Hey M65 guy,

Reccomend the following:
Shorten sleeves to fall at your wrist at the absolute lowest.

If you want velcro go velcro BUT it wears out and gets full of dirt/hair easily, so reccomend keeping buttons.

If you want to go the extra mile, have the lady put darts in the back to take up the slack but don't let her ruin the cinchable waist by stitching the darts through it.

IMO $10 is EXTREMELY good price for the sleeve alteration so go all the way with this tailor if she's good and get the jacket restructured for your body. You will not regret.

Good to know, I wanted to dye mine as well (I presume yours are the same Swiss model that I own) but I guess I'll have to replace the string first. Or get some older ones with cotton tie strings.

Concerning your fit, I'll try to go into detail because you have potential and I want you to do better: The boots are very nice, no complaints there. Your puttees on the other hand are very sloppily wrapped and the off-colour tie string ruins them. The trousers are fine, if the puttees were wrapped more neatly and all black you would be set up for a very nice all-black fit. So far so good.
The belt I'll go into later.
The top half is also pretty good. Greyish jumper, greenish jacket, washed out colours, not particularly bright nor dark, rounded off with a red hat for contrast. Not too bad. The strong black colour of the gloves clashes with the other colours - it's too strong.
The belt in this case is interesting because it marks the border between two halves that should under no circumstances be combined ever again, itself belonging to the lower half: Think about how good it would look if you wore just a tucked in black turtleneck with those same trousers, puttees (successfully died) and boots - like a playful Mosley, the buckle getting the attention it deserves as the centerpiece of an elegant all black outfit.
Or think about how well the top half of your outfit would work with some coarsely textured brown wool trousers, think Swedish WW2 trousers, onion-dyed, and brown (or green) boots, perhaps even greyish-white sneakers. Less elegant, more of a rugged aesthetic, still very pretty.

As is, you look absolutely ridiculous because you combine two aesthetics that absolutely do not go together, have them meet exactly at the midpoint of your body, neatly separated into upper and lower half and even those halves are sloppily implemented (badly tied puttees, not completely dyed, unnecessary gloves).
Each half sets up expectations that the other contradicts.

The jacket and shirt look great.

That hat + gloves is full hobocore. If you don't want to look homeless wearing surplus, which already has socioeconomic implications in much of the Western world, don't do that.

Those ankle wrap things look terrible. I doubt there's even a way to incorporate them without looking larpy since they are so archaic.

Your pants also look silly like they're too big for you.

Your belt looks like you stole it off your grandma's dress.

Finally, and perhaps worst of all, your boots look clown-shoe huge compared to your frail childlike figure.

The whole mess combines to make you look like a homeless clown-child with a pretty nice jacket and shirt. Seriously, the jacket and shirt are great, don't change that part. Also is that a Swiss gas mask? It looks cool.

interesting that you should mention them! I think they look much better without the wraps as I've been wearing them in most fitpics and nobody has mentioned them before.

What I did differently this time was cinch the belt megatight to see if it would show off the waist and put the wraps on to try and slim the calves but it backfired badly.

>belt
Think it is a lost cause or could it work with a different fit? It's very 60s

>boots
this is a big problem for me because I'm thin and 5'9 but have slim and long size 10 feetskis.
I try and pick narrow boots with a pointed or slim toebox to avoid getting the bulbey kid-in-dads-boots look but I still suffer from it sometimes.

Remember especially how certain certain textures and saturations clash. You have this problem in other photos, it's just very apparent today because it's so neatly separated into two halves. The BW belt would be even better if it were brown, the buckle is a lot better though because it's warmer in colour. Remember how badly the black / silver colour scheme of your other belt clashed.
Some homework: Read up on the golden ratio, on textile textures and on basic colour theory again, complementary contrasts and such. You're especially troubled by saturation, I think.

>>13280249
Sure, just ignore the guy who keeps saying "just stick with one military piece per fit", he's not from around here. There are of course many ways you could style these sorts of clothes, and there anren't enough women that do. You could go for a vintage pin-up look with the more offficial dress uniforms that are floating around, the classic industrial/hippie alternative cutie look with green parka / field shirt and laced black boots, but my favourite and the one I see most seldom is the utilitarian Kim Possible look with cargo trousers and a simple functional turtleneck shirt. You'll have to be pretty fit for that though. You could also go for the traditional Scandi comfycore look with thick wool sweaters and wool pants, I always thought the Norwegian army sweater would look good on a woman. Varusteleka has a "lot" of women's surplus but you'd probably best try to integrate males' clothes as well, since there is just more, better quality stuff. Just be creative with the resources you have, that's essentially what these threads are about.

