Anyone got good recommendations for shirts in Europe? Specifically I'm looking for nice soft oxfords with good collar roll (something most brands completely lack here. Most button downs have these pathetic tiny little collars that just sit flat against the body)

At the moment I've got shirts from cottonsociety and shirtonomy which are nice but a bit pricy (130 euros) because they are custom. Drakes are nice but very expensive (160 euros at least) and always lacking in 15/15.5 inch sizes. I've got a couple shirts from Hartford (french brand) but they only ever have a tiny selection each season.

I'd rather not import from the states as the import taxes can be brutal and returning is a bit of a pain. Anyone got suggestions?

J.crew shirts are a bit naff imo. The collars are too short for any kind of roll and the material just doesn't feel any good to wear.

I do however rate their drawstring shorts. They're the perfect inseam length (6 inches) and they are rediculously comfortable. Again, the quality isn't great but the fit and comfort are.

Suits are overpriced when suitsupply exists.

Socks are ok.

Tees are nice, although the collars have a habit of sagging after a while.

Their chinos are ok. I've never been a big fan of the low rise, super slimfit style that they espouse so that would be up to you.

I've liked a lot of J.crew's outerwear options. I insta-bought a yellow parka they sold this SS and it's one of my favourite coats.

Regarding Johnstone and Murphy, I don't know American brands but a quick look at their site looks like made in italy, blake stitched stuff. If you can I would recommend Allen Edmonds or Meermin. They aren't much more expensive but I'm sure the quality is far superior.

Of course it really depends on your budget. If you can afford it there's much better stuff out there however if you can't (and anyway you clearly like the style) I'd understand and you could certainly be doing a lot worse.

What's the consensus on men's finger nails?

My impression is that there should be a small amount of white on each nail. Either long nails or zero nail white seem equivalent to long hair or buzzed hair, neither of which are prep.

I'm bringing it up because I file mine down to zero nail. Since it's a replacement for nail biting, it's compulsive, and I'm wondering whether I should bother changing this habit or not.

For evolutionary reasons, long (actually long) nails are a sign of short term health and thus a sign of female fertility. Same with hair. Obviously, these rules don't apply to men; looking grizzled and scarred even makes us more attractive.

What I'm talking about is less about the actual nail than it is about the social meaning of how your groom them.
