sup /wt/

You guys helped me get this $200 watch for $42

So I figured I would post it here at a discount for what I could really get for it to be a bro. No reserve, but i set the start price for what i paid for it. I put the buy it now $30 less than what I see NOS ones go for but if you want to trade something or can convince me to lower the buy it now because reasons, I'lll listen. Free shipping. Can confirm it's in perfect condition with no strap cracks. Would like to sell it to someone who will do something with it and post pics

pls no bully

OK fine, I have a NOS spooky watch I got off ebay for $42 because someone here trolled the seller. (not me)

I have no use for it, and my gf wanted another watch. I actually don't mind letting it just sit in a drawer though for $42, they go for $200 right now.

How much should I sell it to you guys for to be a bro?

I can't be bothered to pack it up for less than $10

I've been having a bit of a run-in with my parents the last few days, /wt/. I finally found a place I can move out to, that's pretty good and roomy for one person (I can set up at least three workbenches, one for watchmaking, two for hobbies of my choice). I can move in about a month.

It's supposed to be a really good deal, and everyone I know says I should take it, apart from my dad, who went harumpf-harumpf for "some" reason, and decided this is wasted money, and I should wait two more years, so I can take out a 20 year loan and buy a house.

Problem is I'm three months away from 30, I ain't got any more time. What parents don't actually want their almost 30 year old child to finally leave? it's fucking bizarre.

Last week I found some old Venus chronograph movement among my stockpile of old donors, I'll try to look up tomorrow, on exactly what caliber it is, how complete it is, and if it's worth restoring and casing it into something.

It's a Landeron 51 (pic). Simple cam and lever, horizontal clutch. A real workhorse. Only weird thing about it is that the top pusher is start only, while the bottom pusher handles both stop and reset.
Considering it's a Venus, it might be a cal 175, those things were ubiquitous. And I do believe Seagull makes a clone with the same tooling, the Seagull cal. ST19. If it is a cal. 175 you might be able to source any needed parts from a cheap ST19 donor.

From around the late 60s or early 70s, judging by the T Swiss T tritium dial. No reference number unfortunately.

I didn't get a good look at it, as I was in a hurry, but it had a huge Venus logo on top of the balance cock, which is sorta unusual. Just like on this V170 in the pic, but like I said I don't know what movement it is.

As far as I heard, (and what statistics I could find) mostly it was mostly bum drugs, like sniffing glue, paint thinners, opiates, drinking on painkillers etc.

Like I said it's what I heard, mostly from the military history/plastic modeling circles I used to be in, thankfully conscription ended a few years before I got to that age. Soldiers were absolutely bored, since the government were absolute fucking cheapskates with the army after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. And since doing anything with the equipment and gear costs some money, the easiest solution was to not do anything at all. Also suicides were rampant, soldiers kept blowing their brains out in guard posts, since that was the only time they were handed a loaded rifle.

Thanks! I picked it up on impulse for a song a few weeks ago (like ~$250). It only came as-is, head only (not even the bracelet), but it's fast turned into my favorite beater. As pointless as it is functionally, the compass bezel looks hella cool, and the GMT hand is useful for tracking the company's home time as I work offshore. Used to hate on quartz, but being able to just pick it up and put it on without worrying about setting the time or winding it is. convenient

I originally had the snakeskin strap on it like in the earlier photo, but it was kind of weird to have a formal looking strap on what is essentially a tool watch, so I ended up reverting back to the nato strap I had it on.

Sounds like a hellhole compared to Finland, but just for perspectives sake i'll listen some negative things in no particular order:
>moldy barracks, everyone gets a flu that lasts till the day they get out of army, some get sent home with a order to come back in 2 years
>no proper water supply in the barracks, you can't take a shower at the rush hour when everyone is taking a shower because the water pressure is too low, so you'll have to wait or figure out a time when they are mostly empty
>incompetent doctors, 95 % of the cases you don't get treatment and just a pill and a day off no matter what you have, I had to wait 5 weeks to see a doctor when I had a broken rib during battle drills, doctor thought it was lung cancer and sent me to the central hospital (was scared as hell)
>no possibility to wash yourself, your dining equipment or clothes in drills, you can spend 5 days without the possibility for that during drills
>food during drills is 10 % of the food you get in barracks, so many take their own food with them
>drunk regular officers who hate their job and only do it so that some people think they are tough guys (around 20 % at least fit to this category)
>said officers will get drunk during drills and and have the conscripts wait for them in formation for hours for them to arrive in the morning while they cure their hangover
>there is pretty much no way for a regular officer to get fired in here, once you are in, you get to keep your job no matter what you do
>no clear logic anywhere, one day the unit may be punished for something and 99% of the men have no idea why it is so
>hatred between branches that stems from the regular officers too making some conscripts second grade in all other eyes
>civilian workers at the barracks who for what ever reason their the conscripts like shit, way worse than most regular officers
This is all I can remember for now, and it is fucking Finland.

The bottom line though, is that you'll have to accept that to keep your $6000 watch running, you'll be stuck with going to someone who will be replacing parts with either aftermarket, or used parts they manage to find. In the long run, your watch will be considered "not authentic" or even counterfeit.

If you just had one or two busted up subs or whatever, and you sold the parts on Ebay, I doubt they would go after you. But if you made a backroom business of buying new Rolex's and parting them out to watchmakers, I think they would have a problem and try to hit you with some expensive legal paperwork.

I'm not a lawyer, I could be talking straight bullshit, I hope some anon on here knows more than me and can shed some light.
But I do know for sure that Rolex works VERY hard to maintain their integrity and industry cachet. They control the sale of their products and parts in any possible way they can. And again, there are international laws tied into it.

i mean the nomos is 3-5x the cost of a form a, has an in house movement, better finishing, better straps etc. they aren't really on parity to compare.

junghans are great if you want a bauhaus watch with decent ETA movement and your budget is sub 1k - the form a is beautiful although i'd get one with hour indicators.

if you're comparing ones on price parity i'd prefer the tangente over the max bill chrono.

Mechanical watches are for insecure faggots who are desperate of validation from other people.
They are also for people who like /fa/ more than /g/ since they always give emotional reasons for owning mechanical watches.
Swiss mechanical watches are the epitome of the mechanical watch autism pandemic and hold no real technological value, other than pointless finishing and the price of said watches is just a marketing and branding concern.

Consider the Citizen Chronomaster line if you are down with quartz.

>whats a swiss/german inhouse movement watch under 3000.
There are no new true in-house Swiss or German watches at that price, as believe the in-house Damaskos, Nomos DUW movement models, and in-house Tudors are all ~$3,200 - $3,500 and up.

>Also, is Nomos good?
Yes, but be aware of the trade-offs. Long lugs and simple cases/dials/hands in return for more movement finishing than anyone near the price, and great thin in-house movements.

I'm quite seriously considering a Max Bill Mega actually. Really cool movement, and one of the only well made, classically styled, radio atomic sync models out there.

You'd be better off either buying a Seiko MM300 or equivalent near-GS diver in that price range, or moving up to $3,500 - $4k and considering the in-house Tudor BB58 or Pelagos.

I don't have a recent full collection shot, sorry. I'll try and take one soon.

How's that SBPG001 treating you?
