How much would it cost to send some Chinese manufacturing company a plastic f91w case and ask them for the same thing just in stainless.

They make fucktons of cheap low production run parts over there, if you just wanted 10 of them could they do it for $10~ each?

It seems like being able to send them a destroyable exact dimension sample of exactly what you want and not having any real stress or industrial requirements for the finished product would make it super cheap and easy for them right?

I'd assumed it was a faceted crystal but it's not, it's a flat, stepped acrylic. The date quickset (sadly no day quickset) is fun - you turn the crown while it's fully pushed in. Running +15spd currently; hopefully that's consistent and can just be regulated away.

What does that really mean though. There are so many people who are so expert at every little part of setting things up and development that is kind of like saying "I am a full car developer" when really it's better to have a team of guys who work on designing the engine, a team of guys who work on the chemistry of the paint, a team of guys who work on the design of the body of the car and a team who know how to build a good tire.

The case was quite tall due to the vertically-oriented balance. Like all transistorized electronic watches, the timekeeping was still done by a hairspring. However, since the watch was powered by a battery rather than by a mainspring, there was no concern around isochronism, which often allows electronic watches from the period to be adjusted to quite impressive tolerances. In this watch the vertical orientation of the balance does change the effective positions that are most important to how the watch keeps time on the wrist.

transistorized electric watches were very popular in the 60s as a transitional electric watch. It was easy for watch manufacturers to retrofit their existing movements to be electric; often just the balance and escapement had to be altered. This is a 36k bph Citizen Cosmotron electronic watch.

You can see the magnet that was part of the balance in both that webm and, to some extent, this webm of a 43,200bph cosmotron 5800. The 5800 was primarily used in ladies watches and was at the time (and for a long while after) the fastest-beating commercially released hairspring-regulated watch. One thing to note though is that the escapement used in these watches is fairly different from that used in traditional hairspring watches. Instead of the mainspring driving the geartrain and the escapement stopping it, in these the escapement pushes the geartrain forward - in some ways, it has more in common with the escapement design (index wheel and pawl) of an accutron tuning fork watch. As a result, the geartrain is not under constant load the way it is in a traditional mechanical watch, and so wears much less quickly, which is also a factor in allowing the much higher beat rates. The different escapement design in the cosmotrons also means that the second hand only advances once per complete oscillation of the balance, so from the front the watch looks like a 21,600bph watch in terms of how smoothly the second hand advances.

World Time, 5 alarms, Countdown timer that you get to immediately with the button on the left. The little sub dial is used for the countdown timer so you can just be on normal time while its going, when its done an alarm will sound. All time setting you can use the crown for. Other minor things like 24hr time or whatever.

It's a GA400 which there is a bunch of.
That model superficially is GA-400CM-1A
you can get it for 96 on ebay which is where I bought it. I think it came out in june or july, it's meant to be part of their rasta series despite the fact they used a pale blue instead of green.

it's a tudor and I don't live in NY or California or any other big city full of people who care about brands

i will never run into anyone in my daily life who knows what tudor is or will think anything of me wearing it as a brand or ask about it, i just like the way the watch looks and don't feel like paying $5000 for a watch when I can have an ETA fake for $200 that is just as good in all daily situations

Not coincidence. More expensive watches look nicer than cheap watches. Fakes are very good value for quality:price.

I'm saying the zeitwerk is digital. Follow the reply chain, it's not hard. That said the time is displayed digitally on that watch, even if it's just two discs with the digits on them.

Are you saying this is a digital watch because it has digits on it?

A digital watch is one where the time is indicated by displayed digits that jump, not one where you read the time based off an analog scale which is indexed by digits.

The time in your pic is read by the hands, which makes it analog. If there are no hands and the time is displayed as digits, then it's digital. This is really not a hard concept m8.

Agree. I love watches and I own a few expensive ones but I have my own limits. Unless you are a millionaire, I cant justify spending 100's of thousands on a watch, it's just not in my personality. That money could be spent so much more practically, more usefully, or even on a multitude of awesome watches. Law of diminishing returns. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be in this position.

So true, this watch is chunk as fuck and I would have never thought to own it until I wore it. Then I kind of realized that the way they designed this watch, this size was the result of the effect they wanted. Do you know what I mean? Like it really fucking works. Sure, some days I think it's huge, but most days I love the way it wears (truthfully, it only really works if you aren't like a twig wrist).

But I agree, I love the design and presence so much, if it was scaled down like even 10-20%, it would be bang on my perfect GS diver (not that it isn't already)

The time on the Nixon is also read by a hand. The fact that on the Nixon a dial rotates under a fixed hand rather than a hand rotating over a fixed dial doesn't change that.
