I really fucking want a pair of 14i steel toe cap-boots again, like the ones in the pic. I bought them used and made the mistake of not sizing up (vintage DMs are UK9 --> EU42 instead of EU43, ouchie my toe-hurting juices). I sold the pair to a friend of mine whose feet actually fit inside the boot.

Should I go for Solovair? They have a similar pair available, in my size. I've been thinking about this for months. My perversion for leather can't be sated.

Got in Doc 1460 monos last week. It's been 4 days of wearing in the house, but they're finally loosening up and not digging into the back of my calves.

One thing that bothers me though...I think my outer toes can feel the inner wall of the toecap, just slightly. If my heel is against the back of the shoe, then this doesn't happen...but if the heel slips forward slightly, then occasionally I contact the wall with my pinky toe.

Should I consider getting the size larger? They don't make half sizes, and I already tried a size larger and there was way too much room, even when it was laced up tight. What do you guys think? I know I could put on thicker socks with a larger size, but then when the larger sized shoe breaks in, I'd have even more room to slip around in...

It's my first pair of docs...anyone got any ideas? Is there a solution to this, or do I ride it out as I break in the shoes?

Sadly they can't fit in the size below. This is the smallest size I can wear without all of my toes scraping across the front cap every time I step. The problem is that I can still feel the cap once in a while, and that's ONLY if my heel isn't against the back, and it's ONLY with the pinky toe (the smallest, on the outside)

Fwiw, today is even better than yesterday, and I can now finally feel the 'bounce' that people rave about with these boots. As for the pinky toe...well, they can still feel it, but it's getting a little less.

Thanks everyone anyway.

yeah look at the one I posted before those, they're way moer ecologically responsible.

however, there's still a lot of heavy chemical usage in the production of animal leather, such as chromium dioxide for tanning and bleaching white leather. this stuff is a pervasive toxic substance that poisons soil and waterways for long periods of time, and has rendered spaces around factories uninhabitable.

at least most "vegan leather" footwear I see says it's environmentally produced, in some way or another, so you wandould expect they don't pollute to the same degree.

Thick socks will help a little, but not as much as insoles, which I strongly recommend if they are a bit loose. Also, lace them up pretty tightly, that'll keep your foot from sliding as much. ok, sounds good.
ive worn them acouple of times and i can say that my feet dont really slip around that much. maybe just a bit of a slide here and there.
also, i was a bit concern about the toe space since it feels like theres maybe an inch of space. im not used to having that much space for my toes.
the boot seems to bend at the right place where my toes are so im guessing going by that it means the fit is fine.

Hey guys, question about boot color:

My casual boots are wearing out and initially I planned to buy the same or another similar black pair (mid-calf, lace up, fairly light-weight). Thing is, I wear a lot of black already. Color pops are usually red, dark purple or subdued colors like light brown, gray, olive, mauve, etc.

I like the aesthetic of all black clothing with the shoe matching your hair color, mine's a natural multi-toned brown so would work with a rich brown boot. But if I'm wearing colored pants and probably a black shirt, wouldn't black look best? I'm also considering dark red, but I hate that cringey black/red punk look.

Also I should mention, my winter boots are dark brown, but I really only wear them for snow. I also have black sneakers, black dress shoes, and a pair of red loafers.

Is black the most versatile? Would a dark brown like >>13524838 look good with my poorly described wardrobe or will I regret not having a reliable, simple black boot?

went into nordstrom for shits and giggles, they had ysl boots and man they were really nice. the associates walked away from me as i got closer though kek
the rest of the quality of the aldo shoes really surprised me though. they had this fake stitching detail on the sole and the upper looked glued on. was expecting something a lot nicer for ~150usd but i guess you really do have to spend a lot more for better quality

Those ppl are the equivalent of denin geek circa 2008. Theyre polishing and conditioning and shit their boots for fun. You dont need to do anything to boots really. You can brush the dirt off now and then and put some product (conditioner, cream, polish is all basically the same thing regardless of what these maniacs who use 8 products tell you) every couple of months. THough really you dont need to - every boot under will fail at the sole before the upper anyway

So I decided to go head and choose these two guys.
Can someone tell me their personal sizing experience for both the Dr Marten and the Solovair? I keep reading differing suggestions to size up or down and dont know which to choose. I am a 10.5 US and I typically wear vans if that is any sort of base for comparison.

They fit pretty much exactly like Docs. I have mono docs and got some solovairs about 3 months ago and they are maybe 2mm larger than the docs, so very insignificant in size difference.

Be aware though, my pair was fucked up at the side. (pic related) + I read a lot of bad reviews on their quality. A guy on reddit had his sole split from the shoe after 2 weeks of wear. Solovair didn't even give a shit and only reacted once they saw his post on reddit to do damage control.

A girl I know has vegan docs and they look no different from the regular ones. I asked her and she says they hold up great. They can definitely pull off the ancient/fucked up look if that's what you want.

>>13525635
>Should I go for Solovair?
Just know that the supposed 'higher quality' shilled here is a meme. I have both made in Asia docs and solovairs and the leather is EXACTLY the same, except the plastic coating on solovairs isn't as rigid initially, making the shoe easier to break in. In fact the docs actually have nicer finish with an extra piping around the end of the shaft, while on the solos it's completely bare. If you want higher quality, you could perhaps check out the MIE Docs. I've heard nothing but good things about them + I can tell from pictures alone that their leather is thicker than MIA docs and solos.

Completely fucked a pair of 8-eye Solovairs in a year and a half, currently waiting for KommandoStore to deliver me some memetroopers. Really hoping they'll last. Might get the soles replaced with something lightweight though.

The soles look like dainites (or a ripoff pattern). It's not lugged enough for heavy duty shit. If you're walking on a cleared pavement then it's fine. If you're trekking though snow and on ice no way.

I'd say that they're about the same, really.
If you want dedicated ice shoes, like you're actually trudging through that shit all winter, then those IR's are probably going to get soaked and you feet cold and wet.
Look at the red wing icecutter model, if they still make it. It's got a thermal lining and the lugged soles are made for those kinds of conditions.
Not so aesthetically pleasing though.

Where are you and what/where are you going to be walking?

Where I live it usually snows only couple of times between November and February (cca. 20 cm of snow everytime). Bigger problem are icy pavements where ice is often hidden under layer of snow. I only need to walk about 100m on pavement to bus stop and back tho. The way to uni also crosses unpaved parking lot that is full of mud or even flooded due to melting snow in spring.
