though this seems like a really weird argument), but those are entirely different arguments. And in either case, I don't think it relates to the original issue - the thesis "owners of capital should decide how the capital is deployed" is different from "it is immoral to spend money to purchase luxury goods when so many have so little."

Prejudice. You have adopted the very common but completely irrational idea that rich people are less human and that they are bad because this or that. You know a couple of rich guys who do something you disapprove of, ok I get it. But whether you admit it or not, you know a ton of poor or middle class people who do things you disapprove of too, for example neglecting one's girlfriend which is something people from all classes do. That's because people are not perfect whether they are rich or poor. For me tho, I have no real life experiences of the behavior you talk about. The rich people I know are upstanding people who are good.

This is a really hilarious response.

This is why it's obvious how fragile your ego is. You have all this money (according to yourself) and yet you are being upset because someone is offering a criticism of your value system. But if your value system was correct, you wouldn't care what I, an utterly anonymous mystery person, have to say. Yet you still feel the need to try and diminish me with the worst insult you can think of according to your value system (being poor).

It really underlines the problems with your whole worldview.

No no no, not less human. Just worse people. Often the worst people are in fact the most human. Oh no, Anon. There are many many things wrong with Rich people including and especially an almost Universal lack of taste.

>>13667528
It's not just people with inherited wealth, to be clear. There are plenty of people that honestly did work hard and then became rich that are completely out of touch and moronic. By the middle of their lives they start to assume there was some divine cosmic justice at play that made them rich because of a natural tendency in their person to be better than everyone else. These people are often as bad or worse than rich people that have always been rich.

>>13667630
I think they're very nice but that doesn't make them any less obscene and if you truly decide to spend 15k on a three hander you're a really bad person.

He's not an aesthete, he's a fucking deskworm that is so committed to spending thousands on tasteless watched that he wanted to samefag responses revereing his choice. He may not even have the money to buy it and is just LARPing being a rich person with no taste.

I appreciate fine engineering but ask yourself, does "fine finishing" and the use of precious metals actually add anything to the mechanical value of the watch? No. It means if anything that the buyer is sure to only wear the watch 3 days a year.

not the guy you are arguing with but I guess I was born in a kinda similar situation.

My dad works for Audi as one of there top managers. He works 80h+/week and earn a lot. I have no clue what his job is, because he is not allowed to talk about it.
So I was very used to luxury my hole damn live, my mom cooked two meals every day, they are driving the newest cars all the time.
I was used to go out for dinner twice on the weekend to exclusive restraunts and shopping tour on saturday.

Yet I turned out to be to complete opposite. I don't care for new expensive stuff, I only went to secondary modern school and starting working in the metal industry afterwards because I never wanted to earn much money, because I saw my hole live that my parents have a lot and yet they are unhappy. I don't care for expensive stuff, since I earn only 37k/year but this is still awesome because I only do 36h/week. I don't care if someone is rich or living on the strees, I hate all people equaly.

My parents don't give me any money, I live together with one of my best friends and my girlfriend and pay the bills on our own. I ride my bike to work, because I don't want to drive my car unnecessarily and never go out to eat.
I have almost no funds because I am shopping addicted and spend almost all my money on vintage watches and knifes.

My sister however is abusing my parents to the max. She goes shoping twice/weekend paid completely by parents. She travels of to other countrys for holiday, also paid by parents. She only wears designer stuff and would never go out of the house with no makeup on. Got a new car 2 years ago and allready started complaining she needs a new one.

>I hate my sister

So I kinda lost my point here, I think what I was trying to say is, that money is ruining a lot in this world, yet there are wealthy guys who stay on the ground, not falling for the expensive meme.

It's a dive watch. It's meant for diving. The reason the markers are big is so the lume can show the time while diving. The reason there is a pip on the second hand is so you can make sure the hands are moving in the dark under water.

Also there is a very nice strip on the knob you use to wind the watch, this strip lets you know the knob is screwed down after winding so you don't go in the water with the crown loose.

These watches are for active men who are PADI divers, not for wearing with skinny jeans

It's here /fa/! My luch 2209 came earlier than expected.

This is a sexy watch. The case is in good condition, no scratches, and it is a great size for this. Seems to be in good mechanical condition, as far as I can tell. Skipped a few seconds at first, but now that I've let it run for ~10 minutes it's fine, so maybe just needs to be wound a little less. Overall, I'm REALLY happy with it. One complaint is that its pretty noisy, kind of like the weekender just maybe not as bad.

The help getting established is the point here. I have another great example. My mother and her three siblings all complain about Taxes and the Gubment and Unions but my grandpa was a union boss at a factory in the 1950s when he had them. He and my grandmother were able to put all four of them though college without them incurring any cost whatsoever due to the fact that they had good paying union jobs and a pretty substantial social safety net from my Grandpa's military service. Of course, if you might ask them about wether they think they got help or any lucky circumstances in life that helped them get where they are now, they would largely say no.

Notice all of your picks are wrist shots. Watches look like shit in unnatural "ebay" light, exactly why people ask for wrist shots.
