has anyone written a timeline or some discourse on how /fa/ changed the internet fashion world as it is? what trends it produced, designers, etc.

I think it's hard to trace exactly, since so many /fa/ users post on other forums / reddit as well

That being said, due to the amount of shitposting on here I'm not sure if there has been as big of an influence

It was grasped by Chanel, G-Star, Coach and others.

The end.

This board has absolutely no sway an anything at all. It's got a low population and is filled with faggots. 4chan in general is pretty irrelevant. We aren't even ground zero for fresh memes that go mainstream anymore. Twitter is taking over that role. Only the big/controversial boards come close to having cultural impact, but only barely. The site's dying.

you're overblowing 4chan's significance if you actually believe this. /pol/ has a steady user pop of 120k posters. with ~138 million people voted in the general election, /pol/ accounts for 0.08% of voters. trump resonated with demographics far larger and more significant than 4channeru

>> No.13402061

>>13402057
but poster count and reach/influence are completely different metrics

>> No.13402076

>>13402057
yes, because /pol/ forced him hard through memes, which caught on with normies and became a free, self-replicating election campaign
if not for /pol/ he wouldn't have nearly as many millenial votes

>> No.13402092

>>13402061
sure, fine, lets look at alexa rank then. reddit's alexa rank for 2016 ranged from #33 to #23. 4chan ranged from #862 to #852. every major news outlet had more reach/influence than 4chan, even more middling outlets like the drudge report had higher rankings and visitors by a considerable margin (hovered in the 600s for 2016). the number of visitors to reddit is an order of magnitude higher than 4chan, 2016 to present. reddit couldnt meme sanders past the primary, theres really no reason to believe 4chan had any decisive impact on the general election

>> No.13402102

>>13402092
You're missing the point. The number of people visiting the site isn't the important factor. /pol/'s goal was never to get people to visit the board. They know how awful their optics are. The fewer people cognizant of the fact they were being influenced by channers or seeing 4chan content the better. Getting more people to participate in the board was NEVER the aim. I don't even disagree that they didn't have as much effect as people claim, but you're not thinking about it the right way.

>> No.13402159

>>13402102
i didnt assume it was /po/'s goal to increase their poster count. i think looking at it in terms of visitors and ranking is fine. just think sheer numbers. who and what do you think had more influence on people who were undecided or independent? do you think 84 million people who watched the debate were influenced by that at all? the 1.4 million people who watch fox news every day? the 1 billion people who visited reddit every day? the $81 million spent on facebook ads, with 1000 impressions made per $10 spent on ads, approximately? nearly $600 million on TV ads?

>but /pol/ users talked to other people
so did redditors with bernie-fever
>but /pol/ made memes that subconsciously spread and influenced the entire population
i have yet to see or hear any convincing data that supports this conclusion. i am taking vistor and user counts, ad reach counts and spending as a base from which to estimate what happens in the wider population. otherwise you are just speculating and fantasizing baselessly. don't make mountains out of molehills like trump tweeting pepe. he was tweeting constantly and that wasn't even his most retweeted during the campaign.

lets take something actually significant that likely had a decisive influence on independent voters, comey saying hillary was still under investigation. clinton's standing in polls fell sharply after the story broke. this is stuff you can measure and we have hard data for. she dropped from 5.9 percent point lead to 2.9 percent lead a week after the announcement. thats tens of millions of people changing their minds in a week's time.

if you like i can list sources i looked over while writing my posts but its google-able and ultimately probably not important to anyone else who thinks 4chan actually "memed trump into presidency."

ergo, /fa/ didnt make them a meme. people seem to have this backwards.

>runway show
>item looks good and gets a mention in runway reviews and coverage (hypebeast, highsnobiety, mr porter articles, gq, nyt)
>buyers look at collection and place orders
>rich people buy hot item(s)
>item appears in music videos, streetstyle blogs, now instagram and youtubers
>popularity bleeds over to /fa/ where it becomes a joke

the newest example would be balenciaga triple-s. even though its a meme here its because the shoe was already popular. it does NOT go like this:

>runway show
>/fa/ spots item on runway show (we barely have runway threads)
>becomes a meme on /fa/
>rappers, instagram celebs, youtubers, and buyers all lurk /fa/ and see something is a meme on 4chan and take the trend further from there
