lol nobody cares about anything like that were I work. I actually work in IT and manage all the parent company's websites. I do marketing but only in the sense of campaigns and sales promotions on the sites. Literally all they care about is how much my department spends and how much we get back in revenue.

nobody could give the slightest care what watch I wear or don't wear as long as my numbers are good

Working on a replica Blancpain FF bezel for a homage I'm building. This is my attempt at the font. Because the piece is going to be so small I'm not too concerned about little imperfections. Top is base font, middle is my modification, bottom is one of the vintage bezels I based the design off of.

I plan on having black aluminum cut by a cnc miller if anyone's interested. I've posted about custom bezels in a few threads but no one seems to be knowledgeable in the area.

My example font was released in 2013 and the watch in the 50s so that's a no go partner. It was likely an in house font they developed. various bezels over the years have used it. I'm sure if I emailed marketing they'd tell me more about it.

>>13596423
yeah the 5's a mess. Getting the spoon shape on the lower half is difficult. I'm comforted by the fact the guys in /gd/ didn't capture it well either. 3 I'm working but I don't want the middle as stubby as the original because I don't know the accuracy of the CNC mill I'll be having it done on yet. Didn't notice the 4 but you're right on that.

I'm redoing this using a more geometric approach. Generating true circles then deleting half and joining the nodes to the shape as one path. In the original I just added nodes where I wanted curves then dragged them out and smoothed the lines.

I would be happy to go vintage, I just don't feel confident with it at all yet. I've got a half decent understanding of watches now, but I worry that I'd miss crucial details or just get unlucky with a vintage piece that ends up requiring expensive servicing. Servicing is so expensive in Sydney actually it would just be a throwaway at that point. Most watchmakers here have a baseline of about $300-400 which increases with every little thing that needs to be done.

GP and Seiko get a lot of press for selling observatory-certified watches in the 60s, but Rolex was the first to put observatory certified movements into commercially available wristwatches. The best-rated quartz watches today run at 5 seconds per year and use various thermocompensation techniques to achieve that. Mine is currently 13 seconds behind on an atomic clock after about 1.5 months. Last time I reset the time was when I skipped the date 1 day moving from June to July. That's just a generic inexpensive Citizen (pic).

My F91W is currently 3 seconds ahead after about 1 month of running.

DESU I think it's kind of embarassing how well they do at +-120,- and +-15,- when compared to automatic 'certified chronometers'..

Timex made the oysterquartz for decades and it was an excellent watch. My understanding is that, for whatever reason, it was very unpopular with ADs, and therefore difficult for customers to get a hold of. It was entirely proprietary to Rolex and had a VXCO quartz oscillator and a pallet-fork driven gear train and has an excellent reputation among high-end quartz collectors.
