My girl is Chinese, she is into designer stuff, but mostly she just gets designer jackets, bags and shoes. She isn’t into anything hypebeast of that nature so it is pretty subtle except some of her bags or shoes are clearly Chanel.

She goes to a top ranked med school, she’s not an international student and her family isn’t super wealthy corrupt people. Her parents are well off now but she wasn’t always.

The other students dress in pajamas and smell bad according to her. She feels way out of place because she is the only one who has relatively nice clothes. So she dresses down to try and not stick out as much although she still wears some nice stuff to keep her sanity.

Part of the Chinese wearing designer items goes back to the whole “face” thing. She likes nice stuff but gets really tired of being around other Chinese who care to much about that stuff, she just wants to look nice and elegant.

She is quite traditional / conservative but is surrounded by SJW in her classes who go on about race “inequities”. It seems a lot of Asians who grew up in the US tend to act similar to urban whites. In China they have no problem talking about different races without guilt.

Just an example from my life, hopefully on topic.
