I'm wearing mine again after putting it in its box for the last 3 months. I enjoyed it for a while, but once I noticed that the case had been cut misshapen, it was all I could see when I wore it.

Anyway, bought a cape cod cloth, spent 1.5 anime episodes polishing it and now it's basically perfect. I wouldn't recommend one to anyone but I am enjoying it again and have a shark mesh bracelet coming for it tomorrow.

Movement shot. Pretty much comparable to Citizen's Cosmotron series. A little better in a few things, a little worse in others.

Its main advantage over the Cosmotron series is that the beat of the seconds hand isn't halved, because it uses a fork instead of just a directly driven index wheel. The downside of this that the index wheel needs to be adjusted to properly align, but that's not too hard.

Digital watches are so seriously reliable novadays, no moving parts nigga.
The lcd and the crystal are the weak points.
I think lcds are said to have up to 30 years of life expectancy, but nowadays you can see over 40 year old digital watches that are working and keeping time perfectly fine and they were made with inferior tech than what we have now.
I predict a f-91w can last a hundred years if you only use it at a certain pressure, don't subject it to shocks and use it at a certain temperature (20 c +-10 c).

Gonna start assembling the 4336 on the right. It's the last one left, and so far it's the weirdest one I've seen.

The top side is very simple, the gears are as small as on a modern cheap quartz movement, but the dial-side is ridiculously complicated, two layers of very fine levers and calendar parts.

I suspect this movement was either an upscaled women's movement, or a men's that was designed to be adaptable to a women's case later on. Either way the parts are way smaller than normal. I'll be taking pics of the progress as I assemble it.

The whole reason you have to use proxy bidding sites is that you cannot normally bid on auctions from Yahoo! Japan Auctions from outside of Japan.

The proxy bidding sites (e.g. ZenMarket) allow you to bid on those auctions, then, if you win, the item is shipped by the seller to the proxy and you pay separately for the proxy to ship it to you.

The two big downsides with this are that you have to rely on Google Translated auction descriptions and pictures, and that you have basically zero buyer protection. The upside is you will find way better prices on vintage Japanese watches.

Its a Girard Perregaux 32a observatory chronometer, a pretty historically important watch. The 32a was the first ever 36k vph commercial wristwatch caliber. It was guaranteed to 2spd, the highest rating in history at the time and nearly so even today for a hairspring-regulated wristwatch. The observatory models were remarkable in particular for being commercially offered observatory chronometers, which was very uncommon, to put it mildly. This article lays out a little of the 32a history (it also gets some facts wrong; most material is that it claims there were only 662 32a watches, of which 40 were observatory certified; in fact there were 662 observatory certified chronometers, 40 in 1966 and 622 in 1967, and many more non-observatory 32a pieces).

My non-observatory 32a is in nicer shape, but is non-observatory and plated gold. It did come with the original boxes, certificate, manual, etc though.

The 32a movement was developed by a group of swiss manufacturers, including GP, zodiac, doxa, favre leuba, and others. Gp further refined it into the later 42.1, which has hacking and quickset, but isn't as historically significant (and was never observatory certified). I also have a astrographic SST, which was the same basic movement design from zodiac.

I'd love to own a kew A Rolex in a speedking case, which was probably the first ever commercially-sold observatory certified wristwatch, but it's unlikely I'll ever see one for sale.

There's still plenty of regulars lurking with historical knowledge so feel free to ask actually interesting questions.

Alright, this shitter arrived. A 3802, dated 1973. It's not running right now and the cannon pinion has almost completely seized, but I could probably restore this one too. This is a penisquartz, but not a GQ/KQ and Type II. I think it's closest to a QT without having the QT logo. I believe the 3802 constitutes as a HEQ (High End Quartz).

Bracelet is not the original unfortunately, but it's a pretty good Maruman.

I would generally not agree. The 3802 was the lowest grade 38xx quartz caliber. The 3883 would probably qualify, but that's probably it. It's a fine movement, and early quartz, even at the low end, were built well, but they were basic movements. Think of them as a similar level of quality to a modern Bulova UHF, for instance.
