I actually do this

I don't see the point of spending a premium on basics which are supposed to be super high quality when I can get almost the same thing at Uniqlo at 10% the price. A lot of designer is tacky shit that I wouldn't wear in public anyway(being a walking advertisement isn't my thing, even if it's for expensive brands). I think it helps that I live in a tropical climate so there's no need for expensive outerwear.

there isnt much to say, theyre all fast fashion. they often crib seasonal trends and create diluted copies of popular designer items. quality is meh. the durability isnt horrendous like some people allege (ive had jeans and t-shirts from H&M that last years) and high end stuff tends to be more delicate anyway, so ive never really understood this complaint even where its legitimate.

i think where the cheap quality tends to show most is in footwear and fabric. youll come across garments that seem like they should be made of a more rare or expensive fabric like merino wool or silk, but its often a wool-poly blend

if you buy basics like our bois in the thread are suggesting youll do fine.

>Uniqlo
Literally the most vanilla/plain/basic clothes you can buy. They are absolutely worth the price and are of pretty good quality. The best example I can give is; going full uniqlo will make you look like a background character in any anime.

>H&M
A good alternative for those who dont have a Uniqlo in their area or just cant be bothered to order online. Some of their stuff is shit but at the same time, its hit or miss with just about any single piece you buy. I bought 5 white tees from there when I didnt have a Uniqlo near me and out of the 5, one of them just absolutely came apart in the wash. The other 4 still hold up. They follow fashion trends pretty closely but you'll still want to shop elsewhere for the more important pieces (Hoodies, Shoes, Jeans)

With all their controversy and failing business, you can get some steals on their clothes if you keep an eye on sales and install Honey. Their higher end line is a money trap for the most part but again, some things are pretty decent.

>Zara
Absolute money trap. They are overpriced and prey on faggots who follow those dumb male fashion Instagram pages (pic related). They imitate trends 100% and have no shame in doing so. If you want something cheap, go to H&M or Uniqlo. If you want something high-end or just a nice garment, save up your money and buy designer.

Not an exprest on the topic, just from my understanding of things.

H&M and Zara are bad. H&M is okay if you are 14-17 yrs old i guess. Zara is super random, but mostly bad.

Also, i think in our mind subconsciously what is "basic bitch" is shifted. At first you imagine something boring, no style, just plain cloth.

But if you really think about it - who is more basic bitch, kid who wears H&M, like 9 out of 10 kinds do, or person who dress well and sharp in Uniqlo stuff?

And i disagree that they stuff is boring. Right now, when there is U coolection avaliable, you can look pretty stylish. The U shit is lit.

I never had any expensive designer pieces, but i think i got a gist of it, when i got some U stuff. I actually can see the thoughts behind the collection, why this is came up. Materials are nice. Pieces are nice. Trends behind them are nice. Some one literally thought out all the stuff behind this cloth. They all work well with each other. I red online pople discussing Lemaire influence on this colelction. This is probably was the first time when i actually interested in the designer behind cloth. This is kinda interesting feeling when you get a sense of it (or so do i think).

And if you compare typicall H&M to U, the H&M is 100x basic bitch here.

SS 2018 U collection have a vertical stripes design shirt. It's alright. I saw similar one in H&M on sale, also verical stripes, but different garment. And after seeing U shirt, i would only use H&M one to wipe my ass. It felt like cheap knock off. "Cheap" fabric, "cheap" texture, "cheap" feel. I never was so picky in just pure fabric/fell of the item, but i got this feeling strongly when seeing those 2.

I'm pretty sure that with basic ankle lenght pants, basic tucked tshirt, and any longcoat from SS 2018 U collection you gona desimate ANYTHING that can come out of Zara and H&M.

i shop at Uniqlo almost as exclusively as well but it mostly stems from my budget being rather low. That said, i think Uniqlo is solid for getting basic items, although I have gotten some cool pieces. That being said, if I was given a million dollars to spend on clothes a year, i dont think I would be hitting up Uniqlo as often as I do but I am not upset that I go to Uniqlo often.

