And again retard OP can't make a proper /wt/. Thanks for moving us to /fa/ G is a faggit edition.

This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.

Why doesn't Rolex make larger dress watches for people who are not limp-wristed fags? The datejust 41 is only actually 39.5mm or so, how is someone supposed to wear that with an 8" wrist?

Also, what is the point of the date magnification, are Rolex customers fucking blind old men and cannot see without it? To top it all off, the version without this whole date bullshit, the oyster perpetual only comes at a 39mm version max...

Thanks for nothing Rolex, you successfully captured your target market, the 6" wrist half-blind middle-class chinese citizen who wants to show off his imaginary wealth.
Not even a display caseback, because we reeeeally need the 100m water resistance like the average client is gonna go deep sea diving every fucking weekend... fuck this brand

I was thinking of getting a vostok amphibia and modding it a bit like pic related.
I currently have a g-shock g5600e, seiko sarb017, explorer 14270 and a royal oak 14790 in my collection and they are all quite high quality watches with all the bells and whistles.
So my problem is would it be a waste of time for me to pick up a vostok and spend time modding it, would i end up disappointed because of the vostoks crappy movement?
Anybody here have vostok? Is it easy to cope with such a rudimentary movement???

Retards like you are why /wt/ threads are fucking cancer.

The Citizen BM8180-03E is an excellent watch. The ED-E100 movement is accurate to within +/- 2s a month (I've checked). It's an made entirely Japan and in house by Citizen. Simple dial. Clean readable Arabic numerals. Day/date complication. All in a 37mm diameter case, a size that pretty much anyone can wear these days.

If you like mechanical watches, good for you. But don't shit on quartz watches. They're great too.

explain more? That performance would be exceptional bordering on impossible unless restricted to a very regular thermal profile. No matter how good the watch, if they aren't using TC and are trying a standard 32khz xy-cut tuning fork crystal, the temperature response will be about the same.

Tissot Visodate (white dial) vs Seiko SARB033 : which one should be my first non-Seiko 5 automatic? I know they are a dime a dozen online but I just like these two the best and I can't decide. I heard that the Visodate has awful handwinding thanks to the inherent weakness of that part in the 2824 (and thus, the 2836) caliber. It also looks just a hair too thick to fit under a shirt cuff on pictures. It's cheaper, though. Its movement is a few second more accurate and easier to service, too, I think.

I just don't get it.

I checked out a mall-tier watch store and 99.9% of the watches were just fucking bland. They feel like they were designed with Microsoft Word or something using free fonts. They have no interesting materials or colors or shapes. Also the cases are often too bulky. Some watches have a watchface that is supposed to look classy with like roman numerals and a serif font but then it's gigantic like a diver watch.

I just can't comprehend how people think these watches are worth anything. How they can spend several hundreds or even thousands on them. How they think they are a step-up over wearing nothing at all. There are so many of these bland watches out there and it looks like they make profit. I am so confused.

Master refers to the master chronometer certification. As far as I know all current mechanical omegas (outside the speedmaster pro, I think?) Are master chronometers. Certainly all the current coaxials are.

Nah, and not a millenial, probably older than you. HC is only popular because it is Cuban but it isn't even the best Cuban rum. Rum is a shit alcohol anyways. If you insist on drinking it try Santa Teresa 1796 or Appleton's.
As for scotch there are hundreds of better options. To name a few
>Talisker
>Ardbeg
>Bowmore
>Caol Ila
>Springbank
>Lagavulin
All of those are readily available year-round. This isn't even getting into rarer distilleries or vintages. Try out a glass or two a week at a bar and find some you like. I guarantee you will not be going back to Glenfiddy

That's one of the Caliber 1045/Lemania 5100 Speedmasters. For various technical reasons it's one of the best tool watch mechanical chronograph movements ever made, and was one of the very last high performance mechanical movements designed purely on the basis of functionality and without regard to aesthetics.

It has a vertical clutch, cam actuation, a central register chronograph minute hand, plastic movement protection plates and a directly driven chronograph complication.

This basically means it has very smooth actuation and excellent shock and g-force resistance, combined with excellent legibility. It was used in a lot of official air force pilots watches in the late 1970s and into the 1980s.

>>13536383
The plastic parts are in non-driveline areas like the date mechanism and in shock protection plates. They are not associated with any common reliability issues as far as I know.

Here are some good examples of one of the golden rules of watch photography: hands at 10 and 2. Ever notice that almost all professional watch photographs have their hands in the same position? the 10 and 2 position keeps complications in sight and the watch face uncluttered and easily displayed. It also shows off the design of the hour and minute hands in a symmetrical way.
