In America, people definitely do still order them today, and I've heard of some actually wearing them. It doesn't make much sense to me, though, if someone then goes on to college or the military or something.

I didn't order mine. I have some sentiment toward high school, but not enough to get a gaudy ring. I have far more of an attachment to college and later educational experiences (but still, not enough to get a ring).
