Hey it’s going pretty good , I got the watch and it came new in the box just as promised. I’m going to take it apart today and measure it to see which tritium tubes I need to buy.

The bracelet is super small I mean it’s probably sized for like a 6 1/2 inch wrist. Since I only paid $30 for the watch if I get this working I may buy another watch for that price just to take it apart and use the links for the bracelet so I can wear it properly

I don't know, I own a bunch of stainless steel $500 watches and this case looks and feels just like stainless to me same heft and machine marks. It is not plated I can tell you that, whatever it is it is solid.

I guess I'll contribute a bit and post some digital watches I owned/ still own. Let's start with a POS fashion watch with barely any functionality. This is the MEXX IMX3010. It looks striking, case and band (solid links) were made of metal, but the clasp was the shitty kind, without any fine adjustment capability. No stop watch, no backlight. Just time and date. Bought it for €10, sold it for €20 to a /fa victim.

This is the German radio controlled Junghans MEGA 1000 (first edition). Yeah boy, metal band, solid links, easy to read inverted display and no summer/winter time confusion. Just set it once and forget. Hell, it can set time itself. It was my brother's watch originally. He gifted it to me (after using it for 7 years), without realizing it's value, while being a (poor) student. So I sold it and gave him the €150 I got for it. It's become a design classic, without him realizing it.

Let's continue with my favorite type of watches, combining digital and analog features, for aesthetics and functionality. This is the Lorus RW611AX9 (aka PULSAR in the US. Both are Seiko's subbrands). So you'd think Seiko would make some good shit, even if it's a subbrand, right? WRONG. This is a POS I bought for €30 and sold to some sucker for €50. Here is the problem. Although the watch itself looks nice, it suffers from having cheap tech you'd find in a cheap Chinese watch. Meaning, it's a watch with two movements that aren't interconnected. They each require their own individual battery and one movement lags behind the other one. Or one movement rushes ahead. I don't remember what was the case exactly. But the time difference just kept growing. Which was annoying as hell, of course. I'm not taking that kind of shit at that price point. That watch costs around €100 new and doesn't even have solid links in it's metal band. A clear indicator for cutting corners.

This is the Weide something, something, who cares? It's a cheap Chinese watch that has got exactly the same problem as the much more expensive Lorus above it. This Weide watch came with a silicone band originally, but I swapped it for a metal one, before getting rid of it. Unfortunately I got the Lorus right after. What a disappointment. However I liked the design of the Weide and I knew the Chinese must have copied it from something, because let's be real, of course they fkin did. But unfortunately, that something turned out to be a Casio G-Shock. And the problem with that is it being made out of rubber. And I fkin hate rubber. So that was the end of it.

Some time has passed after that and somehow I came across this Casio EFA-133 on ebay. (YES, it was just like that G-Shock, but METAL!!! Sweet Jusus, thank you!) It was listed as broken (in unknown condition) and I could see it was a Casio, but I had no idea what it was exaclty (the model number). I had to buy it, just to see what model it was. So that I could get a working one, eventually. And of course, I did. But to my amazement, it turned out to be perfectly fine and only required a battery swap. Not only did I get what I was looking for, but I also got it for cheap, YESSSSSS! You see two watches in this photo, because of course I had to get a second one. It's one of my faves and they are getting increasingly rare. Since there is no warranty on them anymore, I had to get a second one, just in case.

I definitely agree it's weird to have a casebook that denotes the "bezel" is in base metal and the casebook is in stainless

Perhaps it was made in china or japan in the 70s and this is from the period that translations were still fucked up from those languages?

>> No.13591199

Regarding the post above with the Casio EFA-133.
I forgot to mention what makes it so nice. As you can see, it's digital and analog at the same time, but there is no crown to set the hands. That's because they are motorized and automatically jump to whatever the digital part displays. Synchronization,YES!!! This is how it works:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLJG0HyQrUA

Also, it's got a weird quirk. There is no backlight. Instead you get an LED to help you see the hands. Forget about all the digital functionality in the evening... LOL

No, I don't only own the 2 identical watches. Here is why you buy 2 identical watches though in my case, it's a vintage model I have fallen for. If it breaks, I'll be very sad. They are long out of warranty and also not readily available. So I made sure to get a second one relatively cheaply, while the opportunity presented itself. And here is the rest of my collection. 5 are women's watches, 4 of which are identical. They are expensive, but I got them ridiculously cheap. They are for bartering/ gifts. There is only one mechanical watch in my collection. All of them are chronographs. One is a lightweight titanium watch, while the other ones are nicely weighted. There i one by Marc Ecko, one by Calvin Klein, one Festina, one Folli Follie, one vintage ellesse, one fake Breitling (I never wear it, but couldn't bring myself to throw it away. It's a decent watch by itself, miyota movement). One vintage motorized citizen, lots of Fossils, some Casios and the rest are obscure brands

Firstly, I'm already saving up for something, which is a motherfucking house. Secondly, all the watches I own, I got for cheap and can resell them for a profit anytime. So this bunch of watches does not represent a bunch of wasted money. Thirdly I consider watches to be functional jewelery (the only kind acceptable for males). As long as a watch does it's job and I like the design, I consider it a good watch, regardless of the price tag. Got my own head, thank you very much. With your kind of thinking, where does it stop? The mercedes owner thinks he is above the rest, but he is laughed at by the ferrari owner, who is in turn being laughed at by the bugatti owner, who is in turn being laughed at by the vintage ferrari owner. Where does it stop? This is what each of us has to decide for himself. If you like fashion, you can't just have one shirt. Similarly, if you like watches, you can't just have one watch. I was able to get them for cheap. If the opportunity presents itself, you strike. The CK needs a small fix. It's nothing to write home about, so I'll get it done, when I get to it. Also, they are both unusual. The Marc Ecko's 3d watch face is extremely intricate. The watch itself reminds me a lot of the horrible ultra cheap Chinese fakes, which try to mimic this design. Gold and large. But this one is real, of course. And the CK incorporates glass in it's case. Of course I don't mean the crystal, I mean what's on the side of the case, the part of it's wall.

What's defines an elitist is not the difference in taste. But the need to announce his superiority, even if it's just in taste. In other words it all comes down to "I'm better than you", which is exactly what an elitist is. You could have said "nothing special" or "lame". But no, instead it was "why don't you aspire to be like me?" To which my answer is a clear FUCK YOU.

Titanium is an interesting choice for watches. It's supposed to be harder than steel but from personal experience it seems to be easier to scratch.

Pro: It's at least 40% lighter than steel. Easy and comfortable to wear.

Con: It's at least 40% lighter than steel. It's so light it feels like you're wearing a cheap PoS. Sometimes you want to feel like have a heavy solid watch on your wrist.

Titanium is stronger than the types of steel typically used in watches, but not as hard. It scratches easier but resists failure by fracture + deformation better than 316L steel does.

Research, find what you like, what styles interest you, what features you want in a watch. Then buy one that checks all the boxes. Asking what watch you should get is like asking what book you should read; there are so many variables involved it is impossible to say without defining parameters. you can do that yourself, look at a lot of watches and decide what exactly you want.
See Jomashop or chrono24 for online sites with thousands of watches to view.
