Summer decant purchase list (thoughts welcome):

-Terre D'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche: Already had a 1 or 2mL decant of it. Liked and probably just going to buy a 5mL instead of a full bottle because I won't go through it quickly enough.

-Gucci Pour Homme II: Only found one source in Canada and it's kind of expensive but I just want to try and see what the hype is about.

-Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza: I've been wanting to try AdP but this isn't my first choice (again, Canadian availability). Really iffy reading about lots of reviews regarding soapiness and might pass it up because of it.

-Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil: Been wanting to try something from the Jardin line. Liked a Lacoste freshie, but want to step up to something higher quality/less generic. Only debating whether to take the plunge and get a 5mL right away or take a 2mL.

There's so much stuff I want to try but can't really find for a good price. I've heard Atelier has great citruses but I can always drop into a Sephora and test them out.

one example of why you are wrong. that price is for 3 grams of the stuff, and the mustapha ouds are actually pretty widely used by niche perfumers. other naturals and even synthetics also vary a lot in price and quality.

and this is only on the ingredient side of things. there are other aspects of running a small business that necessitate pushing the profit margins higher

I don't know shit about fragrances but maybe someone can give me some suggestions?

I'd like something that reminds me of the atmosphere Hayao Miyazaki's movies gave me when I was little. Maybe something spicy/oriental, a bit mystical. Think of nature, asian forests and mountains. Alternatively asian cities.

Don't know if this makes any sense to anyone else but me.

I've been playing with the idea of getting a good fragrance or two but now actually got inspired to finally get one after scrolling through END and seeing the "19-69 Chinese Tobacco" scent up there. Not really sure I wanna blind buy 180€ 100ml bottle tho.

Sacred Wood By Kilian.
It's pricey, but you can order sample/find it somewhere to test on your skin before a full-size bottle. It's truly magical, smells like the best milk you can find with soft woody notes and a bit of spice.
Also, it's possible to buy a refill for half of the price with a small atomizer.

There are plenty of Asian inspired frags, you may order entire "Asian Tales" samples for 15 euros from Kilian website iirc.
You can try Kyoto and Hinoki by cdg, but they have shit performance.

I see "mature" described with AdP a lot. I'm only 23 but my Dad swore by Italian barbershops growing up. He liked Armani so I think he must've had an Armani frag (but I associate him with old spice-like smell anyway).

Anyway, less rambling: I'm attracted to AdP mostly because they're described as natural and I was looking at citrus-florals. I know the Blu stuff is more "youthful" so I'll look into it.

I love vetiver but almost every vetiver fragrance I have tried (Guerlain Leau Boisee, TdH edt edp & etf, Phaedon Black Vetiver, Anat Fritz Tzora, etc) seem to dry down to this medicinal, almost camphorous scent on my skin that i find really unpleasant. The exception to this is Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, which is one of my favorites, and never becomes sharp or synthetic like others.

Can anybody this of why this would be? Just molecules and body chemistry?

Oddly enough, fragrances like Monocle Hinoki, Tam Dao, and Wonderwood that actually have a turpentine/camphor-like note, I really enjoy.

Im curious to try Molecule 03 or a pure Vetiver oil.

'After crossing the Alps, Napoleon credited his great feat to the inspiration provided by twelve sprays of the latest masterpiece (depicted above by Jacques-Louis David) recently received from his personal perfumer, James Henry Creed, Creed Second Generation. Without it he would have simply not had the boldness or ambition in him to dare such an ambitious feat of human endurance not attempted since the days of Hannibal. He later wrote in personal papers that he blamed his defeat at Waterloo on the lateness of a shipment which, bogged down in poor roads caused by the heavy rains the previous night, failed to arrive in time for the day of battle. Sadly though we cannot know what else he wrote of his favourite perfume as these papers along with all other records were lost in the Great Creed Archive Fire of 1985.'

Perhaps dumb question, but with large fragrance connections like this-
Do fragrances 'go off'?

I'm assuming you store in a wardrobe or something to keep it cool and dry, but there's no way you can go through 50 bottles in a few years (unless you're constantly flipping and buying new ones, which is a possibility).

Otherwise, if you've had a bottle open for an extended period of time, have you noticed a change in scent as it ages compared to when you bought it?

Smells great and definitely gets a lot of compliments from hot girls. If you know regular Invictus picture a mentholated/herbal version of that one with a more transparent sweetness than the opaque syrupy sweetness from the original. Also the drydown is way more concentrated ambroxan than in Sauvage I think (which has vetiver, oakmoss, coumarin, lavender, all the fougere notes). Do you seriously think somebody who is not in the fragrance world knows how Aventus smells? Its a 260$/100mL fragrance, I am really sure that you interview 10000 random persons on the street and no one wears it, they might not even know what it is

>I'm wearing which is a cheap clone of an expensive fragrance called Y.
If you feel like you need to lie to make an impression on someone go ahead. Noone will know what Aventus smells like anyways.

>IF I get daily compliments why get the real thing?
You are phrasing your question wrong.
>If I'm looking for compliments from normalfags is there a point in spending 250$ when 40$ will get me just as far?
No there isn't. If you want compliments get what ever is in Jeremys videos. If you want to smell like Aventus get Aventus. Anyone who says cdnim is indistinguisable from Aventus is wrong and inexperienced.

Brehs I know FUCK ALL about fragrances and want to get a new one. I asked a girl what kind of fragrance she likes and she said "you know that smell that you think of when you think 'fragrance'? Anything other than that". So I'm guessing she means something obscure or non-mainstream. Can someone point in the direction of where to look for something like that and, also, it can't be too expensive. I'm not willing to spent shitloads on a fragrance, I just want to find something nice that suits me so I don't have to worry about it any more. Should I just go into a shop and try a bunch until I find one I like? And what's the minimum I should spend for something high-quality?
Thanks

Yeah do this, narrow the ones you like down to ~3 then ask samples of those 3 they will give them for free. Then you can come here and ask for something similar/better than those 3 you like and also ask that girl if you really want her opinion.

lol no. girl you were asking is most likely a basic thot. it's more than likely that by fragrance smell she means some old fashioned 80's fougere that reminds her of her dad and their dysfunctional relationship.
what do, what do?
what any man would do: grab a bottle of old fashioned 80's fougere (worth pour homme will do for 10 bucks or so) and fuck her brains out. alas, you're not a man, not yet: grab then a bottle of sauvage and you may get some pussy. or maybe not.

nice try Mustafa. sadly enough the batshit insane notion that going full arab (or just part arab, for that matter) may get you somewhere, anywhere in life only works in the desert shithole where people wearing arab "fragrances" belong to.

Honestly, I would just start exploring some niche houses til you find something you like. Most designer fragrances are going to have the same, mass appealing, "cologne" vibe, whereas a lot of niche houses are just exploring scent. When it comes to fragrances that dont scream "IM WEARING COLOGNE" I think diptyque - maybe start there.
