it is also the most functional fashion assessory (just about) a person can wear and if you lurk these threads you will see that there is very little correlation between what people will like here and compliment in this general and cost

Movement is as it turns out the really fucking goofy Arogno 260. The most shocking thing about it is that since the mainspring click is on the dial side and not the usual top side, the ratchet wheel doesn't do anything, it's just there for decoration. Fucking hell.

There's the real ratchet wheel, next to the letter A, as part of the rocking arm of the keyless work. Farther away, above the 260 is the click, on the dial side. The ratchet wheel on the top side just goes nowhere, it's just there to make the movement look like it's more advanced that it really is! In an age when display casebacks didn't exist!

What is this lunacy?

Hey lads, i'm having trouble maming a choice here as i want to make the correct one,
>want a watch
>cant decide between the options
>black dial/gold case
>black dial/rose gold case
>white dial/gold case
>off white dial/rose gold case
>brown leather for all options because no black shoes

I want something to be able to wear as an everyday watch, but can dress up for a night on the town, or for ceremonies. Whats the best choice here?

what complication? is it with a clean dial? For an everyday watch yellow gold with white dial works the best.
Black dials work very well with rose gold, imho, but they look very weird during the day. I saw and old man the other day wearing a Tissot Le locle in rose gold/black dial, and even the watch was really nice, it looked a little off with his blue jacket and white shirt.

13641701

>>13641674
Depends how they break. Many of them are jeweled, high quality movements. The weak point in my experience has been the day and date wheels, which can fatigue. Aside from that, and damage caused by leaking batteries, water damage, or other corrosion, I would expect them to be pretty reliable. The rate will drift over time - quartz watches have a poor long-term Allen deviation due to the way the crystal ages - although many 70s penis quartz models have user-aduustable rate trimmers.

Well yes. I believe the trimmers are varcaps that change the properties of the LRC circuit the quartz crystal participates in to change the resonant frequency, though I'm not 100% sure. The twin quartz models have two trimmers, although trimming the auxillary crystal is supposedly pretty difficult to do right.

I bought the blue because I really liked the dial.
Then the white because it was prettier (I should have get the real SARB065)
And then stopped at the brown because it was enough.
So there you go. 3 mistakes.

I bu F91ws for fun. If I set up alerts to bid on them on ebay I can get them for about $7.50 each delivered. I buy them when I can get them super cheap and give them to friends, my friends know I am into watches so I wear my f91 on a nato a lot and tell everyone how Osama bin Laden and also President Obama used to wear one. Then I give them one as a present. I have 3 friends who wear one regularly now. One of them is literally a millionaire, my boss's son, ha. thanks! IMO you can wear a submariner all the time and tell people how cool it is, but even from a selfish perspective if you wear an f91 and tell people how cool it is, then if the person shows a little interest and you see them again and you say "I was thinking of you so I got you one" and give them one as a present they will think better of you for being nice than they will even if you have a $10,000 watch.

When I quit drinking I went to therapy and they taught me how to be nice to people IRL there, so I try to do that. I do it selfishly though so people will like me, I am not actually just by nature a nice person.

Hi /wt/, I've never really browsed here before but I need some help. A few years ago somebody bought me a Seiko 5 with the black face as a present - I really like it, it's not too big (I have quite skinny wrists), I like the way it's mechanical, and not overly chunky (like some dive watches) or complicated (like pilot or flight watches or whatever). However, the strap - just a black nylon one - is a bit rubbish. The holes are getting ragged, and the end isn't smooth so catches on clothes and can fray cuffs of knitwear. It can also get a bit hot in the summer. So, I'm asking for recommendations - either for a decent medium brown leather strap, or a cloth strap, I think either black or an olive/khaki colour. Any good places to buy in the UK for these?

This is the disposable generation. No one buys for longevity and commitment anymore. I imagine these guys' worst nightmare is receiving a non rolex from a loved one. What worth does it have if not for resale value?

I'm of the opinion that you buy what you like and you keep it for as long as you want to. Don't fucking buy something with the sole intent of keeping value. Planning for selling it is just planning on selling it. BUT if you happen to want something that keeps good value, say like Rolex, then go for it. More power to you.

Also wondering about the movement. For chronograph I could go with a cheaper Miyota to keep the price around 200ish or I could go for the better seiko VK63/VK64 for a 300ish price. I’m pretty sure they use the same supplier but the guanqin is the factory brand and feice is buying them wholesale. Chinese supplier like to make 10-12 dollars LOP (profit per watch) on wholesale whereas retailers like to make 150ish dollars on a watch if they buy it for 5-20ish dollars. So guanqin is probably making only 25 profit per watch

Absolutely yes. In the quartz crisis it became clear that Swiss watch assemblers and even movement manufacturers couldn’t compete on price with Asian produced quartz watches. The result is that many Swiss manufacturers that produced affordable mechanical watches like universal Genève went out of business or were acquired by groups like the swatch group. Since the everyday man demographic was obviously going to buy seikos and other Asian watches the Swiss watch groups invented ultra-luxury in watches. They increased the price of their movements and watches tenfold and since the groups owned the Swiss movement manufacturers, they stopped selling Swiss movements to other companies in order to make the Swiss watch mark more exclusive.

There are a lot of microbrands doing vk64's too, but they're all around the 300 dollar mark which is honestly a lot of money for some very shit, amateur self made designs.

You're also competing with the seagull 1963's, I don't think there's anything you can do there besides offering a non oriental dial and a cheaper movement to service

My advice, get it around $180, steal a dial design directly from the vintage watches you have collected, keep it brandless, don't fuck it up with fake patina. If you can do this I believe you will have a lot of happy customers, shift a lot of orders, and make a bit of money. Offer the option to buy the watch without the strap too.

Pic related is a dude in Korea offering a stolen brandless dial design with a good movement, good case, at a good price, I would call him a success story.

I can't wait to see what you come up with, get in there bro.

they did in ultra-luxe retail. Prior to the quartz crisis the upper-class would have watches bespoke made by watchmakers or jewelers who could easily purchase the parts from independent swiss manufactures and manufacture their own casings etc.

Now you dumb cunts are paying the old price of a bespoke watch for a factory standard modern day rolex or patek phillipe because you think it makes yourself seem upper-class. Limited edition runs are the worst because they are just an invention to inflate the price of factory made models by doing them in a different color scheme.

The people who push shit like "save to buy a rolex" or "cheap watches make you look poor" are fucking morons. Real rich people don't give a fuck what happens to their watch because they arn't as dumb as you are to spend 3 months salary on a fucking watch you poor nigger.

Brands like Patek, Audemars, LeCoultre etc have always produced thousands of watches a year since the industrial revolution.

>who could easily purchase the parts from independent swiss manufactures and manufacture their own casings etc

watchmakers have always used ebauches, used even more so today... what does that have to do with anything?

Mechanical watches have been mass produced since the late 1800s. The major difference now is the swiss don't bother making cheap mechanical movements. Its a pure luxury industry.

I don't know what point you're tying to make.
