Fougère is a really broad category, especially aromatic fougère. Everything from Sauvage and Polo Blue EdP to Azzaro pH can be considered fougère, so the term is sort of meaningless to me. The best modern example of I've found of a ferny, coumarin heavy 80's style fougère is Boss Cashmere Patchouli. When I first sniffed it was one of my "aha" moments in this hobby, as it was the type of fragrance I had not smelled since early childhood. Nothing hits the nostalgia button for me quite like it.

I didn't see the Jeremy review. I can understand how it's too sweet for some people, but I wear lots of unisex stuff anyway so sweetness doesn't faze me. I can also see how Lucky has a lot of the 2017-2018 trendy notes (cashmeran, coffee, fruits, amberwood) going on at once. I just enjoy the overall result more than most other recent examples of the genre. For me it recalls Bond no. 9 I Love New York for Marriage Equality (2012), which now appears to have been ahead of its time.

I still enjoy the original AHS and prefer it to its nearest competitor, Versace pour Homme, due to longevity and complexity. VpH also gives me a headache if I spray too much, which isn't an issue with the Chanel. Given your current rotation, either AHS or AHS EE will offer contrast and variety.

I took a chance and blind bought PDM Layton as well as Exclusif based on pretty much universal praise from you guys:

>>/fa/?task=search&ghost=&search_text=layton

I don't like everything you guys shill, but these are winners. As for how Exclusif compares to the original Layton, it's like the same chord played on a different instrument, an octave lower. The emphasis on woods and civet provides greater contrast for the sweet notes, which are dialed down from Eros to AHSEE levels. Exclusif doesn't have the same 12-hour beast longevity of Layton, but it has real presence. I could easily smell myself walking outdoors on a windy day.

Good recommendation, /frag/.

As you can see there are a lot of different frames of reference.

Most of the time, I've never had trouble figuring out if I like something on 1 ml. That's usually 2 wearings + a half for me since I usually apply a third to a half of a decant. For most of my fragrances, this has always been enough, and it lets me order like 14 samples. If there's ever something I'm not sure if I like, I'll order more samples with my next paycheck. But most of my fragrances I've been able to determine I like after 2 wearings, and i don't really have anything I regret buying in my collection except things that I'm still not comfortable wearing except at date type events (and I don't go out much so).

I'd say bigger samples become important in niche perfumery if you're new, because that's a lot more money, but that's just me.

Hey I'm wearing a sample of it right now.
Its definitely better than the original 1million, which had some weird note that smelled kinda gross/bitter.
I think the bottle does a good job at representing the feel of the smell, which is shiny, glamorous, and fun. It's very sweet, with hazelnut that makes it smell like candy, and it really does smell like teenage girl in a way. But it does that in the best way, in that its very fun and lively. That being said, it feels very immature when compared to other scents like Aventus or Bleu de Chanel, which are more complex and thoughtful. Lucky is not a very complex scent, but it is really good.
It would be a good scent for having fun and being out and about, and also for someone that doesnt want to take things too seriously and be snotty about fragrances. It lightens the mood a lot, but like the other guy mentioned, it does smell more like a mall than niche scents do. A glamourous shiny mall with lots of cool things to buy.

I store them in a closet. The ones I dont use that season I keep in the boxes on top of the closet.

Himalaya is really fresh crisp masculine and soapy. I find it kind of boring so I dont reach for it that much. Opens with grapefruit and bergamot that are quite pleasant and stay on pretty long. I dont like sharp citruses but this is nice and not sharp at all. Reviews say this fragrance has a gunpowder accord, I can recognize something that resembles that fireworks smell but in a clean way in whole drydown as the citruses subdue. I think I'm anosmic to Creed's ambergris and all (synthetic?) musk so I cant comment on that. Maybe that's why I dont find it all too interesting.
Performance/longevity is unexpectedly really good.

Just go a bottle of Penhaligon’s The Tragedy of Lord George. Really digging it. It seems to get pretty mixed reviews, but I think it nails the aristocratic British thing. Really does smell like brandy and fancy shaving soap with hints of wood and leather lingering in the background.

Very interesting twist on a barbershop scent. Cool bottle too.

Not op but Herod. Layton is nice for a bit but it gets sickly sweet after a while and the drydown is kinda funny-smelling. I know it's supposed to be great but every time I wear it I end up wishing I hadn't a few hours in. Herod is pretty nice, dry tobacco, not the syrupy sweet tobacco from Pure Havane or CK Shock. I do like Pegasus as well though, and most people seem to hate that so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I tried the sport version and have to say I was very disappointed. people around me liked it, so I tried very hard to get used to it, but to me it simply smelled like pickle juice. really, it just smelled like opening a jar of fresh dill pickles and taking a good whiff. if I focused very hard I could smell some of the original notes, but i just couldn't get into it. I wanted to like it so much because I love the original. with that said, I asked many people if they smelled the same thing and none of them did, and thought it smelled great. I gave it to a friend who liked it and he got some compliments on the first day.