>>13280333
Those boots are and slick and narrow and small as fuck. Have you seen other military issue boots? The puttees would be fine if there were dyed and wrapped correctly, no need to break a sweat over looking anachronistic as long as it's in line with aesthetic laws, and the belt problem is the way it is framed, not the belt itself.

Very cool gas mask. My collection is mostly modern to late cold war, but I'm trying to branch into some of the older designs.

I think that belt would be much better suited to a more fantastical style like gothic industrial. It just looks silly with the gritty surplus aesthetic.

I had one of these and I have something very important to tell you from my experiences:

They do not make the best choice if you want something functional.

The interior has a lot of pockets specifically for medical gear. Other than the ones that fit pens, these are not a lot of use because they are designed to fit specific bottles and have no closure, so your shit will fall out and mix at the bottom of your bag.

Secondly - these are semi hardshell bags to protect the aforementioned medical gear. They have a pressboard inserted between a layer of cotton burlap and shirting materiel. The board warps slightly when wet, and if it is stricken hard enough can break.

lastly and most importantly, messenger bags tend to ride against your body. soft messenger bags merely conform as to your body and ride comfortable.
Since these have hard shells, they slide back and forth.

The achilles heel of these bags is that the bag rides back and forth against your ass and the hard shell means it wears down the fabric on the reverse side of your bag. After about 1Yr of regular use you will have an unpatchable hole due to the confluence of materiel and construction choices.
I would say if you want a half hardshell bag to use some of the time and have other bags to swap out 75% of the time, cop the bag. Otherwise - dont.

They could be a bit higher yes, but luckily since its black you dont really notice it that much
I'd suggest using a thicker material for your pants though

Try using a black canvas or black cargo pant and see how it works, also try out some different all black shoes like some all black ski hi's, or converse, or SFB style field boots or something just to see if it would work
Also I think for winter/cold spring you could try wearing an OD shemagh or scarf or something too

I wish Nicholas K still made this jacket..

A new one! Glad to see you out of the nukem fit

I like that you are your own mascot, that's good branding.

About the mask & watch - Are you presently in the military? Your ring looks like it may be a unit ring too.

I think you're body affords you a lot of leeway with that you wear - you pull off the untucked tee well.

I'd like to see you try something with your feet. It's hard to tell if you're wearing boots or the low-cut docs, but try something interesting with your footwear or the break on your trousers.

Thanks for fitposting - the milspo thread needs more

Inspo poster here, I'm not going to argue with anyone because sure, on some level youre all right.

Here's my thinking:
People commonly say things like 'stick to one piece per fit' or 'holy shit you guys looks like cosplayers'.

I think this is partially because those people haven't seen what full kit actually looks like and partially because some of us never look beyond military photographs and real surplus.

If we look at fits where people wore real surplus OR something clearly inspired by a real item of surplus we might learn something. If we never go outside the circle we're also not going to see new content, and this is the reason threads get slow.

We're mostly knowledgeable people who can name a lot of surp by model when we see it, right?
I should be able to trust you to look through the above, see the real items & recognize them and then see the items that are rip-offs or LOOK like a surp item and think ' Oh, that's a rip-off of a model 1987 blahblabah' and then go home to your REAL '87 blahblah and make a fit of it.

Ah, I think you're giving the show credentials it doesn;t deserve. Allegedly some fucking does go on in the place they put you up in (a Premier Inn) since all the bodies, that's the people in the boxes, are in the same place and it;s amazing how quickly you become friends with a group of people if you're all naked. But in our case we were, you know, all quite right on people. An orgy would have been interesting I suppose but to no real end.

If someone becomes erect they actually have to stop filming because of content laws. Soft is fine but otherwise it classes it as hardcore porn. There's not actually anything sexy about the filming process, it;s all very dry TV production stuff. A lot of standing about. They do give you bathrobes but you stop bothering with those quite quickly since it;s warm enough in the studio.

Well I came up with "There's beauty in the macabre" (mostly because of the tattoos) but I had to change it to something ten times more trite. I don;t even remember. use RIT liquid dye.

RIT has two types - standard dye which comes in black and 'RIT Dyemore' which is for combination fabrics (cottonpoly blends)

I use 1 jug of RIT standard black dye w/ 1/4 bottle of RIT Dyemore to tackle both the cotton and poly aspects of the garments.

Typically for a pair of pants I will do 1.5 bottles Standard RIT blakc Liquid dye, 1/2 bottle of RIT dyemore and have good-amazing results.

Cotton takes dye reasonable well but needs to be very worn and washed out/faded before dying.

Wool on the other hand.... I have never gotten any of my cottons as black as my woolens. Pic relevant.

The soles are quite substantial, and there is enough room you could wear some pretty thick neoprene insoles if you want more cushion for concrete.
