What's everyone's thoughts on Vetements/Balenciaga/Off-white and the Raf Simons/Demna Gvasalia/Virgil Abloh craze going on right now?

not my thing but its fine. we are reaping what margiela has sown

if you thought LV's men line went down the shitter with kim jones, wait until virgil gets ahold of it.

>> No.13417890

>>13417861
this we have no one to blame except margiela and people at the house

>> No.13417918

Personally I like what Raf Simons and Demna Gvasalia are doing but I hate off-white and virgil Abloh

lol. like marc jacobs and helbers were doing LV any favors. their menswear has been DOA since it launched. even if they are not to your taste virgil actually takes creative risk in his menswear and can only add value to LV. when did their menswear actually start anyway, 2005?

vetements hype already flatlined
balenciaga about to fall off
off white meme bubble about to burst cant wait to see this trash flatline in six months and flipped en masse for pennies

raf wax museum status now but atleast one or two pieces per season is wearable daily

With Vetements Demna had some ok stuff, but not really my cup of tea.
Balenciaga just went completely down the shitter, no idea how Demna could fuck up this bad. 90 % is absolutely horrible fuccboi shit. Just taking stuff that has been done before and making it more appealing to fuccbois.
Off White/Virgil is even worse. A very good contender for the title of worlds shittiest designer. Catered to people who go to „underground-but-not-really“ hip hop events with yeezys, dancing to drake. Absolute garbage tier crap. I’ve seen maybe 2 designs that are somewhat passable, the rest is utter shit. I wouldn’t even buy his fucking dickwad designs for 5 bucks.
Raf is ok and always has been. He designs his shit because he feels it, not because fuckwads like it.
I really fuck with Margiela though. Probably my favorite designer to be honest.

its always been shit, but you might as well keep a 200 year old house in tact then to go complete retard

lol yeah that's not going to happen anytime, soon i can immediately spot someone that doesn't live in a major european city on these threads, you're more likely than not to see MORE of that style not less of it.

Margiela, Maison Kitsune, Lemaire, Damir Doma, Yohji, CDG Homme Plus (only the Homme Plus line mostly, not the rest), some Raf, some Lanvin, even the occasional Rick design etc
Why did you assume I like SLP though? It’s completely different from Margiela

Vetement: memes
Balenciaga: going full on Gucci tier mass market trash
Off white: chinks
Raf: continuing to innovate
Denma: gives me hope for the future
Virgil: brand to invest in, pieces will double in value in 5 yrs

stay off ssense. i like homme , and margiela tho. kistune reminds me of the jcrew version of kenzo

LV was always shit.
It’s expensive luggage, that’s all it is.
I’m not even surprised they picked a retard like Abloh to push the idea that they are actually a serious fashion house. Going all out for the hype shit because they have no idea about actual fashion.

I don’t even visit that site at all.
Doma is great you dunce. Not everything of course but his simpler non-goth-esque designs are great.
Kitsune is WAY above Kenzo in terms of designs in my opinion. Not even close.

Abloh only runs mens, Ghesquiére is good imo (see latest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsRUFyhWHAc )

Those first few seasons of vetements were actually pretty cool imo. Now it’s just garbage collaborations that make you a walking billboard for meh brands while paying thousands.
Balenciaga is now either bizarre pieces you could never really wear or hype beast tier stuff.
Virgil is garbage and I will never understand how he got so popular just from throwing “ “ on anything.

he studied at the royal academy of fine arts in belgium, which is where margiela studied as well. margiela and other graduates' work is taught there, including margiela's deconstruction approach (dissecting a garment into individual parts, then messing with proportions of those individual parts or reassembling them in a peculiar way). when he graduated he actually applied and got a job working for margiela in womenswear. even though margiela himself left at that point, the deconstruction approach was and still is at the core of their design. i also read a post here that demna's coworkers at balenciaga or vetements (more likely) used to also work at margiela. cant find a source for that but here is an interview with demna covering everything else, including interesting tidbits about working with marc jacobs and ghesquire:

https://www.businessoffashion.com/community/voices/discussions/how-to-fix-fashion-week/demna-gvasalia-reveals-vetements-plan-to-disrupt-the-fashion-system

google around, there are actually lots of interviews and articles about the link between margiela and demna

it isn't a 200 year old fashion house. their RTW was added 21 years ago, and their mens launched in 2005 as far as i am able to source. just so we dont get bogged down in semantics, to me a fashion house means they have couture, RTW, diffusion, accessories, and fragrance. their menswear would include at least made to measure suiting service, if not bespoke. so their clothing has about as much hertiage as juicy or tapout (founded same year)

i havent looked at his womens wear to be honest but marc jacobs would make collections in two or three weeks time. you are welcome to point out to me jacobs contribution to fashion and design, i am genuinely ignorant. i have looked over helbers and kim jones work for LV menswear though, it is a yawn at best
