im not claiming anything about tradition. your point doesnt really address anything either. im not seeing how you make the jump from 'bauhaus is a style that can be applied to anything' to 'dw looks good.' some bauhaus design can look awful.

also not seeing how you are making the jump that DW is using a bauhaus method of design. nothing on their website or promotional material suggesting they are bauhaus. minimal =/= bauhaus. some of their models are also definitely in the style of more classic watch designs with the roman numerals

design outside of tradition can look good but DW doesn't.

Got pic related because I'd been looking for a Chronograph with a blue dial. The black Tachymeter I found especially pleasing, so I couldn't help buying it immediately.

Looking for a mechanical watch currently, because I also want something more simple.

I might get a Seiko SNK809K1, and get a leather and/or NATO strap for some variation, since I already have a steel bracelet watch.. The canvas straps for the SNK series look a bit crappy, and people report they're not very comfy. For the +-10bucks extra I might as well get steel.. Now I just need an asian seller that I trust. They're +- $60 in asia, but 160+ in Europe.

The Tudor was a gift, so yea. I'll buy an Explorer eventually. And that old piece of junk I bought because it looks so old and decayed. I have a similar one from the same brand in beautiful condition, but it doesn't make me nearly as happy as this one. The dial is beautiful in sunlight, great bumper movement too. More comments on that one than any other watch I have.
The Casio makes me happy too, it's a wonderful watch. The Smiths isn't vintage because this one was a third of the price and brand new, so I can make my own story with it. The Hamilton was the frst mechanical watch I bought for myself, but I find it a bit too big now.
And yea, the Seiko is a winner, never regretted buying it for a day.

Not that I think Explorer is something you should go for, it's just that it would be the "real deal" instead of that Tudor. If I were spending the money it takes to buy an explorer I would go for some Omega instead. It's something about Rolex that just screams arrogance and snobbery because of the stigma the brand brings along with it as baggage. Other brands like Omega don't have that same baggage I think. Right now I'm wearing Seiko SARB033. I would post a wrist check for you, but I think you can imagine one from the 2000 other pictures people posted of theirs in these threads. :D

They are mostly made of plastic and look like they're made of plastic. Their bands are trash, other than the NATO straps which can be had for less than $15. The second I saw one I thought that it was some cheap watch you'd find at Target or Walmart, and then I laughed out loud when I saw people were spending up to $200 on them online.

They're fragile, cheaply made, and will retain little value in the future. My recommendation if you have one is to sell it as soon as you can.

All that said, if you like the way they look, who am I to stop you? But there are better watches that follow a bauhaus design for less money, with a better brand reputation.

IWC are absolutely a winner, but their price is out of my league.

Messerschmitt looks like crap Junkers too, mostly because of the logo.

Archimede is another option I'm considering. They're not one of the original manufacturers, but still have them pretty authentic. They're cheaper too.
No date complication options though. And I'm still undecided whether I want the date or not.

>bracelets
Accepted in many social groups, like hipsters or the likes. Few above 25 will be wearing any, and the overall majority will not be using any.

>rings
Only accepted in some odd social groups (wedding rings being the obvious exception). By the majority this is not accepted.

not really the watch dial size but its the long overhanging lugs. But as a fan of larger watches myself, I think its fine, worked with today's style. Plus, I'm a big fan of wearing whatever makes you feel good. It's a cool looking aviators watch, I say wear it with pride. it's certainly just at the edge of too much overhang, but by no means is it obviously or comically too large for your wrist (IMO)

>> No.13394598

>>13394155

Really depends on the lug overhang. I have a smaller wrist but I wear big dive watches because I love them. Shop around, some 42-44mm watches may be built with more accommodating lug shapes/designs for smaller wrists to reduce overhang. I'd look at Seiko here as most swiss/european brands follow a similar lug construction to rolex which can sometimes cause more overhang thus looking like a larger watch than the dial let's on.

However, if you really care about proportion and fear judgement, I would stick to 35-40mm diameter watches, taking lug hang into account. That would be the socially acceptable watch size for you

Oh I'm not gonna wear that watch, it's just for reference. But it's a bad reference because the lugs are so straight instead of curved down. However the image make it look like the lugs are much more overhanging than they are, they are really only at the edge of my wrist but the curved edge of my wrist makes it look like they are longer. But the dial is a problem too, I think.

My problem is that I have fallen in love with a watch at 41cm (the aviator shitter is 42 or 43). The watch I want have much better lugs, but the dial is big with skinny bezel just like the aviator. I fear it will look bad on me. But I haven't tried it IRL yet.
