I hate shorts. They're fine to wear at home when its hot but even then, they can get uncomfortable. Shorts are so fucking uncomfortable to wear out. They aren't durable, your legs are exposed, you can't have anything comfortably in your pocket.

I completely agree, but I'm going to be spending a lot of time outdoors in the 100 degree, extremely humid, sun directly overhead, near the equator Florida heat this summer. I can't just wear jeans. This is about functionality over style, I'm just trying to minimize the ugliness as much as possible so I don't look too ridiculous.

So far, it looks like solid-colored chino shorts in black, navy, or beige looks like the best bet. I'm also thinking patterned cotton shorts like pic related could work, but as I said I have no prior experience with shorts, so it could go very wrong. The chino shorts are safe but basic, while the cotton shorts are different but risky.
