How hard up for funding is this dept. that is trying to hawk busted up Seiko's?

Don't buy that G757. You can't repair that screen, and you'll never find a replacement. You'd have to rip apart a good G757 and put it in the case. Point is, just snoop around for a G757 that isn't wrecked, and pay the extra that you would have had to pay anyway.

>> No.13627560

>>13627546
Wait, I misread a lot of that.

For 25 for the lot, that's not a bad deal actually. But you won't really get anything for a potentially busted G757 module. I doubt you'd get a lot for the case, you could maybe sell the bracelet? If you ever made money back on that 25$ lot, it would be minimal, barely worth the effort of buying it imo, if you're trying to make money. If you're a watchmaker looking for potential spares, definitely

Still though, they're trying to sell busted up Seiko's?

Depends on how much you're into watches.

If you really LOVE watches, only the best will do. Get a decent $500 japanese quartz and save for a good steel sports watch. Build a collection slowly from there.

If you think mechanicals are cool, but could never possibly envision yourself spending $4000+ dollars on a wristwatch, the Seiko 5 is fine. Maybe get some decent German microbrand mechanical down the line.

Depends on how you define 'good' for a fashion watch. You can't rate them based on the same points as you would a real watch. Frankly I'd just score them on how good they look.

Women's fashion watches that at least have decent designs include Anne Klein, Kate Spade, Fossil. Michael Kors, Gucci, Guess, etc. most certainly do not.

It's pretty basic bitch, but the bottom line is Seiko has been around forever and makes a product that's good and affordable

Rolex is mostly marketing but the quality is top notch, and they're designs are very versatile.

Patek is top notch in their range as well. They've got a lot of history, and the best cred, even though Breguet came first.

Both Rolex and Patek have the best resale in the business. If you need a Kidney, and quick cash, you can flick it for pretty close to what you paid for it.

This is sort of a funny question. Fashion watch as it's used here and in other online forums effectively means bad watch. When something is called a fashion watch by watch enthusiasts it's meant that the watch is meant solely to look good and it has no horological value. Over time first certain styles and then whole brands (skagen, D Wellington, etc) have collectively been called fashion watches. And now that the definition has shifted from bad watch to x brands it's possible to ask a question like 'are there any fashion watches that are good'

I'd say a 'good' fashion watch would be the Invicta 8296OB, especially when it gets discounted down to 40$

I've never understood Ball's status as one of the only mechanical tritium watch manufacturers, and their dressier aesthetic. Tritium seems like a good match for field watches, not dressy moonphase watches. That said, Ball is fine, but obviously you're paying a tremendous premium for tritium since it's so scarce in watches today. I wouldn't consider it worth it.

Sorry a minor point in his argument on an anime forum didn't please you.

>>13628741
I at least found this insightful. Though I don't find one watch arguments persuasive. I mean yeah if I had to wear one watch for the rest of my life it would be a diver. But I don't and I think looking at watches that way encourages reductive thinking and values versatility above other aspects. I want my dress watch to look good in a business setting and I want a tougher watch I can take out and not worry too much about. I think in some way the elegance of a dress watch, it's specific purpose, it's lack of versatility all contribute to its mystique. It's like the nice china that you save for when you have special guests. If you ate off those plates every night they wouldn't be as valuable to you. If you had to have one set of plates for the rest of your life you'd probably pick some versatile neutral colored crockery. That doesn't mean that your grandmothers' china is less valuable.

I think implicit in your argument is the idea that if you're operating on a budget you're only going to buy one really nice watch so you better pick one that you can wear a lot. For myself, I'd rather spend the money on a nice dress watch and then spend significantly less on a tool diver. How much less depends on your budget of course. Maybe you spend 1200 on a Nomos and 200 on a Seiko. Perhaps you spend 20K on JLC and 4K on a Tudor.

I'm someone who treats my watches roughly. I work with a chainsaw on weekdays and I work with my hands on weekends. Knowing that, I save my money for dress pieces that I can enjoy and savor. Perhaps other posters would rather have one watch for all occasions. In that scenario, I agree that JLC isn't the way to go and that a Rolex is more versatile. For me I'd probably go with a Tudor GMT or maybe an El Primero but it's a question I've devoted little thought to.

I don't know if you are joking. But I hate the people that go "oh man, I wish this JDM watch was in america, too bad" or a dude starting off the video will say "unfortunately this is a japanese only watch". Maybe I am wrong, but isn't this whole hobby pretty much an online only thing for the most part? you click twice and have it, JDM is meaningless. Hey watchfuckers,
My name is Rakesh, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are intelligent, well educated, successful who spend every second of their day wearing and enjoying genuine wristwatches. You are everything I am jealous of in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten a replica? I mean, I guess it's fun making fun of people whom actually bought a replica watch instead of an actual watch. This is even worse than spending time learning about horology.
Don't be a tgv-fag. Just hit me with your best accuracy rating. I'm just a few seconds over 1 minute a day. My fake watch even has a fake chronometer certification. What watch do you wear, other than high quality Japanese timepieces? I also get mocked by my friends and even my grandma (She just laughed off my BB; Shit was SO degrading). You are all horology masterminds who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.

some chronographs are cool if they're not too loud, but i like clean and simple.

I'm aware this is a list of memes and shit tier watches, but it gives an idea of what case design i like and dials i like.
the explorer looks sexy but i don't like the raised crystal.
i'm a wristlet at 6.5 - 6.75" so dont want anything to big

I only want to spend a few hundred dollars max for my first purchase.

Any recommendations?

If you're gonna have a fake rolex you gotta be real careful you don't let the glass scratch because that's the biggest giveaway.