I havent had good experiences with H&M or other "fashionable" budget shops so I am weary of buying cheap items outside of Uniqlo. Does anybody know of any stores like Uniqlo as in they are good for people with a relatively low budget?

you mean like heattech (read: polyester)? or blocktech (ie: polyester)? its just good marketing. just add "tech" at the end of a word and people will think your material is some super-sophisticated patented fabric.

they offer merino wool and supima cotton, but this isnt very unusual compared to most fast fashion and mall brands. they will usually offer a few knits in 100% wool. supima cotton? land's end, eddie bauer, j crew, you name it nearly any brand at your local mall will have that too.

why do people get so defensive about uniqlo? is it because they are attached to it like it is a secret club or special? posters like >>13287622 seem to think so. ive gone through racks of suits, sweaters, jeans, and so on at uniqlo and i really didnt find it exceptional compared to other fast fashion. im even willing to bet cash that Uniqlo and H&M contract with similar, if not the same manufacturers.

the only thing i like about uniqlo compared to other fast fashion is their capsule collections. lemaire, undercover, tim hamilton, uniqlo has demonstrated far better taste in design and editing than other brands which chase seasonal trends. they have their pop collections every once in awhile (didnt they do a DBZ?) but its usually just graphic tees.

Not the person you answered to, but are you sure you went throught racks of Uniqlo cloth?

You did't said exactly that Uniqlo and H&M cloth are the same, you used word manufacturer (maybe). But H&M garments is GARBAGE compared to Uniqlos. Do you know that "Dry" line Uniqlo have? Like material is really.. ehhh. Dry. I don't know how to explain it. It have something to do with fabric, but i'm not knowledgeable enought in the topic to understand why it feel this way.

ALL of the H&M men's clothes apart from obvious nylon pieces have same "Dry" feel to them. I assume this is a cheaper fabric, and this is why they use it so much.

I actually really want to know how this whole material thing works.

Overall Uniqlo have nice selection of fabrics, while H&M are same shit. And it feels cheap too.

I agree with you about special collections. Much better taste. They specials have feel of "high" fashion to them. While everyones else is trench tier fashion.

Pop collections are tees. They have term "UT" for them.

yep, im sure. its hard to be in the wrong place when "WELCOME TO UNIQLO" followed by some kind of FAQ is blaring every 15 minutes over intercom.

i find uniqlo often barely distinguishable in terms of durability and fabric choice compared to other fast fashion. people are claiming a difference of night and day, uniqlo a 10 while other fast fashion a 5 or 2. i would be less into this issue if people rated uniqlo 6 and other fast fashion 5, but theres a hivemind that seems to believe uniqlo is god's gift.

here's what i was able to find as manufacturers or processors contracting with both Uniqlo and H&M. where they didnt share the same supplier, often the address at many facilities was literally down the street from another garment shop, if not in the same district of the same province. there are also ambiguous spelling differences in chinese that make it likely there are more suppliers than named here that contract with both companies:

First of all you have never worn those fabrics, otherwise you would not say this kind of bullshit

Secondly, and most importantly, what the fuck do you think most tech fabrics are made of ? Fucking cotton ?

>they offer merino wool and supima cotton, but this isnt very unusual compared to most fast fashion and mall brands
As a matter of fact, yes it is unusual for their price range to offer those fabrics as a standard, and you would know it if you had any idea what kind of tier Uniqlo fits into. Just so you can realise how ridiculous your comparison was, a J crew cotton sweater costs roughly twice as much as a 100% merino wool Uniqlo sweater.

Didn't say it was their fault at all. That doesn't change what I said. Anyone who seriously wears Uniqlo and still thinks they're effay or has any style whatsoever is a mong though. You can look acceptable and inoffensive but nothing more. It's best to get out of the habit of thinking you can turn something cheap and lame into something good just by wearing it a certain way or matching it with something good.

i've been taught not to buy any poly-material, but 11% isn't bad, is it?

The EZY jeans are my favourite trousers, but it makes me wish their chinos had a similar fit. Slim fit still leaves a bit more around the ankle than I'd like.

If you're 25 and above shopping at zara or h&m is just cringey. They're clearly marketed for young people. Both companies are clearly very fashion conscious and try to keep up with the current trend, like dad shoes or oversized hoodies with prints a few seasons ago.
OTOH, uniqlo is just a clothing company that makes clothes for everyone. My mom buys her pants there, she also buys clothes for my niece there. So yeah uniqlo is the definition of basic, but it's not bad. At least the company doesn't blatantly copy designer pieces like zara and h&m.

are the EZYs pretty durable feeling, like denim, or do they just feel like shit sweatpants?

It does feel more comfortable than jeans, but I'd still call it durable. The main appeal to me is the fit (slim fit but less ankle baggage), the feel and the flexibility

You're right about the manufacturers, but especially in China they are flexible enough to produce at different quality levels, depending on what the client wants and how much they pay. It is entirely possible that Uniqlo orders better quality and pays more. From my experience there is a palpale difference between different Uniqlo variants, i.e. the Dry tees that were mentioned.
Overrated? No doubt, people on the internet exagerrate everything.
